I have a portfolio of other rental properties and have had many years of experience in the letting market.I also have been a customer of holiday lets and realise the standard at which people expect.Apart from the business Im also mother of 4 children.

Samantha Hudson hulmes purchased this house in 2007

Why Samantha Hudson hulmes chose Trowbridge

Having lived in the lodge before with the children,We have had such wonderful times in the house. It's great place for family gatherings at Christmas/ birthdays/ bbqs. Etc a splendid location within easy commute of many beautiful attractions.

What makes this house unique

The garden is southwest facing meaning on those glorious sunny days you will have the sun all day. There are 2 log burners in the property for those lovely warm winter nights and an aga which will fit a large goose in for Christmas lunch! ( hugely important) we will try an accommodate most requests I.e cots, toys, bbqs, Christmas trees and decorations, babysitting is on hand with the housekeeper should you request it..

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous group stay property - New Year celebration - hide & seek delight!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 11 (7 adults / 4 children (9-14yo) who had a fantastic long weekend at this property over the New Year. A really impressive property - slightly quirky adaptations over the years to this Regency property which make it great for groups. Perfect combination of bedrooms for us, with youngest 3 girls able to share a room together at the top of the house.

All the facilities we needed and expected, and extra bonus of house still having Christmas decorations up made it really festive for us. Kitchen pretty well equipped - we were able to cook a 3 course roast dinner on the Aga without trouble, just careful planning!. As comments before have noted the kitchen fridge is a small under the counter type, but with access to the celllar we had an effective chilling larder and freezer which covered our needs well. Water pressure for the shower is a little low, but we knew in advance and wasn't an issue, with bathrooms meeting our needs quite adequately. Heating very efficient so we had little need of the open fires.

Entertainment: lovely piano which several of our group enjoyed playing, lots of games & DVDs available, and the house was superb for hide & seek (we called the cellar out of bounds!).

Close to Bath for a day out, access to historic areas for walks, Saturday morning Park Run for those keen enough, and local takeaways & Tesco Express covered our needs.

David & Sam were great and trusting hosts - from initial contact, covering our questions pre arrival, through to on site arrival and tour/intro, to end visit conclusion. Very helpful; we didn't have any issues during our stay so didn't need to call on them for any help.

Excellent venue for a large group which we'd be happy to use again.

Lovely house but very poorly presented and inadequate

  • 2 of 5

Upon arrival there was no one there to greet us despite telling the owner that we would be there at 4 o’clock, thankfully we were 20 minutes late otherwise we would have been left waiting. The owner seemed disinterested in showing us around. There was a vase of rotting dead flowers which the owners apologised for but made no attempt to dispose of them.

The house itself was in terms of layout and size was ideal for our party which consisted of 10 adults and 1 infant but the property was very inadequate as far as amenities.

The kitchen had a small fridge which was made worse as the storage rack for milk was missing and therefore this reduced greatly the storage space for food. The aga was totally impractical to cook a meal for 10 . The dishwasher was very dirty the filter was clogged with food and the kitchen bin had not been cleaned.

The shower was totally pathetic it was just a dribble and the cold water in the upstairs bathroom didn’t work.

All in all the house could be described as grubby and tired this might be due to the fact that the owner is selling the property. As an owner of two holiday properties this house fell well below standard and did not represent good value for money.

Owner's Response: I feel this is unfair review. The couple were late. Did not even inform to this. I showed the party how to heat the house etc.. asked if they had any questions, Too which they didn’t! I made them aware myself of some flowers which needed to be disposed of. They told me not too worry I didapologise for this. I had other properties I had to let that weekend as well as cremating my father-in law. I didn’t make a fuss when they bought a dog and parked 6 cars on my property Too which my neighbours made me aware of this.i should have cancelled the booking. If they had called me I could of helped in some way, they chose not too....

Wonderful house

  • 5 of 5

10 of us (all adults) stayed at Regency Lodge over Christmas - it was brilliant! So much room, ample parking and just a beautiful house. The photos do not do this house justice.

Convenient location, able to walk into town, only 0.5 miles from a very large Tesco should you need anything and about 20 mins drive from Bath.

We had a wonderful time and Sam, the host, was very helpful and accommodating.

Beautiful large house perfect for group of friends

  • 3 of 5

The house is beautiful with lots of georgian features and log burners. It was a good Size for 9 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs. We were greeted by David who showed us around the property. The only problem was that the facilities were impractical. There is one shower and one bath. The shower is very poor and there wasn't enough hot water for everyone. Also the aga made cooking for such a large group difficult despite having an experienced aga user in the group. It seems for such a large house it needs better bathroom and kitchen facilities. But despite this we had a really fun time and the reception rooms were beautiful and provided plenty of space for us all.
