In a sunny position on the slopes of the Luccan hills is an ancient “borgo” (a very small village), Fubbiano, with old country houses, wine cellars and an olive oil mill. The “borgo” is overlooked by the main villa, a typical Tuscan building dating back to the 18th century. In the grounds there is a private swimming pool in a panoramic position overlooking the plain of Lucca. Beyond the formal garden and terraces there is a small oak wood with a shady path leading to an ancient fountain. Clients can buy white and red D.O.C. wines and extra-virgin olive oil, among the best in the Lucca area. Nearby, are the “Grotte Giusti Terme”, a health spa and beauty centre, where guests staying at Fubbiano will have special terms. The Englishspeaking management is available for assistance and can arrange guided tours in the surrounding areas.
Ground Floor: Large kitchen with fireplace dining room opening on to the side garden of the villa. First Floor: 3 double bedrooms; twin bedroom; 4 bathrooms, 2 with bath and 2 with shower; large hall/dining room (also accessible from the main outside staircase); sitting room with TV. Second Floor: 2 twin bedrooms; bathroom (with shower); exercise room with equipment; laundry room with washing machine.
Fubbiano is perfect in its simplicity. It's not an eight star, luxury, gold tiles place, but it has the real 10 star Tuscan charm and warmth. A week in the Villa offers possibilities for both leisuring by the pool and excursions to Lucca, Firenze or Pisa. Or just a stroll to San Gennaro to eat lunch in the family run restaurant in the piazza. Or you could, as we did, hire local cook Roberta to work her magic with both antipasti, primi, secondi and dolce. And, of course, you have to ask Chiara for some of the Fubbiano wine (we love the Schiller Rosé!) and their incredible Olive Oil.
Fubbiano is perfect for those not in need of luxury, but in need of a quiet, peaceful and just perfect getaway in the heart of Tuscany.
