My husband and I have owned this house since our boys were in High School here in Seaside. We are now retired and travel extensively and I couldn't bear to see my home empty without others enjoying the beach house, 1940's style. We have added modern admenities such as large TVs in both the family room and living room, Wireless internet, and Hot Tub. We have not remodeled the 1940 charm out of our house which was remodeled last in 1938 by a prominate Dentist in Seaside. The remodel was well done in the period and has withstood the time well. The house still has the pink Bakelite tile in the upstairs bathroom Mrs Miller put in when they remodeled in 1938. Enjoy our quirky beach house on the river.
Teresa A Taylor purchased this house in 1993
I loved this old house. Giant picture windows, lots of lounging space both indoors and out with a fantastic outdoor fire pit, large kitchen with everything we needed plus more, finished off with antique light fixtures and quirky art work. The only negative was only one full bath. Slept 9 easily. While not on the beach, it's an easy walk (maybe 1 mile), and watching the wildlife and the tide flow in and out on the estuary was truly just as enjoyable.
My family and I loved this comfortable, charming home. Beautiful views, close to the river, not too far from the city center and the beach. If you stay there, don't over-schedule so you can just enjoy the house, hot tub, and river.
This property had everything we needed for a fun week in Seaside for a dance convention. The house is located near the downtown area and beach. Lots of sleeping space, relaxing areas and a jacuzzi! The only thing that would be helpful to a large group staying at the house is another bathroom with a shower.
Needed to find a home to rent last minute as relatives from Iowa were visiting and wanted to see the coast. I happened to find this house still available, it was in a great location, close to interesting sites, and best of all right on the river. The house older but well kept and is well equipped with items to keep people of all ages entertained...books, movies, board games, a Wii, Crab traps, Hot Tub, a Canoe, etc. The house is very comfortable, I particularly enjoyed sitting in the sun room overlooking the Necanicum River, from there you can also see the ocean a half mile or so away.
The house served as an excellent base camp for excursions to Astoria, Long Beach, Cannon Beach, and Tillimook. Less than 30 minutes to great sites such as Fort Stevens park, the Astoria Column, and the Maritime Museum. 3 minutes to Downtown Seaside. But even though you are situated so close to the city center it still feels like you are in a isolated house. The main Windows look out over the river while fences and foliage provide the illusion of isolation.
The only heads up I would give is that there are no bedrooms on the main floor, there does appear to be sleeper sofas though. Also the only shower/bathtub is on the top floor.
I personally would not hesitate to stay here again. Oh, and my relatives son from Iowa who had never been to the Ocean before said the whole thing was "AWESOME." Can't beat that for a recommendation.
Thanks For a Wonderful Stay
We have rented many homes for family get away's and reunions. This one by far was my favorite and one that I fully intend to visit again. We met the owner upon arrival and felt welcome immediately. It was extremely clean and well cared for. It was decorated as though it was a home both tastefully and comfortable. It only has one full bath and one half bath but it accommodated us quite nicely, we just rotated our showers. The kitchen was fully stocked with plates, cups, silverware and anything we needed for the weekend. There were toys for the kids, croquet, fire pit, kites, crab pots and so many other items for use. There was even a high chair, pack and play as well as a stroller! Last but not least ...... the hot tub. All if it was marvelous and the owner was a joy to work with. I highly recommend this property (except when I want it).
