I am a long time local resident and Main Street realtor who built this home as a personal residence. I have been sharing it with others as a vacation rental for several years now, but only live a few miles away. Knowing the area as I do, I know how hard it is to find that perfect combination of peace and privacy, wonderful views toward Grandfather Mountain and John's River Gorge and an unusual yet comfortable home. I have tried to provide all the amenities I would wish for myself, and truly welcome your feedback regarding your stay at Treehaven! Gail
The Owner purchased this house in 1995
Treehaven is very special to me and to most who stay there. I have many repeat tenants who celebrate special anniversaries, honeymoons and holidays there year after year. The Rocky Knob area is almost completely surrounded by national forest lands, so development is limited yet it is very close to the village of Blowing Rock and all its restaurants and shopping.
Treehaven is on 5 acres of wooded mountain land, with huge trees surrounding it and a window open for the year round view. There is a small stream below the house that you can hear from the deck and walk to if you are up for a strenuous hike back up the mountain. You see no other homes from Treehaven and have complete privacy with only the sounds of nature. Pisgah National Forest is close by, so wildlife abounds and it would be unusual if you did not see deer every day and many birds including flocks of wild turkeys--a nature lover's paradise!
When my hubby and I arrived at Tree Haven we instantly felt welcome, at home and cozy. A cute little "witch butler" greeted us at the door holding a tray of candy, there were baskets of mums on the porch and fresh flowers on the dining room table. As we walked in we were in awe of the beautiful mountain scenery through the tall windows and sliding doors. Then we went upstairs and was greeted with more beautiful views and a lovely master bedroom and bath.
The home is elegant with rustic touches, from the exquisite stairway and fireplace to the special touches and accessories and interesting furniture like the twig half bed.
Everything we needed was there and did I mention the wonderful hot tub and watching the sun go down over Grandfather Mountain and seeing the stars come up as we soaked away all the stresses of life.....
We had fun in the area riding along the Blue Ridge Parkway, visiting Linville Falls, the Moses Cone House and Grandfather Mountain, and The Blowing Rock to name a few. The views all around were breathtaking and we caught the colors on the mountains at peak time. Glorious! We also enjoyed riding out to Valle Cruces to visit the original Mast Store and eating at Over Yonder in an old farmhouse which we highly recommend.
We visited many antique shops, our favorite is right on Hwy. 321 in Blowing Rock. Most of antique shops are toward the Lenoir area. Downtown Blowing Rock has some cute shops and eateries and you are right there. At the end of our busy sightseeing and shopping days, we were happy to have this beautiful, comfortable and cozy home to relax in and unwind.
The ride up to the house is interesting but do not let that deter you. We did just fine and your reward at the end is well worth it. It did look like they were working on the state maintained road while we were there. It is a little hard to see the road at first since there is some construction going on in the area but look for the small gravel road that cuts back uphill across from an open view of the mountains. (There was a street sign there but a little hard to see).
I certainly hope to visit the area again and when we do, we would love to stay at Tree Haven, again. Gail, thank you for sharing your lovely home, our favorite place ever, and for your hospitality!
We absolutely loved this unique house to pieces. Every detail shows top notch taste, quality, as well as convenience. The views were breathtaking, it snowed a lot, which added to the fairytale quality. You seriously don't need to bring anything but your personal belongings as towel, kitchen, etc. are extremely well, stocked. Even some basic spices !!! I loved it so much that we are returning for the entire month of July! 😀 Am SO looking forward to that. bLowimg Rock Realty if GREAT. We had a question, after hours, and they responded within MINUTES! Can't ask for more! So helpful and pleasant!
This is the second time we stay at TreeHaven, the first time the exact same group of people stayed at the end of 2012. We were all very excited to go back, until we noticed that the cabin had stayed exactly the same and the wear and tear was now noticeable. A VERY nasty smell came out of one of the two kitchen sinks, which does not have a garbage disposal, so we had to live with it for 8 days, The shower in the master bathroom trickled water and there was nothing we could do to get more water pressure, even avoiding to use any other water while that shower was being used. The plumbing on the bathroom downstairs and one of the upstairs bathrooms kept backing up, so the plunger (thank goodness there is one in the property) went up and down the stairs a few times during that week. Garbage does not get collected, and there isn't a large container anywhere, where you could dispose of your trash in the property, so you have to haul your own trash to the collection point a nice 20 minute drive away daily as there is no place to put it.
We thought we were disappointed enough at the property, until on top of everything we got an additional $130 charge for a glass table broken (which I am still not sure what table that was), "EXTRA CLEANING" for not having walked out with our last day's garbage, and for refilling the bathtub outside. I very politely replied to the owner to have her reconsider the charge, to which she replied with a long wining email. I really didn't really spent the time to read the reply as it started with "First OFF.............. the cabin sure needs the $130 a lot more than I do.
I come to the area often at least two or three times every year. TREEHAVEN is definitely a property I would avoid staying in. I will gladly discuss the stay and the details if I were contacted, but I cannot put any personal information on here to be contacted.
We were privileged to have the opportunity to stay at Treehaven twice this summer and loved both trips. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate the second time around but that didn't matter. In spite of rain and fog, we had a wonderful time staying in Gail's remarkable home. We love the house, the view, the privacy, that our dog Bella is welcome and the close proximity to lovely little Blowing Rock. I have even become an expert at navigating the challenging mountain roads. We hope to be able to return to Treehaven again and again in the future.
This is our second year in a row to spend a week at this lovely mountain home.
Beautiiful scenery and delightful community. Life up in the trees is wonderful. A great place to read, enjoy a fire, a soak in the hot tub and wind down.
Excellent restaurants and shopping in town and plenty of sightseeing in the area.
Each year we travel to NC to escape the heat in Dallas and every vrbo rental is a lottery. This time we hit the jackpot. Treehaven is a lovely house in an awesome location up amongst the trees. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who wants to stay in a fine house with total privacy and comfort. We liked it so much we think we should move there!!!
Thanks to the owner of Treehaven for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home.
