A delightful location on Penobscot Bay, five-minutes drive from Camden, with its picturesque harbor, full of sailboats from around the world and its own schooner fleet. Trail heads, accessing Camden Hills State Park, are just a few minutes away. Views from the high points in the park are renowned for their extraordinary beauty and expansiveness, inspiring artists and poets for generations.
Surrounded by woods and fields, with a path to our private ocean shore, our deliciously cozy apartment is perfect for couples of all ages. It is situated in five acres of woods with several hundred feet of shoreline and is located about 100 feet from the main house. A footpath leads to the shore with views of the islands and passing sailboats, and where wind and tide bring sometimes subtle, sometimes dramatic changes, from day to day.
Guests may stroll through our organically certified vegetable garden nearby, where vegetables are free for the picking!

Thank you so much for a lovely long weekend. We enjoyed all things Maine--windjammer sail, lake swimming, seafood and watching a fisherman pick up lobster traps from our private beach! You have a lovely home & garden and we felt so welcomed here. We hope to see you again and will certainly recommend this retreat to friends! Thanks again.
We really enjoyed our stay. The place was well equipped. It was very private and close to all kinds of outdoor activities. But our favorite thing was exploring the beach and looking at the stars from the deck.
This will be our first choice if we get the chance to visit Maine again.
Ours was a return trip to the Ashgrove Farm apartment. Returning tells you everything you wondered about, or at least refreshes some details. The privacy, the deck, the walk to the shore, the produce, the gracious hosts...all combine to make for another wonderful retreat.
My wife and I had a wonderful time staying here for nine nights. The apartment is on the second floor over a garage where John stores his tractor. It is large with a great kitchen to work in, a sleeping area set aside from the main living area and a large "living room" with plush comfortable chairs, lots of windows, a large porch, a stereo amplifier, television, DVD player (and DVD's) and plenty of lighting. The bed is very comfortable, there were extra blankets available and there were a lot of small items that came in handy. If you come during the right time of the year you get to pick whatever you want from their farm market at no extra cost. What is really nice is the quiet. The one apartment is all there is to rent out and the only other house on the long lane leading towards the water is John & Lucy's house and even that is set pretty far away. So you have real privacy. The television is for watching DVD's or streaming from your computer, there is no on-air reception. The bathroom is functional but just a little weird with a shower and toilet in one small area, then a bar-sized sink in an adjoining area that closes off for privacy. Lots of hot water and lots of storage for a bathroom. There is a dishwasher (that I never used), a microwave and plenty of pots, pans, dishes, cups and utensils. The walk to the beach takes six or seven minutes at most - once you're there it is very, very private. Rocky of course (this is Maine) but there will be two chairs waiting for you and more that you can carry down if you like. We can't recommend this place highly enough.
Lucy & John are a wonderful couple and my husband and I were VERY pleased to have booked our honeymoon with them. The apartment was perfect for us! Very cozy & cute! Lucy & John were very sweet and helpful. If you're looking to visit the Lincolnville-Camden area of Maine, you should definitely stay here! Very close to many activities, shops, winery's, as well as right on the water! We loved the area and had a blast! We'll definitely be back in 5 years or so to relive our perfect honeymoon getaway. Couldn't of asked for a better vacation. The only thing we're upset about is not being able to stay longer! Enjoy! Thanks again, Lucy & John!
After being on a windjammer for 5 days (which I loved), the privacy of The Ashgrove was perfect. As the couple before me stated, I too found I wanted to spend more time "home". Lucy was so gracious, welcoming, and helpful. Kitchen- a treat to cook in- site pictures show ample counter space and the view out to the trees a pleasure while preparing food or cleaning up. The overall space of the apt is roomy, good storage, plenty of light. The mattress was comfortable and I liked the way the bed was tucked off to the side- felt cozy that way. Great to walk to the water and I enjoyed spending time on shore-sunshine and one foggy morning. The picture of path ending at the water doesn't do justice to what one finds once one emerges onto the shore. (Seeing the Islesboro Ferry come and go was fun, also.) When in Camden before, I had never stayed outside the town and being further north encouraged me to explore Belfast. I found this location easy to explore the inland countryside and more around Lake Megunticook, coming from Lincolnville, rather than Camden for a different perspective. I did eat in, but also out: Belfast on Sunday late afternoon of Labor Day got hungry (was parked across the street from La Vida, so gave it a try. I chose the locally raised chorizo fajitas and liked it). In Camden I enjoyed a second year of meals at Longrain , as well as winning meals at the new restaurant Pig and Poet at Whitehall Inn. I visited Camden State Park, drove to the top and then hiked the Mt. Battie trail. I would have liked to do another trail, also, but I was still recovering from 4 days of intense hiking on Vinalhaven Island.
I recommend staying here. If not for the affordable price I wouldn't be able to extend my vacation extra days after the Windjammer. Something this nice that is so affordable is appreciated (and some goodies from the organic!) Two things to be aware of: One minor frustration was some WiFi issues . Some times I needed to be on-line and I had to go outside to the steps or stand in the driveway to have it work- booster had been installed, but I guess there are some kinks to work out. Not a huge issue for me, but one that could be serious if needing to do work. One other small thing to adjust to was the sink set-up in the bathroom area. But I did and it became a non issue. To sit on the deck in day or night was wonderfully relaxing and private- basically, bottom line is that I am so glad I found and chose The Ashgrove! Thanks for everything.
The Ashgrove was a great find. Nestled in the woods, it was secluded, yet very close to all of the best in the area. From inside, it makes you feel like you are in a tree house. We found ourselves spending more and more time on our peaceful, private, tree shaded deck as the week went by. Also loved the short stroll down the fern and spruce framed foot path to the private rocky beach with a bottle of wine at sunset each day. We felt so safe here we never even locked the car or the cabin door. Absolutely incredible weather. Sunny and 75 with cool nights. Perfect for sleeping later than normal, we almost felt guilty for being so relaxed. There was no cable TV here and it turned out we were glad not to have the temptation. Lucy does have 40+ movies to choose from and wi-fi, so were able to stay in touch with the world when needed. Also found a radio station out of Portland (107.5) that played the best mix of classic rock I have heard. We left the tuner on the entire time we were there. John and Lucy were great hosts, always willing to offer advice when asked but still gave us the privacy we expected. As for sightseeing, we went a different direction every day. Acadia National Park, Mt. Battie, Point Lookout, Highway 1 down the coast, wine tastings inland and a sunset sailing out of Camden harbor. Camden was our favorite, It looked like a postcard. Plenty of fine restaurants to choose from but we enjoyed bringing Hannafords ceations back to the cabin for a private dinner for two. You might find a fancy B&B for two or three times the cost if that's your thing, but we have stayed in over 30 VRBO properties all over the U.S. and this was probably the best value of them all. Ashgrove is a real hidden gem. Thanks, Lucy and John, for a great late-summer week!
