About Gary Peak

We live an hour away in Fort Collins.

We have vacationed all over and often rented homes to stay in, and those were our best vacation memories.

Gary Peak purchased this house in 2005

Why Gary Peak chose Rocky Mountain National Park

It's all about the view! This area of the Rockies is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and one of the few very beautiful locations that has year-round activities.

The location and convenience are a nice bonus, but the views were the main consideration in choosing this property.Every room, every window in this house has a great view. We looked for years at Estes Park and Grand lake for a second home that would be an investment and eventually a retirement home for us. We saw lots of properties with no nice view, or tiny windows, or neighbors too close, too small,or too 'inconvenient' to get to. This home is in a perfect, very quiet spot. Our neighbors are few, they are not close by, and do not spoil the view. Getting to the Park, the restaurants, and the shopping are easy from this location. On Summer weekends when the town is jammed with tourists, it is easy to bypass the traffic by using Peak View and Riverside drive.

We love to go hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, and access to the park is quick and easy from this location. The drive to the Park from our property does not go through town and traffic is never an issue even on Summer weekends.

What makes this house unique

We have gone a bit overboard with guest amenities.

No vacation home has more entertainment options. The home theater with video games and movies will occupy the kids down stairs while the adults enjoy the view and 50 inch plasma tv upstairs.

Guestbook comments from the owner

July 14-July 28, 2007

We had a good time on our family vacation. At various times we had our four kids, their spouses and seven grandkids with us enjoying this very comfortable house. It is our joy to see the next generations enjoy and respect this mountain wonderland.

Everything was great - and we liked all the "new" additions - the new BBQ grill, the additional table on the deck, the new blender, and probably a few others I haven't mentioned. The new stairs are nice - and handsome, too - like the "tile" risers. And the pack and play was GREAT - thanks.

Once again thanks for making this available to us - we have already booked it for 2008!

A Labor Day Weekend Spent in Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect house for families, don't look any further!!! It was after much time and research trying to find the perfect house to accomodate the FIVE teenagers accompanying us on our Labor Day trip that we picked Gary's 'Dream Lake' house. We couldn't have been more pleased! The listing description is accurate, the home is very clean, comfortable, spacious and family-friendly. It came equipped with ample ammenities to accomodate our large group of 12. We felt so relaxed our entire stay. We had everything we could want, short of a hot tub! Hint, hint, Gary! The property management group and the home owner,Gary, were so easy to work with. Thank you all for taking such good care of us and making our trip a piece of cake to coordinate! This was my family's first time to Colorado and RMNP. All their suggestions really paid off, they have the "inside scoop" on Estes and RMNP! We went to Sweet Basillico's to eat our first evening there. They have a lovely outdoor deck and covered dining area built right by a stream. I highly recommend this restaurant for its atmosphere, excellent customer service and great food(: We had a blast walking downtown Estes Park, popping into the coffee houses and shops. The Stanley Hotel is beautiful and offers a fun ghost tour. It has a nice bar and restaurant too. Our hikes to Ouzal Falls, Bear Lake, Flat Top Mountain and Long's Peak were nothing short of amazing. Unparrelled beauty. We also enjoyed a drive along Trail Ridge Road, enjoying the views and stopping at the Alpine Visitor's Center to shop and sight see. We went on a two-hour trail ride from Sombrero Ranch up into the mountains. This was SO much fun and our guides took excellent care of us. The home's huge, movie screen/tv in the basement was such a luxury after our long days of hiking and sight seeing. It was a big hit with the kids to play Wii on! We all enjoyed the ease of this home's close location to the park and downtown, yet it couldn't have been built in a more lovely spot for its mountain and lake views. We sat out on its deck every chance we got. The views from the deck, especially at sunrise, are positively majestic....the sun rising over Mary's Lake, the cool mountain air, the herds of mule deer and elk grazing just just fills your heart and soul with its beauty...we can't wait to go back. We fell in love with RMNP and Estes, everyone must experience this heavenly place atleast once! Thank you, Gary and staff, for all the memories!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! You spent a good deal of your time in Rocky Mountain National Park, which is the "real" attraction up here with its awesome natural beauty. We are lucky to have a location that makes it very easy to get to the Park or to town. You and your family had a wonderful vacation and I hope you can make it back. I am considering a hot tub with your suggestion for the future. Thanks, Gary

Man Cave Extraordinaire!

  • 5 of 5

Four guys with a mission of hiking every day and getting in large Jacuzzi on return! Check! We loved the house. Location was secluded and quiet. The house and amenities are top notch. Beds were comfortable with good floor plan making for a quiet environment. The house appears to be the owner's 2nd home with all the personal items that makes it easy to relax and not worry if you need something special to make the stay perfect. The owner was immediately available if anything needed to be handled. The wild life around the house was a special treat. Turkeys, birds, elk, deer, and a pesky bear that we finally out smarted to keep him out of the dumpster! We really didn't have any interest in the video-TV- media aspect of leisure time, but the house was full of electronic equipment to fill your time if the Park wasn't enough. The owner was very knowledgeable about the park and gave us several recommendations on some hikes and other activities in the park. As noted in other reviews, this is really a fabulous house that will accommodate a large party of folks. All of my party enjoyed our stay and gave high praise to the house and owner's help throughout the week. The Twin Owls Steakhouse is the best restaurant in town by far and only accepts reservations a month in advance. Make yourself a reminder alert and get reservations!!

Kruses at Peak's in the Rockies

  • 5 of 5

After a 1300 mile cross country journey from Michigan to Estes Park that culminated in the breathtaking US-34 route in from Loveland, we made our way through and then past the town. Mary's Lake Road took us up a steep hill in a remote area to another street that took us higher yet and right to our destination only to arrive a couple hours early! (oops) But we got to meet Gary (the owner) who was hard at work making sure everything was perfect for our stay. We made our acquaintances, quickly used the bathrooms (long drive) and left Gary and housekeeping to their chores while we went back into town for groceries. We returned to find "perfect" had been achieved. Everyone felt right at home almost immediately in this well kept home in the middle of truly God's country. From the 360 degrees of breathless scenery to the almost Disney-like wildlife presence (birds, chipmunks, deer) to two floors of spacious comfort both inside and out (what a beautiful large deck!) to two high tech entertainment centers and much more, this home offered more than we ever expected. After a long day of hiking or horseback riding or sightseeing, what a wonderful place to kick back. Gary even took the time to send us an email to remind us of the Perseid meteor shower and how perfect the upper deck is to view the star filled night sky. Estes Park and RMNP are such incredible destinations. Anyone who has visited knows that words and pictures simply cannot do justice in describing the experience. And this home made that experience all the more special. Great times, great memories and high hopes of returning sometime soon.

Excellent Place to Stay!! Gorgeous views and wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5

Gary's house did not disappoint once again. We stayed here two years ago and knew then that we would return. This house truly has everything you can think of or might need last minute like us (first aid kit, extra backpacks, toiletries, laundry detergent, walking sticks, etc). This is a spacious home that even with our party of 8 did not feel cramped at all. It is perfectly decorated for the mountains and is clean and very well kept. It is a great location with very easy access to RMNP and downtown Estes. The views are spectacular and this house is the perfect place to relax indoors and out. Our kids especially loved the gaming systems downstairs. We LOVED the addition of the covered patio on the front of the house (so nice we could sit outside even when it was raining) and the hot tub was enjoyed by the kids and adults multiple days on our trip. Gary truly wants his guests to enjoy his home and it shows (from the welcome packet, directions, checking in during our stay and so on). And after going in some places with no A/C, we were so appreciative of that too! You will not be disappointed in this home.

Folding tables and chairs can extend the Dining table to seat 16. Some furniture will need to be moved to have one long table. We have matching china and silver to serve 16. The kitchen is well equipped with two toasters, two coffee makers, an espresso/cappuccino machine, coffee grinder, a microwave, blender, mixer, malt mixer, bread maker, donvier-style ice cream maker, two crock pots, one 8.5 qt, one 1.5 qt., rice cooker, and numerous pots, pans and utensils. another microwave is in the lower living area. In addition to our matching setting for 16, the property has plenty of everyday plates, silver, cups and glasses, etc. There are two gas grilles. One is steps away from the kitchen on the south deck. The other grill is located on the lower level covered flagstone patio. This grill gets little use but is very nice to have if it rains.
