About Michelle

I was raised in Yosemite N.P. Our home is one of the first homes ever built in Yosemite West. My parents ran it as a former B&B and we have had people from all over the world stay w/ us. I love sharing our home w/ people and families.

Michelle purchased this house in 1973

Why Michelle chose Yosemite National Park

It is one of the largest homes inside Yosemite National Park. It is centrally located and has a lot of space for families and friends to gather and there is plenty of parking.

What makes this house unique

It is a one of a kind home w/ a sunken game room and Saloon. We are the only home in Yosemite West that owns all 7 lots that surround it, giving it more privacy.

On one of the lots we have a outdoor campfire ring. It is like your camping since it is set away from the home and you can view the stars and make s'mores and tell stories around the fire. Our kitchen table can sit up to 16 people and is the heart of the home to gather families and friends around.

Amazing house, amazing experience.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for 2 night with 8 people. Nothing bad to say! Location is great, right in the middle of the park. Everything was very well made when we got there (beds, everything was neat), and everything was very clear. Notes were left to let us know exactly how to work the TV and such, and the kitchen has all the utensils one could need. All the appliances worked very well. Really, the little things is what made this house most enjoyable; the fire pit in the backyard, the amazing decorations, the atmosphere, the pool room, the air fresheners, everything was beautiful. Would definitely 100% recommend.

Tired cabin - high price - low value - lot's of hassles - great location

  • 2 of 5

This cabin was probably a nice unit for the location 20+ years ago, but little, if anything, has been done since then. For the premium pricing they charge the value and comfort are simply not good.

The largest room in the living area has no heat. This game room and bar area is where you'd normally spend a good deal of time with your fellow guests, but it was so cold it was uncomfortable.

We paid a very high cleaning fee that didn't include basic service that you'd expect. We were told that we were responsible for collecting trash from all bathrooms, guest rooms, and kitchen. Then we had to haul it away on our own (with specific written instructions to take it to Yosemite National Park and dump it in their trash bins!). Additionally, we had to remove all bed linens, collect all bath towels and wash towels and kitchen towels, and place them in a laundry room. On top of these hassles, we were told that if any clean dishes were left in the dishwasher we would be penalized. If any of these tasks were not completed perfectly we were told that we would be fined.

This cabin does not have central heating and air conditioning, but rather has gas powered heaters in every room. If you have children under the age of 4 then this cabin is not for you, as they will be endangered. Signs are all over the cabin that these are hot, and believe me they are.

Before showing up we asked if firewood for fireplaces and outside fire ring were available. We were told yes, but we were to bring lots of our own kindling and newspaper.

Kitchen has an electric oven that is probably 30 + years old. There are no cabinets above the countertop, so all plates and glassware are fairly low, and they're hard to see and access. For all pots pans and other cookware everything is thrown into one large cabinet rather hap haphazardly. Very disorganized and all of the cookware is quite old. Inadequate amount of silverware.

Bedrooms and bathrooms are fine.

In summary, and this is from a family that rents cabins all around California, you'd be best taking a pass on this one, as it's tired, and the cleaning hassles are not worth it.

Owner's Response: Dear Anonymous, It’s unfortunate that I didn’t hear about any issues you we’re having during your stay, especially since I provided you with my personal cell phone number and the contact information for our maintenance man, who, made a special effort to snow plow our driveway, before several others on his list, at your request, even though you showed up late. I’m sorry that you feel so angry and unsatisfied. Clearly the new hardwood floors, carpeting, retiled bathrooms, wood lined billiard room, 10’ long bar cut from a single slab of 5” thick sugar pine, and brand new flat screen tv, two living rooms, and 900 sq ft kitchen that seats 18 and faces a sunset view, in our family’s home was not to your liking. No, I couldn’t agree to your requests for a $500 discount, or your requests to drop the cleaning fee paid directly to our maid, or your request to remove the Homeaway service fee through their booking service. I also accommodated your request for an early check-in, and then again for a late check-out. In addition, I fielded multiple questions about where to go, when to go, and what to expect on your visit over a dozen phone calls and 16 emails. As I mentioned after your repeated demands for discounts, and after the declined transactions of your credit card, there are plenty of other accommodations in the area that would meet basic needs for the price you wanted to pay. The cast iron fireplace in the gameroom between the bar and pool table generates plenty of heat, but it’s usually not necessary when main fireplace is heating in the kitchen or the propane heaters are on. When we rent other people's homes we are happy to show some basic courtesy and tidy up before we leave. Like the majority of all the homes in Yosemite West, we don’t have central air conditioning. Living at 5,500 foot elevation, it’s never been necessary as the evenings are cool in the Sierra Mountains. The propane heaters in the bedrooms are just like the wall units in the other 165 houses in the subdivision. The house has a full cord of hardwood conveniently stacked under a covered porch directly in reach of the front door. We suggested bringing additional fire starter if you had difficulty lighting the wood burning stove. My father designed the kitchen specifically for thanksgiving and built a huge center island with 40 sq ft of surrounding countertops. Over head cabintes were not added so family and friends could cook and eat bringing people together.

Great home for family time!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here during Christmas 2017. We were there for a cousins reunion - several families with kids of various ages . The adults loved the pool table room/bar room. The kids loved that there enough room to run around and play in different corners. Plenty of board games. We loved the large kitchen and dinning table. The house was old and quirky but everything was functional and appliances in good conditions. There was no WiFi and no cell signal - which we were not prepared for but turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we truly had a family time. The main attraction with the Yosemite Park are all within 30-40mins making it a great house to stay while visiting one of the best national parks and have good time with family/friends.

Awesome house for a big group!

  • 5 of 5

The house has everything we needed for a long weekend with friends. We loved having big meals in the spacious kitchen, relaxing with a drink in the bar while playing pool, and having some quiet time in the backyard.

Will definitely look to rent this house again.

Amazing Home for Everything!!!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVE this place! It is enormous and can fit a big group with no problems. Has plenty of bathrooms, beds, and a HUGE kitchen and table! (our favorite part!)

Very clean and has all the amenities. No need to worry about bringing anything. There is a wonderful hammock to rest in after a busy day in the valley, and a large campfire setting for a star filled evening!

I highly recommend you stay here, you will love it as much as we do!!
