More information on the surrounding area:
Cotton Bay village is situated on the North East Coast of St Lucia. It is a 15 minute drive from the main town of Rodney Bay which is the main tourist centre for the North of the Island. Rodney Bay has everything you need to enjoy a self catering villa holiday. There are 2 very good supermarkets, one in the relatively new shopping mall with parking. There are excellent pharmacies, a walk in medical centre and a dentist practice. Rodney Bay is is a fun and lively social hub with a range of bars and restaurants.
En route from Rodney Bay to the village is the Rodney Bay Marina area. It provides moorings to a fantastic array of ocean going yachts including some truly jaw dropping super yachts. The Marina is a lovely location for for coffee and lunch and in the evening it transforms into a relaxed venue for drinking and eating and very family friendly. There is a lovely SPA at the Marina with a great reputation and very week trained therapists. Boat cruises and deep sea fishing trips can be organised at and leave from Rodney Bay Marina. Next to the Marina is the impressive new St Lucia Dive Centre where you can book dive trips and lessons.
2 kilometres from the village is the Club house for the 18 hole championship St Lucia golf course where you can hire clubs and buggies (compulsory) and enjoy a a round of golf.
The village is a 1hour 30 minute drive from Hewanorra International Airport. We are able to recommend a transfer service, also hire cars can be collected from the airport. An exciting transfer ride is by helicopter and it lands at George Charles airport near Castries which is a 30 minute drive to Cotton Bay Village. The drive from Hewanorra takes you along the Atlantic side east coast of St Lucia, through the rain forest to the Caribbean side west coast. You then drive through the capital Castries with the cruise ship and ferry port on your left and then onto Rodney Bay. the final approach to Cotton Bay Village is on a small road through the 18 hole St Lucia Golf course and past some of the Cap Estate villas.
Michael and Sarah live in Berkshire in the South East of England. We have owned the property since 2007 and travel to St Lucia at least once a year to check it out and enjoy St Lucia.
We loved the location of the villa from the first time we saw it. We very much enjoy that we are independent to spend our holiday time was we wish. We enjoy eating out but it is also funs to buy fresh Caribbean vegetables at the roadside stalls and cook great meals in our home from home.
We have had a number of family and extended family holidays here and no matter what age they have all enjoyed it. It is an especially good place to recover the day after a hard night partying in Rodney Bay so we are told!
Equally we love it when we are in the house on our own as it is so peaceful and the garden is an ideal place for reading and relaxing during the day and enjoying a sundowner cocktail in the evening. We have friends who live in St Lucia so we are able to entertain them in our own home which is a bonus.
Sarah O'Shea purchased this villa in 2007
St Lucia is a beautiful island and this is a beautiful spot on the island. It is peaceful and secluded but not far from all the amenities and shopping offered by Rodney Bay. The beach is wonderfully unspoilt and there are no beach vendors. It is a lovely home from home base from which you can explore and do as much or as little as you like. It is well set up for self catering and enables you to have the freedom to eat in or out and explore the cuisine and food available on the island.
The village is exceptionally family friendly as there are no steep hills and there is a toddler pool near the main pool. Equally it is fun for a group of friends to share the villa or for larger groups rent another villa in the village.
We have a trusted and very good villa manager who has lived in St Lucia for 7 years who lives within 10 minutes of Cotton Bay Village. All housekeeping and maintenance is vetted and overseen by our manager. The property is maintained and cleaned to an excellent standard. Any issues are dealt with calmly, efficiently and effectively by her and her team.
All in all the villa represents exceptional value for money.
We were absolutely fond of the house. Located in a gated and quiet area, we enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing time. The little pool has prooven to be very refreshing on hot afternoons and the beach is really close by (only downside on the beach: lots of horses/ tourists riding/ straying (but friendly) dogs). Gros Islet/ Rodney Bay are quickly accessible (10-15min by car) and there you find a variety of supermarkets and good restaurants.
Communication with Sarah was always very easy and Anne, her contact on the island, was lovely and responsive, too. Many thanks to both of you for your tipps on restaurants and shopping!
St Lucia is an unspoilt island in the Caribbean with a lovely climate all year round. The island's relaxed lifestyle allows you to switch off and take in its natural beauty. The people are welcoming, friendly and warm. English is spoken everywhere in St Lucia, many people speak French and islanders also speak in their native Patois.
There are lots of excursions and tours you can take on the island. If you have a car it is easy to explore yourself.
On the Caribbean coast towards the south of the island to see the Pitons and the natural hot sulphur springs plus mud baths at the Volcano. Also visit the botanical gardens and the waterfall. the Ladera resort is a lovely place to have lunch with a stunning view over the Pitons.
The Jaquot trail gives hikers the opportunity to learn about Flora and Fauna. Hotel Chocolat near the hot springs offers a bean to bar experience which ends with you making a chocolate bar using estate grown cocoa.
Further north towards Castries there is the Castries Waterworks a forest reserve and a favourite spot for bird watchers. Also on the road back to the north a zip line through the tree tops experience and an aerial tram through the tree tops of the rain forest.
www.junglereefadventures.com organise various adventures based near Anse Chastanet. Also jungle mountain bike rides www.bikestlucia.com
The whole area around Anse Chastanet and the Pitons has a lot to do and see so well worth a trip. It will take all day!
Boat trips can be arranged from Rodney Bay Marina both organised and private. It is a fantastic way to see the Caribbean coast and they will stop for snorkelling and lunch. On the way back the final destination is Marigot Bay which is beautiful and you can have a drink at the upmarket Capella resort or at Doolittles which is right on the bay and very relaxed. The crew will give you lots of background information during your cruise.
For the fit and adventurous guides can be arranged for you to climb Mount Gimie which is the tallest mountain in St Lucia 3,117 ft. Also climbs of the Pitons can be organised and the view from the Gros Piton is apparently stunning.
A new dive centre has opened just next door to the Rodney Bay Marina so of those of you who like to dive it is 15 minutes from CBV and well worth checking out.
