Convenient for Metro, shops
NO TV! One of the most important items needed, and there is no TV service. There is a screen, but the owner does not pay for TV service. I have never encountered this before. Big letdown.
No shower curtains so the floor gets very wet every time you shower, and it is cold, like showering outside. Much danger of a slip and fall on the wet floor. No plug for the bath, so you can't take a bath. I stayed for 13 days and was supplied with two towels and no bathmat. I had to go out and buy my own towels! How hard is it to supply towels? There are no toiletries at all, which is OK as it's not a hotel, but some places do supply them. Not much shelving in the bathroom. There is a washing machine.
When I arrived the keys were not in the place that I was told they were. The owner had sent a last minute email, which, being on a plane, I do not have access to, and am not expecting last minute changes. Had to bother a neighbour to call the owner. Address was only supplied a few days before I arrived.
37 stairs and no lift. Shops on bottom floor. No instructions left on how to operate the items in the house, washing machine, stove, and no one there to meet me, not welcoming at all. Internet router was unplugged so I had to call the owner once more to find out how to get internet.
Nowhere to hang clothes and no hangars put out. There are a few drawers in the bedroom. Not all the furniture you see is available for use. Bed comfy. No change of linen left, had to wash my own linen. I found an iron. No ironing board. The apt is not really fit for purpose.
Apt is spacious, older apt. Balcony is good size but plants haven't been looked after for a long time, floor not swept, and there is old furniture outside, not attractive at all. It could look wonderful with a bit of imagination.
The kitchen is very well supplied. There's a wok and a cast iron pan but no frying pan to fry an egg. There is no plug in the kitchen sink, so very difficult to do the washing up. Lots of dishtowels, no hand towel and only one cloth to wash dishes.
The area is very working class and ethnic. 65 shops in the village atmosphere where all the housing is. 2 big supermarkets. All the stores you need. Metro right across the road. Takes 25 mins to get to Amsterdam Centraal stn. Market every Wed, they set up at 5 am, outside bedroom window.
Overall, manageable, but lots of things not there for a comfortable stay.
