Fantastically placed for walking, biking or simply as a restful rural retreat, Bowmont Terrace offers the perfect change of pace, sitting amidst the spectacular scenery of the Cheviot Hills, but just a gentle wander from a country pub after a day in the great outdoors.

The cottage will appeal to a wide range of tastes with its mix of period and contemporary finishes and just a hint of retro style. Bright in summer and cosy in winter, the open plan living space bounces light but with contrasting textures in tweed and wood which soften and warm the space. For relaxation, a toasty woodburner and comfortable sofa is a welcome space to rest weary legs at the end of a busy day.

Stainless steel and free-standing cabinets give the kitchen a fresh, modern look, extending into a pretty walled garden with sun terrace for lazy lunches or an evening barbecue when the weather is right. Upstairs, two well presented bedrooms (one double, one twin) offer flexibility for families or friends looking to holiday together in a tranquil, country location.

First floor

Bedroom one - with 4’ 6” double bed, two side tables, built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers.

Bedroom two - with two 3’ zip and link beds, wardrobe with drawers beneath, dressing table.

Bathroom - bath with shower over, basin, shaver point, WC.


Woodburning stove in the sitting room (initial supply of logs provided).

Electric central heating throughout.

Wifi and mobile coverage

Wifi is available. Mobile reception is available on most networks.

Guest amenities

Bath towels and hand towels are provided for guests along with Arran Aromatics hand soaps and toiletries. A hairdryer is supplied. Beds are made up with Egyptian cotton bed linen and feather duvets and pillows.

Babies and children

A travel cot and high chair are provided.


Up to two well-behaved dogs welcome for an additional fee of £20 per stay (for one or two dogs). Dogs should be kept to the downstairs, uncarpeted areas of the property only and are not permitted on the furniture.


A small, enclosed walled garden with lawned area and terraced seating area. A table and chairs and charcoal barbecue are provided for outside dining.

Secure shed for storage of bicycles, golf clubs etc.


There is on-street parking outside the cottage but no private provision.

Local amenities

The thriving village of Town Yetholm enjoys good local amenities including a post office, an excellent butchers shop, and a village store and tea-room, and for eating-out, there are two excellent pubs on the doorstep - The Plough Hotel on the Main Street, or the Border Hotel in neighbouring Kirk Yetholm (0.8 miles) where you can be assured a warm welcome, cosy open fires and a menu serving the best of local ingredients.

A little further afield guests can enjoy all the amenities of the bustling market town of Kelso (7 miles) with its pretty Flemish style square and rich Georgian and Victorian architecture. You will find plenty of restaurants, pubs and coffee stops to choose from here as well as a fine range of independent shops and a number of large supermarkets.

Activities and attractions

Kirk Yetholm lies at the northern end of Britain's oldest long-distance walk, the Pennine Way, and sits right on the path of St. Cuthbert’s Way for those looking to join its 62 mile journey from Melrose to the sublime Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

You can enjoy perfect walking here with trails and paths to suit all ages and abilities. There are ten walks, all starting from the village which vary in length from 1.5 miles to 9 miles, while the western edge of the Cheviot Hills is beautifully remote and you can spend hours walking or mountain biking in the Bowmont Valley and in the surrounding hills in perfect solitude.

Yetholm Loch is a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve which sits one mile west of Yetholm at the foot of the Cheviot Hills. It is an important site for breeding and wintering wildfowl and a good site for observing otter. Noteable other species include osprey, kingfisher, reed bunting, gadwall, shelduck and blue tailed damselfly. There is a hide on the western side of the loch which offers excellent bird watching opportunities.

As well as outdoor pursuits, Yetholm offers an ideal base for exploring the wider Scottish Borders and north Northumberland.

For sightseeing, the grand stately homes and castles of Floors, Mellerstain, Manderston, Abbotsford and Thirlestane are all within a short half hour drive where the beautiful artworks, rich architectural detailing and scenic grounds and gardens are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

For short breaks, our local events and festivals provide the perfect excuse for friendly get-togethers where you can enjoy National Hunt Racing at Kelso Racecourse, local Antique Fairs and Auctions, the Floors Castle Horse Trials, Point-to-Point Meets, the Borders Book Festival, Walking Festival and Common name just a few!

A half-hour will take you to the wonderful heritage coastline with miles of deserted golden sands perfect for rest or play, while the cultural city of Edinburgh is just an hour’s drive where you can take advantage of events such as the vibrant Edinburgh Fringe Festival, exceptional Jazz and Blues Festival, or simply a day-out exploring the exquisite historical architecture of this beautiful city.
