Alcudia is a small fishing port, which today is known as a great place for people who live as if they were on the beach. The promenade, winning several competitions in architecture and urbanism through the Port in a pleasant aroma with a breeze. On one side the sea, traditional fishing boats 'Llauts' and modern marina Alcudiamar. On the other hand, the best fish restaurants, ice cream parlors and clothing stores. And facing the beach, miles of fine sand that draws the semicircle of the bay of Alcudia. It is the most popular beach in the area, which has a range of services from bars to boat rental and sailing courses or aquatic park.

Not only the beach. These browsers have much to do off the main beach of Alcudia as there are almost twenty: sand, rocks, accessible only by sea. Among the intimate beaches include Alcanada, or the S'Illot Coll Baix. The latter is a true wonder of nature that is only accessible by boat or after a pleasant outing among pine trees and rocks.

Precisely from the Coll Baix begin some very interesting excursions for lovers of trekking and nature as it rises to Sa Talaia, ancient watchtower at the highest point of the village. From above we see two bays, the Serra, Alcúdia, the Pla de Mallorca and when the day is clear, the coast of Menorca.

But if there is any place to visit for nature lovers, S'Albufereta and S'Albufera are two of the largest wetlands of ecological importance of the Balearic Islands, located in Alcudia and surroundings, and meet interesting plant and animal life.

At 3 miles from the house is the old town of Alcúdia, called the faithful city in Christian times, the name is Arabic and Roman footprint. A past forged between them in a privileged enclave in the north of Mallorca. Located near the Serra de Tramuntana, Alcúdia has his back to the farm and rural Mallorca, and bathe his feet in the waters of two bays, the north of Pollença and Alcudia this. Alcúdia is located in the center of this area of contrasts, between the stone wall of the Serra and the sandy coves of the Bay of Alcudia between the north wind, sea and inland.

The historical legacy does not detract from what remains today in modern Alcúdia an unknown place for many island residents. Surprisingly, for some, is especially known for its wonderful church and the walled city. It is common to find an authentic place so located as close to the tourist and has kept the essence of the Mediterranean city, where everything happens at a different speed, where everything is savored and enjoyed. Alcudia, in a sense, we live today as yesterday, taken within its medieval walls (which began construction in 1300). Sa Square is the center of 'alcudiencs' passing place, the meeting point. All around there are bars and terraces that allow us to enjoy this quiet and combine it with a good dish.

Leaving the square using the streets in several directions to a point on the wall as the gates of Xara and Sant Sebastia, and the Church of Sant Jaume, opposite which is the city of Rome Pollentia and a little more beyond the Roman theater, a 'rara avis' because instead of being built, were excavated in the rock.

A row of orange mark the route of the main streets, Carrer del Moll and Carrer Major. In these streets and we are adjacent to small jewelery shops, shoe stores, clothing stores, bars, restaurants, among many large houses built centuries ago, small and peaceful squares. Alcúdia is one of those places that is worth losing left its streets to discover around every corner a new charm, a new feel.

Every Tuesday and Sunday morning, accelerating the pace of the city is the market. Farmers, traders, artisans, artists fill the color and bustle of people around, inside and outside of the medieval wall.

Lovely property, excellent quiet location

  • 5 of 5

The property was a great size for 8 adults and two little children in a lovely quiet and secluded location of Mal Pas with very friendly owners and superb organisers from HomeAway (who replied to any query in minutes).

The indoor space is a little dated at the villa (and that's nitpicking) but very clean, comfortable, spacious, and absolutely fine especially if your idea is to spend more time outside. The kitchen has all the necessaries and there is a large garage to park luggage etc.

The outdoor area I thought was perfect for our needs with a fantastic BBQ (with chimney which makes a massive difference if it's a tad breezy). If your idea is to cook a few evening meals the seating outside is perfect with a gazebo overhead and adequate lighting and pool lights etc. There is also a drive to park a car although the driveway from the road is very tight. After a couple goes you get used to it.

And going slightly off piste...but nearby to the villa...

The closest beach is a 5 minute walk away (and that's a slow walk with two babies). The beach is generally busy on hot days (mid September) but thankfully lacking in the undesirables you may encounter in other parts of Majorca. The main beach is suitable for toddlers as cut off from big swell so generally calm. There are plenty of rocky areas to swim over from the beach too so the snorkelling was very good. Also has a little beach bar/cafe run by some cool dudes, who occasionally feel the need to try and impress you with up side down yoga moves, but are very friendly nonetheless and serve alcohol and good sandwiches.

Local restaurant Bodega Del Sol (2 min walk) - unbelievable Paella. I've never tasted anything like it. The fish they cook was amazing too. Honestly the best 'home cooked' style Spanish meals I've ever had. They also let us takeaway anything on the menu along with paella dishes etc for a small deposit! Just don't fall into the trap of eating at the Mirador De La Victoria - it's a restaurant with an incredible view of the sea on a hillside but the food was terrible, over cooked, and not worth the money at all.

There is also a small supermarket and a couple decent bars next to the local docks which are 5 mins walk away. Great cocktails.

You can also get to Alcudia town in under 10 mins drive. Free parking everywhere and some really very good restaurants and cultural sights within the old town.

I would definitely, and will probably, go back again in the future. A great holiday.

Lovely house in nice area

  • 4 of 5

The house itself isn't fancy but it has everything you need, is nice and cool during the day and is 5 mins walk from the nicest beach we saw in Mallorca! The pool + barbeque are great. The area is quiet but we enjoyed it!

The only negative I can think of is the gate to get into the property, it is manual and VERY heavy so if you don't have strong arms you may struggle to open and close it each time you leave the property. It has a motor so it should really get fixed as it was very tricky to open.

Quiet, spacious, excellent

  • 4 of 5

Very pleased. Great location - tucked behind other houses, very private. Lovely pool and lots of outdoor space. Indoors - adequate (big beds, bedrooms adequate, another bathroom would have been good). Kitchen fair - we would certainly go back and recommend to others. Its not 5-star luxury - but not 5star prices either.

The best success

  • 5 of 5

I am happy to leave this comment so that others will enjoy the place I stayed with 6 of my friends for our holiday in Mal Pas, Mallorca. We chose a luxurious villa that was beachfront and at a great price for a big group. The house is very private and we were able to let really relax. We visited the quaint market in the town next to us, which had a fair that sold fresh fruit and vegetables plus leather goods and souvenirs. There is a very nice place to cook outside along the pool which had its own bathrooms! It was the best we could have hoped for and we recommend this wonderful place to anyone wanting to relax in style.

Great!!!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures were extremely informative and true to the lovely house in Mal Pas which was peaceful with wonderful feeling. I loved the way the house was laid out and equipped in luxury. Our main contact, Juan, helped with any of our questions or where we could shop. The house was ideally situated for walks along the beach at sunrise. I loved it. The whole family loved Mal Pas because there something for everyone, including my two young sons. We have already planned on returning for next year.
