Beautiful place, lovely staff. Spectacular views and the bats are so cool!!
Spectacular snorkeling right off out beach at the split rock! Gracies road kitchen is amazing food. Some internet difficulties. We absolutely loved it! We happily stay again!
Thank you Katherine, it was a pleasure meeting your group and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope to have you return!
Most Relaxing Vacation Ever!
We spent a week at The House of Bamboo and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The view is amazing and the sky is constantly changing. We used the pool every day even in the warm rain and at night too. We soaked up the sunset one night from the pool and then enjoyed watching the birds and the bats flying until the stars came out. The house is well appointed with everything we needed. We really enjoyed cooking our own meals using fresh produce we bought on Saturday from the Savusavu market. I tried a rice cooker for the first time since it is there! We used the provided coffee and sugar every morning. The bed is very comfortable although we ended up not needing the comforter as it is plenty warm this time of year. There were no issues with hot water and the ability to do laundry at the house makes it possible to travel to Savusavu with only a few changes of clothes!
We loved spending time talking with Jolene and learning about Fiji and the local area. Her advice and suggestions were invaluable. We walked the beach past the Cousteau resort at low tide, used the provided snorkeling equipment to look at the fish and coral in the bay, took the kayaks out around the small islands south of the resort, and rented a car from Budget for a day and drove over to Labasa and back.
We strongly recommend The House of Bamboo for a lovely vacation spot. Don't forget the sunscreen - the sun is powerful in Fiji!!!
Thank you very much Gretchen and Glendon. It was such a pleasure meeting you both. Vinaka for being such clean, considerate, friendly and easy going guests, exactly the kind of guests we love! We would recommend you to all your future hosts and hope the future brings you back to Savusavu.
It's hard to put into words how beautiful this property is and how amazing our vacation was. The view is breathtaking and the hospitality of Bruce, Jen & Jolene ... well let's say we were never treated like strangers but rather like old friends coming for a visit.
The stairs are a bit daunting ... you will be thankful for the seat at the top as most times we collapsed right there to catch our breath! The mosquitoes were aplenty (bug spray is a MUST), and getting/keeping hot water running was a challenge. But, I wouldn't trade a thing to stay in a resort. It was so cool to go to town, visiting various markets for our supplies. The people in Savasavu are welcoming and friendly ... one couple befriending us and inviting us to dinner in their home our 2nd night there. A whole different world than what we are used to!!!
An outing on Bruce's catamaran is a must! It was one of the highlights of our trip. If a visit to Fiji is not on your bucket list, add it ... you will have the time of your life!!!
Picture perfect. The pool and house were even better than the pictures. Over the top views.
Bamboo House was worth every step to get there. Bruce and Joliene were responsive and so gracious. This was the start of a year long trip but it will be hard to top Bamboo House. The House was well equipped and the outside space for dining and relaxing was used at all times of day and night. Be sure to have a massage under the bure.
A pleasure meeting you all Bonnie! We would not hesitate to recommend you to future hosts as you were all friendly, considerate, tidy and with excellent communication. All the best for the remainder of your trip!
Fabulous location, beautiful setting, views to die for!
Our first stop before traveling to another Fiji destination for our Daughter's wedding!
Jolene was the perfect Host for us! Thanks for everything!
(PS, they are not kidding about the stairs! Good work out!)
Vinaka vaka levu Rina, it was a pleasure having you and Alan stay with us. Hope to see you back in Savusavu real soon!!
Beautiful home, unique location, lovely people
A really nice vacation home, spacious, functional, tastefully decorated with a few interesting art objects from India (and Africa?). The view of Savusavu Bay is a never ending spectacle, changing with the time of the day (and night), the weather, the tide. Up at the house, you live in complete privacy, yet the owner, Bruce, and the property manager, Jolene, who go out of their way to help when needed, can often be found in person around their office, down near the road. The same is true for their two friendly Fijian workmen, Tuks and Wise; they can also tell you a lot about life of Fijians in the jungle which will soon be forgotten. -- If the mosquitoes bother you around the house, you can escape into the pool. The windows of the house are protected with insect screens and can be left open day and night. -- Don't miss snorkeling, paddleboarding or kayaking right out front. -- Bruce's Sekawa River Tour was an unforgettable experience, with sailing over the Bay on his catamaran in wind and rain, and paddling on the quiet river along the virgin tropical jungle. -- Would have loved to stay at this place, with these people, for longer than ten days.
Vinaka vaka levu Ruedi. It was such a pleasure to have you, Renata and Alex stay with us. Extremely friendly, tidy, respectful and considerate guests, we recommend you 100% and hope that you will return to Fiji. Loloma from all of us at Pirate's Paradise!!
The House of Bamboo is located in an area known as Lesiaceva, a short stroll from Cousteau Resort and approximately 6 kms from the township of Savusavu. Set on the tranquil shores of Savusavu Bay. On Fiji's second largest Island, Vanua Levu. This area is known as The Hidden Paradise, cliche-ish but true. Here you will experience true Fijian hospitality and really feel like you are somewhere off the well trod tourist trails. Some say that Savusavu is reminiscent of parts of Hawaii well before it became what it is today. Savusavu can be accessed by air from Nadi with Pacific Sun. There are also regular ferries from Lautoka and Suva. Once you arrive you can relax and unwind or arrange for fishing, diving or sailing charters. Maybe even visit the local Black Pearl farm or just laze around and rediscover the art of relaxation. Airport pick up from Savusavu airport is included in your tariff, as is a provision starter pack and free local calls and wifi broadband internet access.
Other Activities: lazing in your own hammock, sleeping in an outdoor bure or just taking a dip in the pool.
