We are a family of 6 - we have so close connections to Hellnar as Berglind used to stay there as a child with her grandparents.
Berglind purchased this cottage in 2014
It´s the best one you can have in Iceland.
National Park- Great nature outdoors.
A family of four (2 adults + 2 teenagers), we spent one week at this cottage which is approx. 2 hours from Reykjavik and 2.75 hours from Keflavik Airport. The accommodation (open plan + a (very!) small toilet / shower-room + hallway downstairs, and three separate bedrooms upstairs) was modern, clean, tastefully furnished, well equipped and in immaculate condition. Some points which potential visitors may find useful to know: (i) the rental conditions call for the property to be thoroughly cleaned (included changing the linen on the beds) before departure (it would be useful to have this called out before booking); (ii) the stairs are steep and could be difficult for less physically able people to manage; (iii) the tv / dvd player is located on the upper floor on the area immediately outside the bedrooms; (iv) semi-detached, the cottage is one of several properties within close proximity, in a small development. The house is ideally located beside some beautiful coastline with 2 good cafés within a short walk. The surrounding countryside (including the national park) is - like everywhere else in Iceland - stunning! Supermarket shopping is some 30 minutes away (if travelling from Reykjavik it is recommended to stock up at Borgarnes, en-route). Gestur's communication, before our holiday, was generally very prompt and, on the one occasion that we really needed to speak to him whilst on-site, he again responded quickly and was very helpful. We took advantage of his offer to hire us a car - an arrangement which worked well. In summary, we had a fantastic holiday and found this house a good base from which to explore this area of Western Iceland.
We stayed at Cottage Nr. 6 for 4 nights and we just loved it!
The house was spotless clean and is very nice decorated! All the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The owner were very helpful, whenever we needed it. They even recommended us a car rental company, where we found a great deal.
The landscape outside of the cottage is incredible!
The Snaefellness Peninsula is our favorite place in Iceland. You can feel the energy of the Snaefellskökull and we even saw the Northern Lights for two nights! - a dream came true!
There are so many things, that you can explore!
I can highly recommend this cottage to everyone, who wants to have quiet nights with a lot of stars and an awesome landscape around you!
We already miss this place and will surely come back one day!
We stayed five nights in this very well equipped, warm, cosy house with a view to Snaefell and the sea. We enjoyed the surroundings, autumn colours, the dramatic skies, the basalt formations along the shore, the quiet nights and the morning that the clouds around Mt. Snaefell lifted and the vulcano revealed itself in its full glory.
The house is spacious, and easily accommodate five adults. Furniture is of high quality and there is a good sound system. Ample kitchen essentials are available, so washing the dishes can be delayed to a later moment, for example. In this remote area the agreement that the renters clean the house, wash the bed linen and towels at the end of their stay is understandable, and seems to work fine. It needs some planning, however, if one likes to leave early in the morning.
The stairs to the bedrooms upstairs is indeed steep and requires some coordination. For us it was no problem, but for less mobile persons it might be. The beds are of good quality, and we slept like logs after our full days outdoors.
The owners were very friendly and responded very well to our queries.
We would recommend this holiday house to anyone and would definitely book this house a next time!
We stayed in house no . 6 a few relaxing days with sun , storm and auroras on Snaefellsnes , our favorite region in Iceland .
