Very peaceful stay
We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage daughters. We had a very nice and peaceful stay at House Basta. The house is spacious and well equipped. The pool down the hill is great!
The house is also a good location for trips to the nearby beaches.
Highly recommend the Italian restaurant Il Padrinho in São Teotonio.
Monte do Casarão, an old eucalyptus plantation, located in the southwest of the Alentejo, about 15 km from the Atlantic Ocean, in the triangle Costa Vicentina, Barragem de Santa Clara and the Monchique Mountains. Monte do Casarão located in a beautiful nature, away from civilization. The silence is audible; you smell like mint, lavender and eucalyptus; the views, the calm, the sky is impressive. Monte do Casarão invites to hiking, biking and doing nothing. 300 km of hiking and biking trail is in the immediate area, more than 80 species of birds have been spotted there. The serpent eagle flies here and the eagle owl. It is the habitat of badgers, otters, turtles, deer, mongooses, foxes, wild boar and some small fry.
The nearest town is Sao Teotonio, 13 km away from Monte do Casarão, where you can buy your groceries. It is a lovely, traditional village with several cafes, large and small supermarkets (Intermarché, Aldi and Lidl), shops, dentist, health, pharmacy and banks. Further afield there are the beaches and villages on the Atlantic: Zambujeira do Mar, Almograve, Vila Nova de Milfontes. It is a region that is mainly frequented by Portuguese. Hikers discover the area or gradually: the Rota Vicentina, two years ago opened new trail from Sines to Sagres, the southernmost tip of Portugal, in domestic and foreign press extensively applauded.
Within a radius of 25 -100 km you will find all sorts of interesting and charming towns: Odemira, Beja, Evora, Lagos, Sagres, Silves, Monchique, Aljezur. Along the way there are wine farms, golf courses, Moorish and Roman excavations, even dolmens and menhirs, reservoirs, churches, shopping malls, potterieën, aquatic parks. You can take boat trips on the ocean or on the Mira River, surfing, horseback riding, canoeing, ballooning, sea fishing: everything is within driving range. And after such a trip you will return to your comfortable and familiar holiday at Monte do Casarão, to blow out while the next day again: dip in the pool, little and enjoy the sun in your deckchair on your terrace with a book from the library, hight from your mountain, delicious.
