Description

San Miniato Apartment

The apartment has two double bedrooms and two bathrooms. The surface is 84 square meters and the ceiling, 4 meters high, is made of the original wooden beams. Four large windows overlook Via dei Servi, offering impressive views of Brunelleschi's Dome.

The decor is modern and classic, many items are authentic pieces of Italian and international design: like Master Bedroom walnut furniture, modern interpretation of the classic Tuscan style created by the famous Italian architect Michelucci. The walls are decorated with English engravings and oil paintings. In particular, there are two large paintings depicting San Miniato, a small medieval town between Florence and Pisa, which is native to the family property, hence the name of the apartment.

About the property

Casa dè Biffi - Second Floor

ABSTRACT

The owners, Eleonora and her husband, have lived here for many years; this wide and prestigious true ancient florentine property still contains authentic furniture and paintings from the family, so offering to the guests a real life experience in Florence as if they were authentic florentine citizens for a while.

It is suited with all modern functionalities, located in the inner core of Florence at very few steps from the Dome, close to any other attraction.

Eleonora personally keeps in touch with the guests and welcomes them at the arrival.

DESCRIPTION

The property is located in Via dei Servi, one of the most characteristic and picturesque streets of Florence, between Piazza Duomo and Piazza SS Annunziata, two of the most beautiful squares in Florence. It is placed at the beginning of the street a few steps from the Cathedral, in the pedestrian area surrounding the Cathedral and the inner historic core of the city. The main points of artistic interest are very close to Via dei Servi and within walking distance, as well as the Railway Station.

The property covers the entire second floor of the Casa dè Biffi, and consists of two apartments: the largest called 'San Miniato' has 2 double bedrooms and two bathrooms, and sleeps up to 6 people; the second called 'Il Battistero' has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom, and can accommodate up to 3 people (any photo is labeled below with the apartment name it is referred to). The second floor, which is the third in the American classification, is easily accessible with an elevator that is very useful both for people both to transport the suitcases. The building dates back to the Renaissance period and has been renovated in recent years while preserving the original elements of the old houses of the Florentine Renaissance.

Catalogue Bargellini-Guarnieri describes the palace as a simple one but complete with 'delicate frames' in front. It has been made over the oldest houses belonging to the family Tedaldi, and in the mid-sixteenth century belonged to the Florentine family Biffi, hence its name 'Casa dè Biffi'. Later the building was owned by the family Pagani. At the level of the second floor, the facade is decorated with a family crest, probably coming from the Pagani family.

The Apartment San Miniato is available since March 2013; The Apartment Il Battistero has recently been completely renovated and refurbished, and is now available from March 2015.

About Eleonora Massa

I was born and grew up in Tuscany, where I lived and worked mostly. Now, after having lived in this property for many years together with my husband, we live in a small town very close to Florence, at a few kilometers from the city.

Eleonora Massa purchased this apartment in 1990

Why Eleonora Massa chose Historic Center

I ever wanted to own a beautiful house in Florence very close to the Cathedral and the Dome. In 1990, my husband and I have had the possibility to buy the two apartments which are part of this property; we lived there until 2008. In 2012, we have chosen to offer also to people coming from outside Florence, even if only for short periods, the possibility to share the special experience to live in the monumental core of Florence, at very few steps from the Cathedral and the Dome.

What makes this apartment unique

The property location is very exclusive. Moreover, the rooms and the space overall are comfortable and wide. A recent faithful building renovation allows anyone to live here with all the modern comfort and functionalities, concurrently with the ancient time fascination which this place keeps. All furniture and decoration in both the apartments derive from the personal family holdings, so our guests may live for a period in an authentic italian house.

Perfect Central Location for Exploring Florence

  • 5 of 5

San Miniato was a prefect resting place for our family of four during our 4 nights in Florence as the apartment met all of the features listed in the description. Eleonora was a great host greeting us at the apartment after arriving late due to airport delays. She explained everything in the apartment and gave us great tips for suggested restaurants, gelato locations, grocery shopping and alternative sites to see.

The apartment location is literally steps from Il Duomo and allowed us to walk to all of the major sites around the city in less than 15 minutes, in most cases. It is also a short walk to the train station for out of town excursions. The air conditioning is also a nice feature after a hot day of walking.

We especially enjoyed the sandwiches at Panini Toscani, just around the corner from the apartment, and Rivareno Gelato, which is also very close. For a slightly more expensive meal, Acqua Al 2 Restuarnt was very good - our daughter, who is a vegetarian, especially enjoyed the ravioli with avocado and pomegrates. For out of town trips, the Tuscany Bike Tour was very good taking us through the Tuscany countryside for a day and enjoying a good lunch outside overlooking the vineyards. Watching the sun set at either near Ponte Vecchio or Piazza Michelangelo are also recommended.

Florence is wonderful and I would highly recommend San Miniato for your stay.

Perfect location and Hostess.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with another couple stayed in the San Miniato apartment from June 24-July 1, 2017. It was absolutely perfect even before we arrived. Eleonora kept in contact with me asking if there was anything we needed help with, and even helped us arrange a garage to park the car in that we were renting for 2 days of our trip. If you are staying in Florence for your entire trip, you won't need a car, we decided to go to Siena, Pisa and Lucca. She did everything possible to accommodate our earlier arrival, then took her time explaining the functions of the apartment as well as suggesting things to see and restaurants we may want to visit, even marking on a map several locations. The kitchen was fully equipped, and Eleonora even brought us a wonderful bottle of wine and pasta and sauce. The air conditioning was a real God send. Even though it was in the 90s outside, we would turn it off when we left and keep the doors closed and shades closed, when we would come back, turn it on and it cooled off wonderfully. Having a washer dryer unit in the apartment was so handy, because my husband and I chose the do carry on, so being able to wash clothes was very important to us. The location was incredible, you walk out the door, turn right and you are just steps away from the Duomo, baptistery, Duomo museum, bell tower and easy walking distance to pretty much anything you could want to see. Eleonora even arranged a cab for us to the airport the last day. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Florence. Thank you Eleonora for being such a thoughtful hostess.

Excellent Apartment & Location

  • 5 of 5

Great apartment & location, you can see the Duomo from the windows. We enjoyed our stay in the apartment very much. It was very clean and fully equipped with everything you could wish for. Florence was in the middle of a heat wave whilst we were there so the apartment was a welcome relief after a long day of hot sight seeing. Eleonora, the owner explained the apartment fully and recommended places & sights including Fiesole (a lovely town in the hills). She also left us a welcome gift of typical Floretine pasta & wine which was very enjoyable. We would highly recommend this apartment.
