The house is great. Two bedrooms, each room with en suite bathroom. Well-equipped kitchen, living room and enclosed balcony where we ate breakfast. A lovely garden and stunning views. David, our host, lives in a nearby house. He helped us with everything we needed and gave us complete privacy. It is highly recommended!
We spent a delightful fortnight at the Mason Mireille in September of 2014. We shared this lovely, recently renovated, two-bedroom cottage with another couple. Each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped and includes a dishwasher and washing machine. The cottage offers sufficient space to provide everyone his or her own secluded refuge for reading or contemplation. The stay was memorable, and gave us a nice opportunity to experience a taste of rural Dordogne life. The village of St. Pompon is conveniently located with respect to many of the areas of interest in the region. The gite is sufficiently close to the village to render the village readily accessible, yet removed enough to insure that the sounds of the village do no obtrude upon one's escape into the countryside. David, the owner/host, was ever-accessible, but never intrusive. He was a great source of recommendations of things to be seen and places to dine. Please do not fail to have a meal (reservations are advisable) at the wonderful family-run L'Envie des Mets restaurant in the village of St. Pompon. The owners are very welcoming, and the products of their kitchen are delicious.
We were very happy with this little cottage nestled into the oak trees and suffused each morning by a soft golden light. My wife and I will certainly stay here again if our travels again bring us to this lovely part of France. Highly recommended.
My wife and I spent two weeks at Maison Mireille in mid September with a couple of close friends. Our time there was totally magical. We found the gite to be very nicely decorated and well out-fitted with all the modern conveniences, the location peaceful and lovely, and the area beautiful and interesting. The cottage even had three dining areas including a lovely sun porch for breakfasts over looking a wonderful valley and a charming side yard, where we spent most of our evenings enjoying good food and camaraderie. David, the owner and host, was most welcoming and helpful but never intrusive. The little town of St. Pompon, just down the hill, had a superb little family-run restaurant named l'Envie des Mets that we enjoyed more than once in addition to great dining options and country markets at other near-by towns. There is lots to see in the area and many lovely little country lanes to enjoy. Our stay at Maison Mireille was perfect in all respects, and we hope to return someday.

We rented the Maison Mireille for 2 weeks in April of 2011 - we are a family with one small child. The house is gorgeous, the pictures just do not do it justice. It's a very old house that is a part of a larger estate just outside the St. Pompont village. The house was beautifully and meticulously reconstructed by the owners themselves. Everything exudes quality - from the floors, furniture, baths and towels - all was brand new and sparkingly clean. Great heating, kitched fitted with everything you would need to cook a great meal with what you'd bought from wonderful markets in Sarlat or St. Cyprien. When you arrive - you will have a welcome pack of some bread, eggs tomatoes et c. to get you going. The outside garden is great for reading in the sun and quiet.David and Linda are extremely nice and will help you with advice, but are very inobtrusive. The St. Pompont village has a small weekly market, cafe, a restaurant and a farmacy. Don't miss the Petit Paris restaurant in Daglan and the little patisserie in Castlenaud. In short - a perfect vacation in a great picturesque and extremely quiet gourmet area of France. And - it's a terrific value. Maison Mireille is the larger house that is great for a family and there's a second smaller rental on the estate good for a couple or a small family. We loved the place so much that we rented it for next year's vacation before we left - and trust us, after you stay there - you will too :-)
A big thank you to Linda and David for sharing their little piece of paradise with us for seven days in May 2011. This charming Gite is well located on a beautiful country meadow overlooking the lush countryside. The cows, chickens and horse all added to the character of this country property. A truly special house, which definitely reflects Linda and David's attention to detail as well as their love and care. Their place is so cozy and relaxing with all the amenities such as a gas barbeque, washing machine, dishwasher, outdoor furniture with a sun umbrella, as well as comfortable furnishings and added touches that made this cottage a home away from home. It was like staying at a friend's house instead of a rental property. We especially enjoyed the sunroom. Perfect place to linger over dinner or cuddle up on the couch with a good book. Linda and David were so welcoming. A tasty bottle of french wine was presented to us on our arrival. A most appreciated gesture after our long drive. Linda and David were both extremely helpful in recommending driving tours so we could experience this gorgeous region of Dordogne. The quaint village of St Pompon is only a short stroll down the country road - a perfect spot to enjoy a cold beer at an outside table or take in the farm market. We were extremely lucky to find Maison Mireille and would highly recommend this special place to anyone who really wants to experience Southern France. We absolutely loved it.
The Dordogne is part of the Aquitaine region in the south west of France and is famed for its wonderful wooded valleys, glorious rivers and more than 1000 fairy tale castles. The area is steeped in history with many delightful medieval town and villages. The bastide villages and the history of the hundred year war are of particular interest. Visitors come from all over the world to see cave paintings in the prehistory settlement at Les Eyzies and Lascaux and to visit the many other undergroung caverns and caves in the region. The Bergerac area is renowned for its wines as is Cahors in the neighbouring Lot.Both offer wine tastings and tours.Nearer to home the Domme vineyard is building a sound reputation for the qaulity of its wines. For foodies there is an endless choice of wonderful restaurants offering such regional fare as truffles, foiegras, duck, wallnuts, cassoulet, cepes and much more. The whole area is rich in arts and crafts with many interesting galleries and studios. For retail therapy the cities of Bergerac Brive Cahors and Perigueux are all within reach. Other Activities: Hot air ballooning, canoeing, kayaking, boat trips, gliding.
