About Thomas & Joanna
We are an Australian family with a passion for travel and the history of the D-Day landings. With a desire to be the guardians of a piece of such a historically diverse and culturally rich part of the world, as Normandy truly is, we found L'Auberdiere in late 2010. To say it was love at first site is an understatement. We knew immediately that L'Auberdiere is the home for us and we instantly had that feeling that only truly old buildings give, that if we were prepared to put in the love and hard yards to bring it back to life, it would reward is infinitely for doing so! Thus the love affair between has blossomed and in 2014 we completed a restoration of the house. Although we live in Australia, we endeavour to attend the D-Day commemorations in Normandy each year and have done for many years. As the guardians of a WW2 Willys Jeep we further ensure that it makes the trip from Australia with us every 5 years for the big D-Day celebrations, the most recent being the 70th Anniversary in 2014. First and foremost L'Auberdiere is a comfortable and homely family farmhouse. We have the most wonderful neighbours who run a dairy farm across the laneway and we want all our guests to enjoy the peace and tranquility that comes from each and every stay.
Thomas & Joanna purchased this Farmhouse in 2011
Why Thomas & Joanna chose Souleuvre-En-Bocage
As mentioned previously, it was love at first site with l'Auberdiere and we pinch ourselves each and every time we stay there, that we are so lucky to be the guardians of such an incredibly beautiful and tranquil part of such a diverse region as Normandy. The location of L'Auberdiere is ideal for all that Normandy has to offer. With Caen Carpiquet airport 35 minutes away, Vire main line station to Paris only 10 to 15 minutes away and motorway access to explore Normandy only 5 minutes away, L'Auberdiere really is in the heart of rural bocage country, yet ideally located for exploring the region.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Being centrally located, yet tranquil is the unique benefit of L'Auberdiere. It enables guests to head out on explorations in all directions across Normandy, with the convenience of easy travel links and first class infrastructure. At the end of a busy day exploring the sites of this incredible region, little could be better than being able to retreat to the peace and tranquility of your own traditional rural farmhouse and it's 8 acres of stunning pastureland. The ability to recharge the batteries and restore the soul each evening, surrounded by nature, means you are fresh each day for your next adventure.

Perfect Place to Stay When Visiting Normandie
The L'Auberdiere is quite charming and well suited for our family of four. The location allows reasonable driving distance to Mont Saint Michel, the D-Day beaches and towns, Caen, Rouen, and the coastal town of Honfleur. The drive home (back to L'Auberdiere) is always a pleasant feeling and site.
Thank you so much for your kind review. I hope to welcome you again in the future.
Rustige omgeving, prachtig huis
Thank you for your kind review of your recent stay at L'Auberdiere. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay. It was unfortunate that severe storms had caused some electrical infrastructure issues in the local area before your stay which required a power outage to be enforced by the local electricity company for the last few hours of your stay. It was as you say unavoidable and not anything to do with the electrical facilities at the farmhouse. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future and thank you again for your stay.
