At Hale Malihini you can chose to rent the entire five bedroom/four bath home, or the upper suite consisting of three bedrooms/two baths 1800 square feet. Located in a residential neighborhood this stunning property features ocean views from portions of both units and the private pool deck. The home has a two-car garage, swimming pool, and lush tropical landscaping. Maximum occupancy is 10 persons for the 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. Upstairs 3 bedroom 2 bath sleeps 6 persons. SMOKING IS NOT PERMITTED ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY.


Magic Sands (La Aloa) Beach Park is a five-minute walk featuring swimming and body boarding. Kahalu'u Beach Park is one mile South featuring amazing snorkeling in a shallow reef protected lagoon with sea turtles and tropical fish. The Keauhou Shopping Center is two miles away featuring an array of shopping and dining options. Keauhou Bay is surrounded by the Keauhou Country Club golf course and adventure cruises to Kealakakua Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Our home is just four miles from downtown Kailua-Kona. Before you decide to make a reservation, please know our home is located in a residential neighborhood, maintained with pride, and guests must respect neighbors rights to the 'quiet enjoyment' of their properties. Smoking is not permitted indoors or outdoors.


The large lot has mature lush tropical landscaping, enjoy brilliant tropical sunsets from the lanai and living areas. Both units are furnished with exotic Indonesian bamboo furniture; the upper unit has two-queen sized beds, a queen sofa bed, and full-sized bed in third bedroom. The Ohana unit has two queen beds and each bedroom has a private bath. The floor plans allow a large family or group of friends to share the home yet have individual privacy. There is limited collection of DVD movies, and Hawaiian music CDs as well as beach chairs, towels, and related items. High cathedral-like ceilings and color accented walls in the upper unit create an open warm environment. Tasteful Hawaiian art work adorns walls, there is a modest library of fiction, historical, ethnographic, and geographic literature. Each unit has its own washer, dryer, and fully equipped kitchen.

As of 2011 two new HD TV's and a secure wireless internet are included in both upper and lower portions of the home.

Location and Driving Directions:

Hale Malihini on Hawaii's Big Island, is 12 miles from Keahole International Airport. At the airport turn right onto the main highway and proceed eight miles to Palani Drive, turn right past three traffic lights, and the road becomes Alii Drive. Drive four miles south to the four-mile marker at La Aloa Beach Park, turn left on La Aloa Drive, go one-half block and turn left on Princess K. Street, then bear immediately right up Akai Street to 77-6490.



Ask about special group and longer term discount policies. A security deposit of $500. is due at booking and is not refundable if booking is cancelled less than 45 days prior to arrival unless owner is able to secure another tenant at same rate and terms. Payment in full is due 60 days prior to arrival. The new rental contract has full particulars on reservation and cancellation policies.

I am a Realtor licensed in California and formerly Hawaii with over 35 years experience in real estate sales. My family helps maintain this property with great pride and attention to detail because it is a second home for us. My current sports related interests include beach volleyball, bike riding, and swimming. An interest in the history of Hawaii and Asia has led me to keep a modest library of books on these topics at the house. I am both a Vietnam Veteran and a graduate of the University of California Santa Cruz.

Why Benjamin Dunn chose Kona Coast

After visiting the Big Island since 1988 my family and I decided to use a rental property we owned in Santa Cruz, Ca. in an IRC 1031 exchange. Our friends in Hawaii helped us evaluate locations and this home with it's proximity to Keauhou Bay, Magic Sands Beach Park, and Kahalu'u State Beach has proved to be a perfect location for us and guests. Our central location allows trips to Keauhou Bay, Volcano National Park, Hapuna State Park, and Paniolo country.

What makes this house unique

Music and dance presentations at the Keauhou Shopping Center are free and of high quality. Also the shopping center has a multi-plex theater and good restaurants. We can easily walk to Magic Sands Beach and Kahalu'u Beach State Parks. Our two car garage allows for storage of a modest amount of sports gear and we are only 3 miles from the Kona Country Club golf course. Our residential neighborhood has allowed us to get to know Hawaii residents and to become friends.

Wonderful big house with great location

This is an excellent big house with a great location in Kona. There are 300 meters down to the wonderful Magic Sand beach. There are two separate parts: one upper with two smaller and one hugh bedroom and 2 big bedrooms on the lower level. On the upper level there is an big kitchen and dining room. You drive into central Kona on 10 minutes. Highly recommended!

I chose Hale Malihini as the perfect home to spend a family vacation in based on the location and pictures provided on VRBO. I was not disappointed. From the moment I showed an interest in securing the house for our family of 9, Ben was in contact with me and assured me of what to expect from a personal description of the home, to the area it was located in, and the finances. We were delighted to be so near White Sands Beach, as it became the first destination each morning for our one year old grandson, as well as the two teen grandchildren who loved to snorkel. We enjoyed exploring the entire island by day and were able to be back home in time for supper and the sunset. All of our rooms were comfortable and well appointed. We were especially grateful for the assortment of beach equipment including chairs, umbrellas, coolers, and water toys. We could not have survived our beach visits without them. We were able to take in the markets, coffee shops, and luau in town with just a 10 minute drive down Alii Drive. Our host was available and helpful from start to finish. Thank-you for a wonderful 3 week stay in your beautiful home, Jan and Ben. Mahalo.

Great place for Ironman Hawaii visit!

Hale Malihini is a beautiful home about 4 miles from the start and finish of the race. We could easily get into town for all of the pre and post race events; and to the swim start on race morning!

The ocean sunsets were beautiful! My family loved being so close to the beach and we all enjoyed the pool!

I hope to come back and would definitely stay here again!

a perfect family vacation home

Our group of ten family members, ranging from ages one to seventy-five, recently spent ten wonderful days at Hale Malehini. We arrived to find a spotless house that was exactly as represented in the listing. We were in a quiet family-type neighborhood so the house rules included pool hours etc. that took the neighbors into consideration- but but would not be appropriate for a rowdier "party" group. The fact that the property is two separate units worked out well for our group and made it easy for little ones to be napping in one part while other activities were going on. The lovely pool ended up being one of the main highlights, and there was a very pleasant beach just five minutes walk from the house. Since we had ten days, we did spend two of them driving to the other side of the island, but we found everything we needed and wanted- good groceries, great restaurants, shopping and lovely beaches within just a few miles of the house. The property owners were very gracious and responded quickly to any questions we had. We would happily stay there again and recommend it to others.

Hale Malihini - The perfect family vacation rental!

Our recent visit to Kona was great at Hale Malihini! The owner was very helpful answering any questions before, during and after our vacation.

This home was the perfect place for the 9 of us ranging from 10yrs old to over 70. It was well equipped for all our sleeping, bathing, cooking and beach needs. Everything is clean, updated and well maintained. Instructions are clear and well posted.

The home has beach towels and body boards for use and magic sands beach is just a short walk away. The pool at the home is clean and evening barbecues poolside are the perfect way to wind down after a fun filled day.

The homes location is excellent. Close to beaches and downtown Kona, yet perfectly nestled in a quiet neighborhood.

Wake up to the sound of birds, a fresh cup of Kona coffee, go on excursions all day, and return to grill your freshly caught fish in the evening. Now THAT is a vacation!

We had a fantastic time in this home! We were two families of four and had plenty of space. It is a bit awkward to get from the top to the bottom floor (there are two self contained units) but once we got used to it, it didn't bother us at all! This home is certainly lovingly maintained by the owners.

It was so nice to have such a well equipped kitchen and to have beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, etc all available for our use.

Everything was very clean and well maintained. At the time the BarBQ was not working perfectly but the property managers were aware and were trying to fix the problem.

The location is perfect, close enough to easily walk to two beaches - one great for snorkelling and another great for boogie boarding. The sunset right outside the dining room window every night and it was spectacular!

While booking this property, the owner Ben always answered my emails or phone calls very promptly and did everything he could to make our stay enjoyable. He was a real pleasure to work with and I wish I could have met him in person!

We highly recommend this home!
