Domus Colosseo is a big and luxury penthouse (130 m2 plus 130 m2 of terraces) arranged on three floors with a breathtaking 360° view over ancient Rome. It is ideal for families and large groups looking for a very central apartment.
At only two-minutes walk from the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, it is perfect for visiting ancient Rome while comfortably settled in a newly renovated apartment equipped with full comforts (Jacuzzi hot tub, Internet wi-fi, air conditioning, satellite Sky TV, washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine, microwave, elevator, iron, city guides etc.).
---360° view over Rome---
Enjoy a breathtaking view all over the centre of Rome from its roof garden, terraces and windows: stunning views are the main trait of this penthouse and they are so spectacular, particularly on the 8th floor roof garden, that in May 2008 they were filmed by National Geographic for a programme about Rome.
IMPORTANT: at the moment a portion of the view in front of the apartment is disturbed by works in progress for the construction of the Line-C subway, that can produce noise during working hours (one can see the works looking down on one side of the building, not from the terraces towards the panorama - skyline). Construction started in January 2014 and up to now nobody reported any problem to us because of the works.
---Ideal for a large group or a family---
The apartment is ideal for a large group or a family, as the space of the entire property (260 m2) allows full ease of living for 8 people (6 adults plus 2 children under 10 years on request). There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 rooftop garden and 2 terraces , 1 outdoor shower, 1 living room, 1 dining room and 1 kitchen.
The apartment is located on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors of an eight-floor building, and includes an elevator. Situated in the Celio district of Rome (one of the famous Seven Hills), the area is full of green spaces; however, it also offers lively restaurants, pubs, and supermarkets. The building is encircled by three public parks.
---How to reach the apartment---
Located in the heart of ancient Rome, the apartment is perfect for those who want to walk in the centre or reach any other destination by public transports. The access is extremely easy both via public transportation and private car.
• Fly to Rome: convenient though luxurious airport transfers both from Ciampino and Fiumicino are available. It is more comfortable (the driver finds you, he knows where you have to go and you do not have to queue in order to find a taxi) and sometimes even cheaper than taxis.
• Drive to Rome: a large paying garage is only 50 meters away.
• Come to Rome by Train: Termini (central railway station) is just two subway stops away.
• Underground stops (“Colosseo” line B and “Vittorio Emanuele” line A) and bus stops are only 2-10 minutes walk.
--- Arrival and departure---
Arrival is generally since 3 pm and departure within 10 am. Early departures (before 8 am) can be accepted only if agreed in advance.
We are a family of four people, my husband and I, and our two daughters (27, 31 years old). Born in Rome, we have always lived in this beautiful city. Although we are true Romans, we love to travel and meet people of different nationalities. And this rental job provides us with the fantastic opportunity of working together as a family and meeting foreigners who want to discover Rome.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 1952
We have been living in this district for 30 years and we love it! It's one of the 7 historical hills of Rome, just by the Colosseum and we love to introduce our guests to this ancient jewels we love so much.
- living in the historical centre of Rome and having the most important tourist attractions at 2 minutes walk
- enjoying stunning views everywhere in the penthouse and a unique 360° view on ancient Rome from the 8th floor Roof Garden, the highest private point of Celio district
- waking up in the 6th floor big double bedroom or in the 7th floor bedroom and seeing the Colosseum from the window
- having a shower oudoor (in the 7th floor outdoor shower) while overlooking the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and then lying in the sun on the sunbeds in the 8th floor Roof Garden
- eating together in the big dining room or in the 6th floor terrace, which is a wonderful dining room in the open air overlooking the sunset, also for celebrating anniversaries (restaurants with terrace in Rome are very expensive: from € 80/140 for each person)
- bringing your kids to play in Villa Celimontana
- watching the sunset from one of the terraces, while drinking a Prosecco wine bought in the supermarket near the apartment (only 20 meters far away!)
All of my family loved the apartment. It was clean and all amenities were sufficient. The location was perfect, we couldn't have asked for anything more. The advertisement for the property reflected the apartment and we all said we would definitely come again probably in the spring to make the most of the terrace views. We very much enjoyed our stay. Thank you for renting us this wonderful apartment.
We celebrated our 30th anniversary here over the Thanksgiving Holiday with our son and his wife who were celebrating their first anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. The apartment is located in a charming, authentic neighborhood behind the Colosseum, with restaurants and markets within steps outside the door. We sampled several eateries using the handy guide left by the hosts. There is a market just two doors down that had everything we needed for snacks and light meals which proved very convenient.
The furnishings inside were comfortable and clean. The big bathroom was very modern, complete with large shower and plenty of hot water and the second bathroom was certainly a bonus. The bedrooms were also large and the beds had plenty of blankets and pillows and good mattresses. The living room is large and airy and I loved the old map of Rome on the wall. We didn't cook a real meal, but the kitchen seemed to have everything necessary.
The terraces are everything described in the other reviews and more. The view is spectacular and watching the birds flock and make patterns - mesmerizing! And the sunsets are amazing while enjoying wine and cheese with family.
The location is centrally located for walking to sites and the B line metro is a five minute walk from the apartment. The metro system is very easy to use and Termini station is only two metro stops away and we used it for day trips by train to Florence, Naples and Pisa. We even overnighted in Venice for a couple of days. Italy has wonderful train access, and a rail pass is definitely a recommendation.
Rafaella Boffa was the most gracious and helpful owner. I am so glad we met her. The business end of renting was handled professionally and with ease and the security deposit was returned before we left. She arranged all of our airport transfers and was so kind to our son and his wife when they arrived on an early flight. Her knowledge of the area was so interesting and my only regret of our entire two weeks was that I wish we would have spent more time with her.
I highly recommend Domus Colosseo and would love to stay there again when we return to Rome.
8 of us travelled from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and Abu Dhabi to experience the glory of Rome. We wanted a 3-4 bedroom apartment with terraces and views. We wanted to be able to have evening snacks and wine, while enjoying the lovely cityscape. Domus Colosseo was a perfect match for us. It was an easy stroll to the Forum and the City Center. There were innumerable wonderful restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The local grocery in the same block was very convenient. The apartment was well furnished, and our hostess, living close by, was always available for advice and suggestions.
I can heartily recommend this apartment. It is ideally located, and has amazing views. We would love to stay there again.
Our stay in Rome was enhanced by our stay at the Colosseum Big Penthouse. Our host was friendly, helpful, and made sure we we well equipped to get the most out of Rome. The views were amazing. We enjoyed sunsets from the rooftop each evening. The easy access to the metro, grocery store, and amazing neighborhood restaurants let us make the most out of our few days in Rome. The apartment is spacious and had the most comfortable beds. We felt so blessed to be able to stay at this place, it was definitely a privilege to get to know our hosts and share in their pride of this magnificent city. We would love to return someday.
We just returned from our vacation to Italy and the last 4 days we stayed in Rome in this beautiful apartment. We had 6 adults and it was perfect for us. It is so big and airy, wonderful terrace off the first floor where we had breakfast every day and then a breathtaking rooftop terrace complete with lovely outdoor furntiure where we had wine and appetizers in the evening while we looked out at the Coloseo!
The kitchen is great - very well outfitted - we cooked several dinners there and ate at the huge dining room table with full dinnerware and glassware - it has everything you need to cook a full meal.
The grocery stores is a minute away and so are wine shops and lots of gelato shops and delicious restaurants.
The Colloseum and Roman Forum and Palentine Hill are a 2 block walk and are simply amazing. Other sites are easily accessible by bus or taxi.
If you have a larger family or group of adults, you should stay here. The owner is wonderful to work with and is so very helpful. I hope to return very soon!
We stayed for two weeks. The apartment is clean, spacious and air conditioned. Wonderful decks which we enjoyed every morning and evening. Ideal location with good local restaurants all around. The grocery store is 1 minute away. The owners could not have been more helpful and were a delight to meet. We will go back the next time we visit Rome.
This place was perfect for my family of five including three teenagers. We stayed the whole week and not only was there ample space to move around (a rarity in Europe) but it was super clean, and with good air conditioning. On the street were no less than 20 restaurants and pizzerias in the four square block area. All that we tried were pretty good and filled with locals too. We must have walked the whole of central Rome from here and agreed this was the best neighborhood to stay. Lively but not noisy. You can also walk to all the ancient ruins from this location, not just the major ones. Even made it to aqueduct Claudia from here. Giovanni and Rafaella, the owners even helped arrange private transportation from Fumicello. Great english too.
Visit the heart of ancient Rome! The Colosseum and the Imperial Forums are only 2-minutes walk.
