Casa Mirabello is a secluded villa in the heart of the tranquil Abruzzo countryside. It is the perfect getaway for anyone wanting to just relax and get away from it all, or for those who want a more active walking or cycling holiday.
The house sleeps 10 comfortably, has a private salt water swimming pool and free Wi-fi. It is very well appointed, with a fully fitted kitchen that has everything you could possibly need from cookery books and cooking utensils - to help you prepare dishes from the delicious local produce whilst sampling a glass of the local wine - to a dishwasher, microwave, American-style fridge, oven and hob.
The TV room has a TV and DVD player, as well as great selection of books. This room also has a very comfortable sofa bed, which takes the number of beds available to 10. There is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble drier, which also acts as a third bathroom with shower, toilet and bidet.
The main bedroom is ensuite, with the family bathroom (which has a free standing shower and bath) serving the other three bedrooms. All the bedrooms are large and airy and each is has a fan to help you keep cool during the summer months. If you have small children, there is a cot and a highchair available.
The living room has two sets of French windows overlooking the terrace and views of the rolling hills. It has two sofas, two armchairs, a wood burning stove and a dining table that seats 10.
The pergola shaded terrace, which runs the length of the house, is great for alfresco dining. There is a traditional BBQ on the terrace to the south of the house, outside the kitchen, which has another table and chairs, as well as an umbrella for shade and there is a selection of games to keep all ages occupied.
We supply bed clothes, towels (both for bathing and the pool) and a hair dryer for each room.
Despite its secluded position, the house is only a 10 minute drive from the local village of Montebello di Bertona, which has a selections of shops, including a mini market, butcher, baker, post office with cash machine, pharmacy and several bars. Penne, the nearest big town, is only a 10 to 15 minute drive and has a good selection of restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
The nearest beach is at Pescara, a 40 minute drive away and there are a wealth of other beautiful beaches to explore within an hour. We are 15 minutes from the stunning Abruzzo National Park, which is fantastic for walking and cycling.
We're Sarah and Giles. We both work in the entertainment technology industry. Sarah owns a PR company working mainly for manufacturers of products that are used for concerts, theatre productions, installations into concert halls, etc. Giles is an LED screen tech. He puts together the big TVs you see at gigs, so he's out on tour a lot of the time.
Sarah Conte purchased this villa in 2007
We bought Casa Mirabello because we wanted an investment we could have some fun with. We saw Abruzzo on A Place In The Sun, decided to go out and have a look and completely fell in love with the area and the people.
We saw many, many houses, but I kept dragging Giles back to one we saw on only our second visit. I get a feeling about places, and although the house was a complete wreck, it was nestled into the side of the hill in the most glorious position and I fell in love with it.
A year later, and after much deliberation, we bought it and started the process of doing it up.
It took us two years - it really was just a shell - to get the basics done and another two to get it how we wanted it. We've spent many happy hours deciding what to do and finding the right bits of furniture. We were blessed with meeting our very good friend Giuseppe early on in the process, because he has helped, and continues to help us immeasurably! We couldn't have done it without him.
We love the house, the area and the good friends we've made there. We hope you'll enjoy staying there just as much as we do.
Casa Mirabello is secluded, but still close to everything you need - a car is essential though.
It's a great place to hang out with your friends, but there's plenty to go and see to keep you occupied.
We've equipped it in the same way we have our house in the UK, so you shouldn't want for anything.
We've installed a salt water pool, so it's kind to skin and eyes of all ages.
The local food and wine is exceptional. There are a couple of restaurants close by - details are in the house - that are as good as any Michelin star restaurants I've been to and nowhere near as expensive! You can also eat very well on a budget, so there's something for everyone.
We're close the the Abruzzo National Park, which is great for walking and cycling, but you can also do that straight from the house. The hills are a challenge, but I love cycling or running up to Montebello and I love coming down even more!
Our family stayed for three weeks at Casa Mirabello in the Abruzzi countryside. The house was everything as described but more so in terms of its spaciousness, charm and comforts. Owners provided house cleaning and laundry of all linens and towels and this was greatly appreciated. It is not possible to describe the tranquil natural beauty of the setting, views and outdoor eating areas. The pool is lots of fun, very refreshing. With beautiful beaches along the Adriatic for a swim, small medieval villages to visit and trips through the Gran Sasso, one can not ask for more interesting outings all nearby. Although secluded and very rural, this lovingly restored country farmhouse provides opportunities to relax, have fun and thoroughly enjoy a very special and unique province in the wonderfully diverse and beautiful country of Italy. Sarah is a terrific person to rent from, helpful in every way. We loved our time at this villa and would love to return.
