Location, Location, Location!! This is clearly the most spectacular vacation rental home we've seen anywhere in Yellowstone, and we love to share! We're at the gateway to YELLOWSTONE'S Lamar Valley, considered the SERENGETI OF AMERICA! The herds of wild animals are spectacular, and unique to this last holdout of 'wild America' !
Our home is less than a mile from Yellowstone Park!! You can enjoy this amazing wilderness setting right from the house, and yet be a half minute's walk from the Log Cabin Cafe, the Silvergate town park, and 2 general stores! Wildlife, world class trout fishing, a family friendly mountain town, lakes, waterfalls, (there's 4 within a 30 walk from the house), hiking, a sandy beach, and even shopping are at your doorstep. You can't find a more desirable proximity to Yellowstone Park! This area of America is has held its character - you'll find caring people, comfort and true American wilderness !
Our home, called the Indian Paintbrush, (the Wyoming State flower), is comfortable, romantic, and just what you imagine when you think of a mountain log home! It has big mountain views, the sound of the creek, handcrafted logs, a huge rock fireplace, large living room, a spectacular sunroom and nice beds! We have two dining areas, and a bar-height counter for socializing. The home is all on one level. We have ceiling fans in the sunroom, living room, and all three bedrooms. It never gets hot enough to need AC. The private deck boasts an unforgettable setting with a pristine forest, creek and mtn view! There is a Swedish Sauna on the property that is available to our guests in all three of our homes. We frequently see moose eating willows in our yard, summer and winter. This is an ideal combination of mountains, comfort and a small village. This home is well kept, and very clean!
The glorious master suite is spacious, with a king size bed, a creek view couch, and a luxurious 1 person soaking tub on the deck, (available June 15 - Aug 31, swim suit advised). The master bedroom has the sound of the creek coming in it's many windows. It is very private with its own yard and a 3/4 bath. It has fishing just a few steps away and a gorgeous mtn view from the bed!
The other 2 bedrooms each have a queen size bed. One room has a play loft in it, (the ladder is vertical and not advised for small children). The other room has its own sink. Both bedrooms share the main 3/4 bath of the house. This bathroom is small, but does have a spacious tiled shower. This is a great house !!
We have a 5 nite minimum stay , and from June 13 - August 22 we have a 7 nite minimum. Winter use has a 6 night minimum. Remember, we have a no pets/smoking policy. Winter use is non motorized only. (I own a Polaris 800, its just a super quiet town in winter.) thanks !!
If you need another bedroom, our fantastic one room Cabin, the Mountain Bluebell, (vrbo #354935), is only a 30 sec walk away. It sits in a secluded, creekside location with it's deck right over the water! It has a queen bed, a kitchenette with a single burner electric stovetop, a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and apartment size refrigerator. There is a 'full+' bath in the cabin with both a shower, and a fabulous deep soaking tub w/hand held spray. It has a love seat, and a small dining table. This cabin also has one of the best views in the valley!! What a place to explore Yellowstone from !! (That is, if you can force yourself to leave the deck)
Our family's vacation homes are situated in the beautiful Silvergate valley, less than a mile from Yellowstone Park, and only a few hundred yards from Wyoming's Absaroka Wilderness Area. Our location gives our guests the opportunity to walk to the town park, walk to 4 different creeks with waterfalls in less than 1/2 hour, fish from the property, and yet be seconds from great food and gift shops! The hiking trail into Yellowstone Park from the cabins is amazing !! After mountain run-off we have a great sandy beach on the property!
The region provides enough variety for weeks of adventure. You will find another collection of restaurants, gift shops, and a larger general store just three miles down the road in the small, 1880's mining town of Cooke City. Some day trips include driving over the amazing Beartooth Pass, described by Charles Kuralt as 'the most scenic drive in America'! Numerous lakes provide great car picnicking, or plan to reach Red Lodge for a game of golf! An hour drive to the West takes you to Mammoth, the park headquarters. A drive through Sunlight Basin to Cody, Wyoming, (80 miles), is a must. Every night Cody offers its professional rodeo with great kids events. Also try the museum, golfing or excellent whitewater rafting in the Shoshone Canyon (ask specifically for the canyon).
We're confident that you'll enjoy the mountain experience of a lifetime in any of our homes! You can unwind and enjoy nature, float the Yellowstone river, relax in some hot springs, or challenge yourself to new heights. It's all here, and we'll do our best to show you some big, Western hospitality! We will start taking reservations for the 2017 season in October. Remember we have a 5 nite minimum, and in High Season, a 7 nite minimum with Saturday turnovers. See you soon!

The perfect mountain home, in the perfect setting! Inspiring! Please also see our vrbo #352153 & vrbo #354935
John, Kate and Emily Mickus live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Northeast Entrance and the Beartooth Mountains have been their favorite place to recreate for decades! 'We just love this area, its like going on a remote backcountry trip but still having some great amenities and the comfort of home!' John's parents purchased the property in 1975 and have created a spectacular combo of vintage log homes and modern comforts.
Combine this with the amazing creekside location in the Yellowstone ecosystem, and you have a vacation to remember! We're sure you will be impressed with the wildlife, mountains, and especially the beauty of our property. We look forward to hosting your family!
John and Kate Mickus purchased this house in 1975
Because this is the center of the best wildlife ecosystem in the country. It is cool in the summer, and you won't find crowds here!
You'll enjoy our family's personal touch. We take excellent care of our homes, and provide you with all of the comforts you'll need.
If we could have stayed forever we would! My 11 year old called it homely on the first day and that is a very apt description .....massively comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen, games for the children, the creek, tub and sauna! The deck is amazing and the view stunning. Everyone relaxes and life is good. The cabin is secluded but just a mile from the entrance to Yellowstone in the sleepy but friendly village of Silver Gate. 1 minutes walk from a pleasant restaurant and a couple of shops where you can rent a scope to watch the animals (which are close to the North East entrance) and pick up ice cream, souvenirs and bear spray! Book this property!!!! This is the best property we have ever stayed in for the past 20 years!
Dieses Haus ist ein Traum. Direkt am Fluss gelegen mit einer wunderbaren Terrasse. Können wir sehr empfehlen.
This home is wonderful. It has everything you need to enjoy a week in the mountains. The week we came the president closed the park but the area is so beautiful that we didn't miss much. John, the home owner told us places to visit and we had a blast. It snowed and we made snow Angeles, sledded off the front yard, had animals visit us! A beautiful fox, a buffalo, a bear and chipmunks all stopped by the yard. Movies and games are available for the evening or you can just sit by the fire and enjoy your family. Thanks so much John and Kate, you will always be a part of our memories in Cooke MT
The location is perfect. About a mile from the northeast entrance so very close to the Lamar valley. Very clean and well appointed. Owners are very easy to deal with. Perry the property manager is helpful and friendly. Great little trout stream out the back door. Awe inspiring views. Great wood burning fireplace. A gem all around. Will be back.
This cabin in Silvergate, MT was perfect for our family get together this summer. The location couldn't have been more ideal - a mile from the Northeast Yellowstone park entrance, with easy access to Lamar Valley and many other beautiful areas of the Park with great wildlife spotting. The owners were helpful and kind, and the caretakers had great local suggestions during our visit.
After a day at the park, we loved sitting on the quiet back porch in the sunshine overlooking the creek and looking for mountain goats on the range (you can rent scopes from the General Store across the street). The amenities in the cabin were just what we needed for a relaxing vacation - comfortable beds, a fireplace for chilly evenings, outside campfire for s'mores, cooking basics, and a sunroom and dining table overlooking the creek. Who needs TV & cable when you have all this beauty around you (although we did enjoy bringing DVDs for a few evenings).
The friendly, small town (don't miss breakfast at the Log Cabin Cafe) was an extra bonus. We loved our stay, and highly recommend this cabin for 2 - 3 couples or a family.
Best accommodations we have found int the area after 34 years of annual visits. The site of this home is particularly lovely.
Total Relaxation and Comfort! The setting of our acreage is one of a kind. We're in a small mountain town, yet you can enjoy Big views, the sound of the creek, mature trees, lots of sunshine, and amazing wildlife. Many pristine hikes leave from our property, yet you can walk less than a minute to 2 general stores and the famous Log Cabin Cafe! Cooke City is only 3 miles up the highway, or take the dirt back road! Lots to do and see! Easy and beautiful hiking trail along creek into Yellowstone's serenity! This is the most wild and scenic part of the United States!
