Stang Korvenn is a traditional Breton long farmhouse or Longere of which the lovely Gite du Vert Rivage forms a 2 bedroomed self contained part. It has been extensively renovated to combine modern living with rustic charm, complete with free Wifi, fully equipped kitchen and brand new shower room with eco-power jets. it is set in 3 acres of secluded wooded and sunny gardens right next to the Nantes Brest canal.
Described as a fisherman's dream (see our Trip Advisor reviews), the gite sits right beside the river Aulne which makes up part of the famous Nantes-Brest canal. Here you can fish, swim, cycle, run or simply walk for miles and miles (365 km in all) in perfect peace - it is very unspoilt and quiet, even in the height of the summer. The gite is available for hire all year round and has every comfort to make your stay a very pleasant one. There is also a spacious games barn with table tennis, darts, table football, Nintendo Wii, gym equipment and bikes to borrow (at no extra charge).
Stang Korvenn is just off a quiet main road that leads onto the famously empty road network in Finistere, enabling you to reach some superb coast and countryside locations within a 30 - 45 minute drive. The beautiful medieval city of Quimper is only 20 minutes away, and the local town of Chateauneuf du Faou has all the shops and banks you might need, as well as a riverside bar and other restaurants and a weekly market. Chateauneuf's 3 day Jazz festival at the end of July is hugely popular each year. There are several excellent golf courses in a 30 minute radius, and you are well placed to explore not only the superb coast but the fascinating countryside that makes up the Parc Naturel d'Armorique.
The gite has 2 spacious bedrooms, one double and one with twin beds. Towels and all bedding are provided, and the rooms have been recently decorated with cottage style charm and comfort. A travel-type cot and a high chair are available on request in advance for your baby. The shower room and WC are on the ground floor, and have a view of the canal!
The living room has a wood burning stove for cooler times, comfortable seating for 6 people and river views. There is a 32" HD TV with English and French TV, DVD with films to borrow, books and a good quality stereo to plug your MP3 player or phone into. One of the sofas in the lounge converts into a comfortable double bed for extra guests if required (on request).
We moved to Stang Korvenn in 2013, following redundancy from the NHS in England. Best thing that could have happened to us!
Bryan Cox purchased this cottage in 2010
We love the peace and tranquility here, but the fantastic roads system means that you're not too far from anything - only 30 minutes to wonderful coasts, superb countryside all round and lovely towns and cities in very easy reach, but far from the crowds. You can really relax here, and the river and its wildlife is a constant delight too. Fishing. swimming, canoeing, cycling, running or simply walking in or by the river are some of the delights waiting for you. And at Stang Korvenn all you have to do is step through the garden gate and you are by the river. Our guests all tell us how well they sleep here - it is so calm and peaceful, and we also provide high quality beds and bed linen. You have the use of a large games barn on the site with table tennis, table football, darts, gym equipment, a Nintendo Wii fit and use of bikes, all included for you at no extra cost.
We love the way this beautiful building and gardens welcomes us in every time we come back to it. It's a friendly place and all our visitors feel its magic too. As French friends have said, we have found "un petit coin du paradis" - a little corner of paradise. With 3 acres of gardens it's not so little but we agree. We have not asked guests to provide reviews for Home and Away (there is a limit to what people should be asked to do!), but please see our Trip Advisor listing for over 40 excellent reviews.
This cottage is superbly situated for exploring western Brittany, and met all of our requirements. It is very well equipped with a Wi fi connection that works well, and the major UK television channels as well as being clean and well maintained. Our hosts provided lots of for useful information regarding places to visit, and restaurants for a range of meals, and were very keen to ensure that we had everything we needed. We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage for short or long term stays.
The gite vert rivage is such a pretty cottage, surrounded by beautiful gardens, in a stunning location beside the Nantes-Brest canal. The spotlessly clean gite had everything our busy family needed for a comfortable stay. From the well equipped roomy kitchen (the welcome pack was a nice touch), to the brand new shower room, that's better than ours at home, to the comfortable and sumptuous beds. We all slept so well that we had more lie-ins than we had planned! There is more than enough storage throughout. The decoration throughout is simple, tasteful, and with a little bit of quirky French style. I particularly enjoyed the artwork dotted around. Our boys felt so at home that they often wandered around the gardens and games barn alone (we can trust them to stay away from roads and water), and loved the Wii in the games barn, along with the Blu-ray player and Freeview in the gite. Whilst my husband and I revived our love for darts and table tennis. The setting by the canal is a real gem, we had many walks and runs along it, and took the children down most evenings to watch the bats under the bridge. The peace and quiet anytime was absolutely wonderful. The location was perfect for so many days out. The west coast beaches are only 40 mins away, and there are numerous wonderful towns only a stones throw away. There are ample local services and good places to shop and eat nearby. Our hosts were warm, welcoming and endlessly helpful, without being in any way obtrusive, and we enjoyed being guests in their wonderful home.
We hope to return in the very near future.
The gite is situated next to the main B&B house and has beautiful views across the gardens and impressive Nantes/Brest canal.
The wood burning stove kept the gite cosy and everything we needed was provided. The kitchen is well appointed and clean. The bathroom had lovely fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. Beds were comfy and had high quality cotton sheets and covers.
The hosts were very welcoming and happy to help with information and offers to use the games barn, bikes etc.
This area of France is beautiful with plenty to see and do and the river setting of the gite means there is always a walk available and luckily the sun shone everyday of our holiday!
I have no hesitation in recommending this property.
An idyllic setting, alongside the river Aulne (Nante-Brest canal) and an equally delightful gite. The kitchen, bathroom and shower are downstairs, upstairs has a double and twin bedrooms. The property was spotlessly clean and tidy and well furnished. The surrounding gardens are alive with songbirds, with several areas suited for outdoor meals or picnics. Bryan and Jill, who live in and run the adjacent B&B accommodation, are very pleasant hosts and were always around to offer advice on days out in the surrounding countryside or tourist attractions. A number of bicycles were available for trips along the canal path, with the town of Chateauneuf du Faou within easy reach.
A wonderfully relaxing week, blessed with constant spring sunshine, we are already planning a return visit.
There is such a huge range of wonderful places to visit, from the unique gothic chateau 6 km away to wonderful sandy beaches all within easy reach. We will provide detailed advice and information to help you plan your stay.
