The castle, built in the tenth century, was owned by the noble family Ritaldi. In 1078 it was donated to the Church, to which it was removed in 1241 by Frederick II. Later it was under the jurisdiction of Spoleto to become then free municipality. The castle is surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, almond and walnuts, and within the walls enclosing a garden where children can play in a safe environment.
The tower is equipped with a large living room with fireplace, a dining table with six seats, a large sofa and two armchairs. The living room communicates with a bathroom and a fully equipped modern kitchen (fridge, four burners) which opens onto a small private garden. From the living room a staircase leads to the first floor where two bedrooms with double beds and a bathroom with shower. One of the rooms opens onto a terrace.
The tower ends with a second terrace which overlooks the entire valley of Spoleto and you can see the Fortress of Albornoz that rises above the town. The tower is also equipped with a non-space underground room where the original tank of the Castle.
THE VILLAGE Morcicchia is a charming medieval village with stone houses, lovingly restored, a square and a lot of stairs. Immersed in the silence of the woods and not far from many important cities of art and culture, the village lies at the foot of the castle, it closed in thick walls, inside of which remain intact the imposing tower and the former stables. Here is welcome who is looking for tranquility and rest, which is in a place of great beauty, dominated by the views of the Martani Mountains, overlooking the valley of Spoleto, and those in search of culture, which meets in many small towns rich history and art, and in the many churches and castles scattered throughout the territory and perched on the hills.
LANDSCAPE Morcicchia is the natural starting point for pleasant walks in a pristine environment with unique landscapes.
ART AND CULTURE A stay at the Castello allows you to get in touch with the refined Umbrian culture. Assisi, Spoleto, Gubbio, Todi, Montefalco and Bevagna are only the most famous medieval old towns in the short distance from Morcicchia that offer important examples of medieval art in the frescoes and in the architecture of churches and public buildings that overlook vibrant squares; testimonials accompanied by traditional cuisine of the highest quality.
SPORT AND LEISURE The surroundings of Morcicchia offer the best opportunities for walking, mountain biking, horse riding and walking in the hills and mountains.
