I Gelsomini is a lovely farmhouse, situated only 5 km from Lucca. The house has been restored by the owners, Italian architects, who used it until recently as their home. They successfully preserved the character of the old farmhouse, with its antique cotto floors and beamed ceilings. A covered patio connects the main house to the huge sitting room (100 sq. metres) that has been made out of the original hayloft, whose structure has been maintained yet modernized with parquet floor, fireplace and large windows overlooking the pool. It is also at less than 4 km from the motorway exit and is perfect to explore Tuscany: Florence is less than 50 minutes away; Pisa and the beaches less than 20 minutes; the center of Lucca less than 5 minutes. Lucca is one of the most fascinating cities of Tuscany and I Gelsomini is a typical example of local architecture. On first floor there is a air-conditioning unit to refresh the whole floor.
Ground Floor of Villa I Gelsomini: Sitting room with fireplace; kitchen/dining room with fireplace opening onto a terrace furnished with table and chairs, ideal for eating outside; double bedroom with en-suite bathroom (shower only). First Floor of Villa I Gelsomini: Double bedroom with ensuite bathroom (shower only); bedroom with french bed; twin bedroom; bathroom; study room opening onto a covered loggia; big sitting room opening onto back garden and loggia.
The saddest part of our stay at I Gelsomini was that we had only booked 1 week, and had not anticipated how wonderful this villa was going to be!
Booking through Salogi was a simple and friendly service.
The Villa owner greeted us on arrival and was so warm and relaxed, it set the scene for the week ahead. The Villa itself is luxurious, with 3 well furnished double bedrooms and a twin room. Three clean modern bathrooms, comfortable sitting room, well equipped country kitchen. On top of this is the day room which is 100sq.M ... so much space! The swimming Pool is clean and fresh... but not very deep... 1.3 metres at deepest, and acres of Olive groves to walk up in the evening for breathtaking mountain views and sunsets. One of the best points is that there are 3 or 4 locations at which to dine. In the kitchen, or outside the kitchen, in the dayroom, or at the barbecue balcony! There is a coop style supermarket just 10 minutes walk in Guamo, and a much bigger Esselunga store just outside Lucca. Check out the Il Bengio Pizzaria just 100m from the I Gelsomini gate, it's surprisingly good Trattatoria food and very affordable. Not many people speak English in this area, but French, Spanish, hand gestures and smiling all work well! Try the local cheese, cold meats and wine from the local coop... you will not be disapointed!
Oh and by the way, I Gelsomini has wifi internet!
One more thing, Spend some time in Lucca, highly recommended!
