Hau'ula and the surrounding area is often likened to 'old Hawaii,' still representing what Hawaii once was. Instead of large malls and chain restaurants (i.e. Waikiki), the area has family-owned gift shops, unique little restaurants, and a pace of life that many envision when planning their Hawaii trips.

Highlights of the area:

(1) five minute drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Hawaii's #1 tourist attraction

(2) many great hikes (some with waterfalls) in the mountains seen in our aerial pictures

(3) lush green foliage and mountainsides, drawing comparisons with Maui

(4) good, local people offering a glimpse into 'true' Hawaii living: a truly authentic Hawaiian experience

(5) twelve minute drive to Turtle Bay Resort, and their golf courses, restaurants, bars, massages, helicopter rides, etc.

(6) minutes to good surfing spots, and only about 20 minutes to famous big-wave spots like Pipeline and Sunset Beach

(7) quiet, tranquil, peaceful...the best way to describe Hau'ula!

Other Activities: kayaking, boogie boarding, beachcombing, shelling, horseshoes

This Really Is Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My family of four stayed here for a week and honestly the only bad part was leaving! The house had everything we needed and more...we wished we had seen what was in the kitchen before we grocery shopped. The location was perfect...five minutes to the Polynesian Cultural Center which we really enjoyed (went two days) 5 - 10 minutes to the grocery and many restaurants. If you feel the need to leave your own private beach, there are loads of beautiful beaches within 20 minutes, Hale'iwa (with loads of north shore shopping was about 30-40 minutes away and Waikiki was a little over an hour away.

There was another family in the upstairs unit, but we barely saw them. It seemed one of us was gone exploring each day. And the owners were off island but Trudy (Shawn's MIL) was house sitting and she was wonderful. We really only saw her in the morning as she cleaned and straightened up, but she was a pleasure to talk to!

I did loads of research on other properties in the area. We struggled with committing because of the no refunds policy, but I've gotta say we picked the perfect house! We wouldn't look anywhere else if we were returning to Oahu!

Wonderful beachfront location

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a fabulous four days at the BHIP (Beach House in Paradise.) The only downside was that it wasn't a long enough stay. This is a spot that we would like to return to each visit to Hawaii. It was idyllic. The home was very comfortable (everything worked including the wifi) -- the AC units in the bedrooms were much appreciated, the beds were comfortable (also much appreciated) and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking meals at home. The beach is very private, very sandy (no coral reefs to get cut on) and very calm for daily swims. I hesitate to rate this home so highly for fear that we'll never see another opening on the calendar but it's an amazing place that I truly appreciate having had the opportunity to experience. Mahalo!

Outdated and Waste of Money!!!

  • 1 of 5

Unfortunately when we arrived we were very disappointed with the furnishings as they were old and very worn. Not at all like the photos depict. We felt the beds and they were very hard. We did not end up staying even one night in the house. For the short time we were there the owner was hanging out working on stuff which I feel is very intrusive and awkward. Please keep in mind that there is no shopping or places near by to eat. As we slowed down to find the address one of the locals screamed profanity at us for driving too slow. I contacted the owners and asked them for a partial refund because it was quite expensive to end up paying for two places and we didn't even stay one night. Of course they denied. If you are staying in Oahu I recommend a complete different location and definitely a different house. Don't be fooled by such great reviews like we were. If you are looking for quality and comfort this is not it. Thanks for letting me share my costly experience. Hope this helps!

This was a definite "do-again" rental!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful rental property! The kitchen was well stocked, the beds very comfy, it had wi-fi and air conditioning in the bedrooms.

Plenty of hot water for multiple showers was a plus. The very best part of this rental is that you are right on the beach. Not walking distance, but literally 4 steps off of the lanai and there you are!

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets....we had 2 monk seals that parked themselves 100 feet from our rental, crabs galore and we saw dolphins and a whale spout right from the kitchen dining area.

We used the on site kayak and other beach toys, way fun! But just sitting outside with the trade winds blowing and the sound of the waves lapping up on the beach is enough to soothe any troubled soul! Very healing!

We were there for 11 days, and on the day of departure, it was almost painful to go. The owner, Jessica was on site and catered to every need and was so friendly. She is constantly repairing and updating things. While we were there she was power washing and repainting concrete. You can tell there is a lot of pride that goes into the upkeep of the property.

Do yourself a favor and find out what the "real" Hawaii aloha feeling is about.....not the touristy Waikiki version. You will be glad you booked this property.......

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This property is exactly as described. The beach front location was wonderful even on a North Shore winter. Whales, turtles and best of all Honeygirl the Monk seal who visits the beach often. Jessica was great, there when needed and invisible most of the time. A couple little things need attention, like the kitchen light/fan doesn't work and kitchen screen door sticks badly. Renting the top and bottom for 5 adults worked perfect for us.

Everything we need it was right there in the home. We were staying there because we had a wedding at one of the homes in the area. The location really work for us and it was neat to see the difference of the difference of how laid-back and quiet it was compared to going into the city. The home had the beautiful ocean right at your footsteps and you can fall asleep to the waves easily. The home is clean well maintained and made a quick visit like a mini vacation. Definitely will consider staying there again as well as recommending it to family and friends. Only thing is is that we rent at the bottom unit where the occupants on top with sometimes walk around pretty hard however we don't plan on being inside which you shouldn't in the place like Hawaii it's bearable. Overall, like I said a great stay!!!
