Come stay at your home away from home in Vail, Colorado!
Vail Business License #2629
Just off of 'Born Free', the ski run leading to the gondola. The house is 120 yards from the ski run and overlooks the magnificent Gore Range Mountains. Named 'Chalet du Soleil', this charming four bedroom home is within easy walking distance of fine restaurants and shops. The house is on a large lot. Sledding and playing in the snow can be enjoyed by those with excess energy after skiing. We provide the sleds. The house is equipped with all the amenities you are accustomed to in your own home.
The house comfortably accommodates up to ten people. The master suite features a queen-size bed plus whirlpool tub for two (jacuzzi type) and separate shower room. The other main floor bedroom includes a queen-size bed, bath/shower, and an expansive bay window. The third bedroom on the upper floor has a queen-size bed, two twin-size beds, plenty of closet space, and a large vanity sink area.
The fourth bedroom is, in fact, an adjoining studio-apartment with king-size bed, queen-size hide-a-bed, compact kitchen, full bath, and large walk-in closet. All beds are made up in the Swiss-style with comforters, extra pillows, and ironed sheets. Smoking is not permitted.
The owners, Fred and Thea, live in the house next door and will be happy to make your stay a pleasant one! Their daughter, Heather Kehoe, lives in Eagle and manages the property.
This is a family-run business. Thea Rumford and daughter, Heather Kehoe, manage this beautiful mountain home. The photo is of Heather and Thea on the deck of the Chalet in the summertime.
Fred and Thea Rumford have owned this charming mountain home since 1966 when it was built as a weekend getaway for their family. Skiing is a large part of their lives. They have raised their children to grow up with a tremendous appreciation for the alpine lifestyle. They take great joy in now seeing their grandchildren follow in the ski tracks of their parents.
Thea says, 'The character of Chalet du Soleil is incomparable and is sure to please.'
The Rumfords also take pride in upgrading and maintaining their beautiful home each year.
Heather Kehoe purchased this house in 1966
It's the little things that the owners/manager do to make this place special.
Prime Lionshead location. Specular views of the Gore Range Mountains. Very family friendly accommodations.
Chalet du Soleil was the ideal house for our family of 9 (6 adults and 3 children). The grandkids loved their room upstairs and the 3 couples had lovely, comfortable bedrooms. The house had everything we could have possibly wanted or needed. The living area had plenty of room for all of us to gather to play games and watch the Olympics each evening. The house itself was great, and the setting made it even better. It gave us the best of two worlds. The trees and beautiful creek gave us the feeling of peace and privacy, and we were just a short walking distance from hiking, biking, the gondola, shops and restaurants in Lionshead and Vail Village. We all had a wonderful time and hope to return next summer.
I've stayed at Chalet du Soleil a lot over the years and it's the best place, by far, to stay in Vail. We came this summer with a group of eight that included my kids and the place was great. Heather, the property manger, met us at the door, made sure that we were comfy, helped get my parents settled in, helped my in-laws find a great room and showed my kids around. Then she recommended a great pizzeria just down the hill (in winter you ski down, in summer you walk to the base) for dinner. Heather, who has spent all her life in Colorado, knows Vail better than just about anyone on the planet and can make amazing recommendations for things to do at night (if you're not too tuckered out from the altitude, skiing, hiking, biking or whatever).
The house itself is just great, it has photos up from the 1970s of what Vail used to look like, it has more than enough pots and pans to cook for 10 people, there are plenty of sheets, towels, soaps, and little amenities that make staying such a pleasure.
If you are lucky enough to manage to get a booking in the winter, you won't be disappointed and if you need an amazing place to stay in the summer (minus pets) to get your Colorado on, then you have to come and stay here. I can't recommend either the house or Heather highly enough. You rock Girl!
Our group had a great stay! The location was fantastic and the house included all amenities we needed. We were especially impressed with the fireplace as the focal point of the living room. Heather was great from start to finish and very responsive via email and cell phone. I would definitely recommend this property to others.
The house was great and the location was amazing. We walked into Lionshead every morning and evening. Heather was great to work with. She has gone beyond our expectations by offering to mail an item we left behind. Much appreciated! I would recommend this house to anyone. CA
We loved staying at Chalet du Soleil. It accommodated 9 of us comfortably with plenty of room. Unfortunately it is not "ski-in" any more, you do need to carry skis up the hill to the bottom of Born Free ski run home. We ended up renting a car as the in town free bus wouldn't stop at our road. The owners were very helpful and even bought a new oven when it broke down. We actually ate in every night as the kitchen is well equipped. Would recommend this private house.
I stayed at the Chateau with a group of 4 other guys the first week of February, 2016. The home is clean and very well appointed with everything you will need during your stay. It was exactly as advertised. The location is particularly nice if you don't have transportation, since you can walk down the street and be on the ski run to the Eagle Bahn Gondola in 5 minutes. You can also walk to Lionshead Village in about 10 minutes. The owners are very nice, responsive, and easy to work with. They even provided us with some initial provisions since we were arriving late and would not be able to go to the market upon arrival. Very nice touch! One thing to note that was not clear to us prior to renting was that the upstairs bedroom does not have a bathroom, so those staying in that room have to descend a flight of stairs to use the facilities. It was a bit of a pain for those staying up there. But overall, I would recommend this place for a group our size. Might be a little cramped with more than 6 adults.
Across Gore Creek from the gondola.
