Glorious sunny rooms. Beautiful colors. Newly renovated. Mint condition. Sky lights. Spectacular spa quality designer shower. This is your home away from home right in the center of the hustle and bustle that's Bar Harbor during the summer season. While others circle the town looking for that elusive parking spot, you slip quietly into your own spacious three car accommodation, a few yards from the center of town, across from the Village Green where every night is a summer festival. Don't feel like making breakfast? Delicious blueberry pancakes await right across the courtyard at Cafe This Way where regulars return for scrumptious breakfasts and legendary dinners. Then stroll along the garden, turn right and check out the shops, something for every taste and every budget. Go for a scenic cruise around the island, see a whale, hop aboard a four masted schooner, eat some lobsters, swim in pristine lakes or brave the ocean, hike the trails, bike the carriage roads. Welcome!
I cannot rave too much about the Hideaway. In fact, I was tempted not to review it - I'm worried about a mad dash on the place that makes it hard for me to book it next time!
It is a lovely home in a perfect location. The description is 100% accurate - wonderful light, comfy rooms, beautiful spa shower, huge kitchen, comfy fireplace, great work desk.
I visited the Hideaway late Dec through early Jan to hunker down in a comfy place, go on hikes in the day and walk to town in the afternoons and evenings. This place was perfect. Everything is brand new and spanking clean, and the glorious windows let in wonderful light, but the Hideaway is still nestled in a corner off the main path so you don't feel like your in the middle of town (even though you are!). I could walk to the grocery store, restaurants, the movie theater, even the YMCA is close by. Eagle Lake is 3 miles up the road on which the Hideaway sits.
There's a great TV, cable and many, many DVDs. Flawless internet access.
The owner is next door - very sweet to check on me, but completely respectful of privacy. She's quite the charmer!
I would stay at the Hideaway any time - it is by far one of the top homes I've ever rented. I didn't think anything could make Bar Harbor better, but the Hideaway does. Fantastic! Highly recommended.
Believe me when I say this is the ONLY place to stay in Bar Harbor! We were there for two weeks recently. It was absolutely PERFECT! It has been recently remodeled and is completely updated. It is within walking distance to everything in Bar Harbor. It is isolated from the main traffic and is very peaceful. The owner, Ann, was WONDERFUL beyond belief. Extremely accommodating and so friendly. She had expanded cable installed on the TV so we could watch the college bowl games and championship. She had a beautiful welcome basket waiting for us with wine, crackers, cheese, coffee, fruit and cookies, plus milk and orange juice in the refrigerator. I cannot gush enough about how much we loved this place and the owner! I wish I could rate it more than 5 stars. Really, seriously, trust me - you want to stay here! We certainly will if/when we return to Bar Harbor.
We knew the moment we turned down the ally onto the driveway, that this was the place for us. A thoughtful welcome basket (and note)included wine, cheese, grapes and even goldfish crackers for the 1year old. Laundry soap, bath soap, coffee and linens are provided. The 3 bedrooms were plenty for our 3 generations and although there is no bathtub, the baby did not seem to mind.(there is no hairdryer, too)
We cooked our own lobster(purchased at Parsons)using the lobster pot and had an excellent meal outside. The baby uses a "clip on chair" and it fit perfectly on the picnic table. Cafe this way is across the ally and we also enjoyed their delicious pancakes outside, too. Ann introduced herself one day and reiterated her availability to help with any possible issues(there were none). We walked everywhere except to Acadia, as the baby had a schedule that dictated our day. We highly recommended this hideaway!!
With many great memories of previous camping trips to Blackwoods Campground, I was very eager to have a Bar Harbor vacation with a mattress and closer to town. I was overwhelmed to find the Hideaway on VRBO as I knew this was THE best property location in town. The day we arrived and pulled off the bustling street into the driveway this was reconfirmed. There simply is no better location in town for a rental property.
The house is darling. There is plenty of room (and so much light) in the kitchen. The first floor powder room/laundry are very convenient. The 3 bedrooms are all perfect size for vacationing. The full bath with rainfall showerhead and skylight is an unexpected luxury. Every detail in the home is clean and well cared for. A wonderful and unexpected bonus of a rental was clean bed linens and towels (nice to not have to do that laundry when we returned home). We loved the nice touch of a personal note from the property owner with a beautiful welcome basket (what a generous and thoughtful touch).
I mentioned the joy we felt in pulling into our parking spot and with the convenience of the island explorer we really went days without driving our car. We walked to the market on the days we were cooking at home and found dozens of restaurants, seemingly every place we looked. We quickly figured out how to navigate the Explorer and get to the parts of the park we wanted to explore. The house is removed from the main street and the gardens simply take you away from the hustle and bustle of the town.
We traveled with a party of 5, spanning 3 generations, and everyone equally enjoyed the house and the location (near the fabric store and CJs for ice cream). Ann is a gracious and kind hostess. Our only regret is that we only stayed for one week. We would recommend this home without reservation and would stay again without considering another property. Thank you for everything Ann.
We came back to Bar Harbor and stayed here again because it is just what anyone would want when visiting Bar Harbor.
It is in the middle of everything, we barely used our car at all. It is large, clean and well stocked.
The Island Explorer is steps away. The shops and dining, even the grocery store are all within walking distance. The Shore Path is two blocks away so every morning and every evening we walk it.
Ann is the perfect host, available but unobtrusive. She left a basket of wine, chocolate, coffee etc as a welcoming gift, too!
Will rent from her every time we come but you have to book early or it will be booked up
We just returned from our trip up to Maine and we had a wonderful stay at Ann's Hideaway. This house is in the perfect location. It's right smack in the middle of town but tucked away so it is still nice and quiet. We walked everywhere in town - to the grocery store, to the shore path, to the marina, to the bar island trail... You don't need your car at all in town, it's perfect! The house itself is bright and comfortable and had everything we needed, even beach towels, which we used when we visited sand beach in Acadia. I stayed in the house with my husband, my two young and very energetic boys and my in-laws and there was plenty of room for everyone. Ann was an absolute pleasure to deal with and even left us a welcoming basket of food, which was so nice. We loved Bar Harbor and hope to be back soon. When we come back we will be booking the Hideaway again!
The Village Green Hideaway is located in the center of Bar Harbor, a popular and beautiful vacation spot on Mount Desert Island, Maine, surrounded by oceans, lakes, hiking trails, mountains and Acadia National Park. The Hideaway is within walking distance to shopping, movies, restaurants, entertainment, kayak rentals, sailing, bicycling, arts and crafts, Walk down to the pier and enjoy the harbor activity, take a whale watch trip, a sail on a six masted schooner, a cocktail cruise. Be pampered at one of five local spas. Bar Harbor has something to be discovered and enjoyed by people of all ages. Then retire to the privacy of your Hideaway, across the courtyard from Cafe This Way. Fire up the lobster pot and have your own cookout. Lobsters are plentiful on this island and you can buy them from local lobstermen or stores. Walk up to the corner and sample the wholesome foods and wares from the Alternative Market. Cross over to the Village Green and enjoy a free concert. Happy day
