About the property

3 bedroom/2 bath Quintessential Mountain LOG home. Private and quiet w sunshine!

Location, Location, Location!! This is clearly the most spectacular vacation rental home we've seen anywhere in Yellowstone, and we love to share!

The Alpenglow Lodge will guarantee that your Yellowstone experience continues each evening when you return home! Our home is spacious, private and just plain glorious. Combine an authentic log home, rock fireplace , Log pool table, fantastic beds, comfy towels, all on a perfectly situated sunny lot right on the creek and you will feel and hear Rocky Mountain joy. Our location in the tiny berg of Silver Gate allows you to enjoy hassle free outdoor time with amazing mountain views, and at the same time, walk 1 minute to a great cafe or 2 general stores. This home is all on ONE LEVEL, and very user friendly.

We're at the gateway to YELLOWSTONE'S Lamar Valley, considered the SERENGETI OF AMERICA! The herds of wild animals are spectacular, and unique to this last holdout of 'wild America' !

Our home is less than a mile from Yellowstone Park!! You can enjoy this amazing wilderness setting right from the house, and yet be a half minute's walk from the Log Cabin Cafe, the Silver Gate town park, and 2 general stores! Wildlife, world class trout fishing, a family friendly mountain town, lakes, 4 waterfalls within a 30 minute walk from the house, hiking, a sandy beach, and even shopping are at your doorstep. You can't find a more desirable proximity to Yellowstone Park! And this area of America is has held its character. You'll find caring people, comfort and true American wilderness !

Our home, called The Alpenglow Lodge, (formerly the Indian Paintbrush home), is comfortable, romantic, and just what you imagine when you think of a mountain log home! It has big mountain views, the sound of the creek, handcrafted logs, a huge rock fireplace, large living room, a spectacular sunroom and nice beds! We have a large dining table as well as a bar-height counter for socializing. The home is ALL ON ONE LEVEL. We have ceiling fans in the sunroom, living room, and all three bedrooms. It never gets hot enough to need AC. The private deck boasts an unforgettable setting with a pristine forest, creek and mtn view! There is a Swedish Sauna on the property that is available to our guests in all three of our homes. But this cabin has priority scheduling. We frequently see moose and bison browsing in our yard. This is an ideal combination of mountains, comfort and a small village. This home is well kept, and very clean!

In this rural area of Montana, power outages can last a day or more in the summer due to high winds or lightning. We have installed a whole-house back up generator that automatically turns on if the power goes out. We also have a propane heating stove in the sunroom that feels so good in the cool mornings !

The glorious master suite is spacious, with a king size bed, a creek view couch, and a luxurious 1 person soaking tub on the deck, (available June 15 - Aug 31, swim suit advised). The master bedroom has the sound of the creek coming in it's many windows. It is very private with its own yard and a 3/4 bath. It has fishing just a few steps away and a gorgeous mtn view from the bed!

The other 2 bedrooms each have a queen size bed. One room has a play loft in it, (the ladder is vertical and not advised for children under 12). The other room has its own sink. Both bedrooms share the main 3/4 bath of the house. This bathroom is small, but does have a spacious tiled shower. This is a great house !!

We have a 5 nite minimum stay , and from July 1 - August 18 we have a 7 nite minimum.

If you need another bedroom, our fantastic one room Cabin, the Mountain HIdeaway, (vrbo #354935), is only a 30 sec walk away. It sits in a secluded, creekside location with it's deck right over the water! It has a queen bed, a kitchenette with a single burner electric stovetop, a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and apartment size refrigerator. There is a 'full+' bath in the cabin with both a shower, and a fabulous deep soaking tub w/hand held spray. It has a love seat, and a eating bar with an incredible view. The entire cabin also has one of the best views in the valley!! What a place to explore Yellowstone from !! (That is, if you can force yourself to leave the deck)

Our family's vacation homes are situated in the beautiful Silvergate valley, less than a mile from Yellowstone Park, and only a few hundred yards from Wyoming's Absaroka Wilderness Area. Our location gives our guests the opportunity to walk to the town park, walk to 4 different creeks with waterfalls in less than 1/2 hour, fish from the property, and yet be seconds from great food and gift shops! The hiking trail into Yellowstone Park from the cabins is amazing !! After mountain run-off we have a great sandy beach on the property!

The region provides enough variety for weeks of adventure. You will find another collection of restaurants, gift shops, and a larger general store just three miles down the road in the small, 1880's mining town of Cooke City. Some day trips include driving over the amazing Beartooth Pass, described by Charles Kuralt as 'the most scenic drive in America'! Numerous lakes provide great car picnicking, or plan to reach Red Lodge for a game of golf! An hour drive to the West takes you to Mammoth, the park headquarters. A drive through Sunlight Basin to Cody, Wyoming, (80 miles), is a must. Every night Cody offers its professional rodeo with great kids events. Also try the museum, golfing or excellent whitewater rafting in the Shoshone Canyon (ask specifically for the canyon).

We're confident that you'll enjoy the mountain experience of a lifetime in any of our homes! You can unwind and enjoy nature, float the Yellowstone river, relax in some hot springs, or challenge yourself to new heights. It's all here, and we'll do our best to show you some big, Western hospitality! We are now taking reservations for the 2017 season. Remember we have a 5 nite minimum in shoulder seasons, and in High Season, a 7 nite minimum with Saturday turnovers. See you soon!

About John and Kate Mickus

John, Kate and Emily Mickus live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Northeast Entrance and the Beartooth Mountains have been their favorite place to recreate for decades! 'We just love this area, its like going on a remote backcountry trip but still having some great amenities and the comfort of home!' John's parents purchased the property in 1975 and have created a spectacular combo of vintage log homes and modern comforts.

Combine this with the amazing creekside location in the Yellowstone ecosystem, and you have a vacation to remember! We're sure you will be impressed with the wildlife, mountains, and especially the beauty of our property. We look forward to hosting your family!

Perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely amazing week. Just outside the northeast entrance, our son got all the wildlife photos he had hoped for. We went into the park every day, to fish, hike (see trout spawn), enjoy the beauty, and see all the amazing Yellowstone things to see. Having this as home base was relaxing. The creek flowing out back looking up at the mountain, the sunroom where we ate many meals we cooked in the well equipped kitchen. The bed was a dream and the boys each had their own cozy room. We used the sauna every day and I even gave the tub on the master deck a try with a glass of wine. We had the luck of meeting John and his daughter Emily the night we got in and they were most helpful to get us settled in and to give us ideas for the area. Bill and Suzy were wonderfully hospitable and were there whenever we had a question or need. I sure do hope i can go back someday. Thanks for the perfect place to stay!

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

Huge master and adequately sized 2nd & 3rd bedrooms. Amazing view and quiet setting - creek side of home is very private. The cabin is a destination itself - being next to Yellowstone is icing on the cake. We will be back.

Great place to view nature and disconnect - literally!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful view from most windows. Sound of water flowing past is hypnotic. House is spacious and clean. Saw bison from our window and a moose from the back porch. We flew in to Salt Lake City which required over 7 hour drive (and a late night adventure through Yellowstone) to get to the house, but it was well worth the trip.

Such a nice place

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week's stay at Alpenglow Lodge. Each day we spent traveling through Yellowstone and then came home to the peace of Alpenglow. It is hard to say what we enjoyed most about the lodge...from the bison, Jackson, who visited us almost daily, to the moose, to the mountain view, to the creek, to the many amenities within the house, the list could go on and on. The photo is a nice picture of the back of the house. The front looks quite a bit different, which confused us and concerned us when we first pulled in. Thank you for a great stay.

Beautiful location + superb cabin = Unforgettable Experience

  • 5 of 5

If we could have stayed forever we would! My 11 year old called it homely on the first day and that is a very apt description .....massively comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen, games for the children, the creek, tub and sauna! The deck is amazing and the view stunning. Everyone relaxes and life is good. The cabin is secluded but just a mile from the entrance to Yellowstone in the sleepy but friendly village of Silver Gate. 1 minutes walk from a pleasant restaurant and a couple of shops where you can rent a scope to watch the animals (which are close to the North East entrance) and pick up ice cream, souvenirs and bear spray! Book this property!!!! This is the best property we have ever stayed in for the past 20 years!
