About the property

3 story, 4 BR / 2.5 BA Handsome Historic Manor. Rear 2BR Cottage avail separatel

Come experience true southern comfort. Bring a smile and a suitcase...that's all you need.

You'll find stylish luxury & antique ambience blending perfectly w/21st century convenience when you stay in the Taylor Manor. Located in Savannah's coveted and prestigious downtown historic district, the Manor was originally built in 1870 and lovingly restored in 2001 by the current owners.

Our aim, as owners, is for guests to live in a vacation rental 'home', NOT a rental 'house'. You'll not find a sofa sleeper to tip-toe by or stumble over in Taylor Manor. All beds are inside actual bedrooms nor is there a sofa sleeper or futon in any of the Bedrooms either! The 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor each have Queen-sized beds. The Attic Bedroom on the 3rd floor has 2 Daybeds (plus the twin trundle beds that do pull out so sleep 4 with just those) PLUS it has a Queen-sized bed as well. Sleep 10 in perfect comfort. (NOTE: While up to 12 can be accommodated in beds, the Owner prefers groups of 10 or less and rates quoted are for 10 or fewer persons. However, will accept up to 12 but small extra person fees will apply)

Taylor Manor has several unique features that are a rarity in the historic downtown district!....

1) it has its own driveway. A BIG advantage in a sea of parking metered streets which is the downtown historic district. PLUS the street that fronts the Manor is unmetered...again... a delicious perk.

2). The Manor is Hypoallergenic (light curtains, little to no carpet, polished wood, tile, marble and stone floorings and all mattresses are encased.)

3). It's Pet-friendly....with Owner pre-approval. (extra fee applies). YES... it sounds like an oxymoron! But...The Manor is both hypoallergenic and pet friendly. It's because the furnishings and decor are leather, wood, stone, tile and marble. Draperies are light. Carpet is only in one bedroom. Mattresses are fully encased. Pet hair is an easy clean and allergens/dustmites etc can't find a toehold. I've had numerous guests over the past 10 years of renting the Manor who've assured me their allergies were simply (and who booked because it was described as hypoallergenic) not an issue when staying at the Manor.

4) Roomy closets (again...rare in historic homes built in the 180's where armoires were the standard). A perk for those who don't want to live out of their suitcase.

5) Not JUST Central AC/Heat but Ceilling Fans in EVERY room (except the bathrooms) and a dual thermostat system to individualize the first and second floors to your comfort levels.

6). The's lovely. Plus there's both a Veranda deck and a patio Courtyard. Both are furnished but you can enjoy splitting up your group or reading a good book while others yak away...simultaneously in your own nooks.

7. Hammocks of any kind are great and the Hammock Swing Chair is a wonderful way to sip coffee and enjoy the mornings.

8). The traffic pattern and layout of the Manor is very open and spacious. Not tiny little rooms with tiny little doorways like the usual historic home downtown. It allows everyone in your group to mix together easily..or find their own niche away from the rest.

9). My personal fave perk....All beds are inside a sofa sleepers or pullouts. No one to trip over if you want to go to the kitchen in the middle of the night.

10). Nintendo gamecube for the younger set and a select DVD/Video/Game library for your enjoyment.

11). Tennis Racquets. Fishing poles (must request- have 2)

11). Dine with everyone together. The Dining Room seats 8 - 10 easily and the antique oak dinette in the adjoining kitchen seats another 4 - 5 making small gatherings of groups within your large group a breeze or be all together! The open passthroughs and wide doorways allow for conversations between the rooms to be easy.

11) And this is the BEST of all... we believe in serious comfort! Everything you need is at your fingertips. Iron an ironing boards, blow dryer, linens, dishes and all the cookware you need, a charcoal grill, flat screen TV's, even a packnplay if you're flying and don't want to bring one! Best of all...Beds are comfy, comfy, comfy! (I've had guests call to ask me who the manufacturer was....several times!).

So in a nutshell...those are the perks you won't find in many historic homes. Now to describe what else you have when you stay at the Taylor Manor...sunshine spills past light/sheer curtains and through open plantation blinds. The original heart-pine floors are from the 19th century and I covet them for my own home daily. The entry hallway is marbled with a chandelier to greet your group in style. Meals are a snap to cook in a kitchen that is huge...easily twice to three times what you find in the standard historic home. And you won't find these countertops anywhere else... they were milled from the original heart pine rescued from the home during its renovation...the rings on the wood beams they came from showed the wood is >450 years old!

Enjoy a relaxing bath in the jetted whirlpool tub (also a shower) or stretched out in the antique 6' claw tub (also a shower) after a day of sightseeing. A convenient half bath is located on the first floor. Remember too...a Car is nice but not necessary when you stay at Taylor Manor. You can truly walk to everything within the downtown historic district because it surrounds you. Trolleys and Carriage Tours will even pick you up at the doorstep if you call and make your reservations in advance and tell them you are staying at Taylor Manor!

Lastly...the Manor is not decorated as a "Rooms to Go" Vacation Rental "House" ...but as a home. And you will feel the homeyness. The decor is mean't to give an ambience that brings to mind the 19th century when it was built (1870 to be exact) and yet, still have all the comforts of the 21st century at your fingertips. Each of the four bedrooms has its own distinctive decor as well and yet retains that "historic feel".

You'll find everything well-maintained with problems promptly addressed by the Owner.

The neighborhood is a quiet one in the southeast quadrant of the historic district. Brick sidewalks and gas lights line the street in front of the Manor. A large magnolia tree shades the front porch. Tour the craziness during the day of the downtown shops and streets, the splendor of the oak lined squares, stroll to Whitfield Square (the next block and frequent site of outdoor weddings in the gazebo at its center) or continue on through all the famous savannah squares lined with live oaks dripping spanish moss. Bring a bat, glove and ball and put together an impromptu softball game at Beasley Park (across the street from the end of Taylor Street), or take your dog to the dog park that is there and the kids to its playground. Picnic areas and playgrounds and the famous fountain are a 10 min walk away at Forsyth Park to the south. River St is a short 20 min walk to the north. Cafes, restaurants and shops are all around you. And the beach is a mere 20 min drive away. But when you return....after all return to relaxation in our lovely 147 year old Manor.

So Book away!

About Suzanne

My husband, myself & our two kids (along with two cats, two ferrets & a dog :) purchased, lived in & lovingly restored the Manor back in 2001. As a licensed, general contractor, Mike made restoring the home a family project that he headed up. Mikes folks joined in on the restoration. The original intent was never for the Manor to be a rental. Hence, floorplans, choice of appliances, placing outlets everywhere, & putting in roomy closets were the 'convenient touches' which made our historic 1870 home meet the needs of our 21st century family. For years, Mike & I laughed, worked and homeschooled our girls while living in the Manor. Years later, Mike and I made the decision to turn our lovely historic home... into a vacation home rental. So in 2007, we again moved our little family of four, (different) cat, (same) dog but sans ferrets in order to let others enjoy our former home. Fast forward to present day... Our girls are college graduates! One from SCAD. One from AASU. I now share the inside information on the best to do and see in Savannah (gleaned from actually living downtown myself for the past 14 years) with my guests. Because, no matter what the ages in your's been an age of one of my family members either now or in the past! I know what and where we go...have gone....and/or wish to go!

Living in the South has been great. Mike grew up Yankee. I was a California girl. Our girls were initially Carolina Cuties. But since 2000 they have proudly worn the title of georgia peaches! We love the South, the Lord, and Savannah. No other city is as beautiful. Our wish is to welcome you as we were welcomed....with warmth and hospitality

Suzanne purchased this townhome in 2001

Why Suzanne chose Savannah

We moved to Savannah from North Carolina when my husbands' job had him travel there. The landmark historic district is breathtaking and so walk-able! Everything I could want is walking distance. And when you walk, it's through beautiful, shady squares with outdoor cafes, moss-draped spanish oaks, carriages going by, cobblestone streets, & all these gorgeous historic houses. I loved it. Initially, when we first arrived in Savannah, we had moved to a 'cookie-cutter' subdivision within the city. While nice...that was not where I wanted to live. I had fallen in love with the 'real' Savannah...the original Savannah. That... is the 'landmark' historic district. (Note to the wise...the original GA colony borders constitutes the Landmark Historic District' . It stretches 1 mile x 1 mile from the River to Gwinett St (which marks the halfway point of Forsyth Park) & from MLK to Broad Street. Pass those street borders and you'll find things are not as easliy walkable as they should be. It's going to be a bit more like a hike. And some areas close to you are.... hmmm...sketchy. So be aware and be careful where you book). So...being in love with the Landmark historic district mean't buying a home there. And now we get to share it with you!

What makes this townhome unique

Walking to everything! Antique Stores, Boutiques, funky shops and clothing stores will beat the malls everytime:). Plus, major chains and high end retailers are throughout the historic district as well. I love the quaint, outdoor cafes and the stylish restaurants- and strolling home under moss-draped oaks through the famous Savannah Squares. It's great taking the dog with us when we'd go for coffee in the morning. The friendliness of the people. The cathedral which is breathtaking. In fact, all the churches are historic and beautifully built. The trees....I can just go and drive, bike, or walk, and stare at all the moss laden trees and the flowers in bloom and just feel the relaxation start seeping into my bones. The Savannah Theatre has a live variety show that is equal or excells those you'll find in Vegas, Branson, or even New York. You simply can't ask for a better place to live..festivals, street fairs, fireworks all summer long. Love it. Plus...the cuisine alone takes months to try to actually taste and try it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

(taken from Guest Commnet book)...."Awesome - Spent time at Manor House. What can we say other than Awesome. We enjoyed this first trip to Savannah and would enjoy coming back to the Manor in 3 years for our 65th wedding anniversary!"

Great home, great location,great host

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time for my best friends bachelorette party at Suzanne's home. We had everything we needed and even had enough kitchen supplies to make a dinner for 11 people at the house! The location is absolutely perfect! She lives next door but was in no way intrusive. She was very helpful with suggestions without being overbearing. I would absolutely stay at this home again! I've written bad reviews for homes before so I definitely was impressed 😁

Owner's Response: I was delighted to read your complimentary review. Ten years ago, when my husband and I decided to move out of the Manor and start renting out "our home" as a vacation home to Savannah's visitors, our aim was to provide Guests with the perfect setting for memories, comfort and convenience... along with a generous spoonful of southern hospitality. Reviews like this one remind me of my goal and reassure me we are still on track! Thank you!

Wonderful Old Savannah Experience

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of middle-aged guys who rented the property for St. Patrick's weekend. We were blown away by the comfort and rustic charm of the home, its excellent location--just a 5 to 10 minute walk to nearby bars and restaurants--and the host's gracious welcome upon our arrival. We could not think of a better place to have spent the weekend. It was an all around wonderful experience.

Tip: Brunch at J. Christopher's was probably the best food we had all weekend.

I want to add that the host went above and beyond after our departure by helping us retrieve a package of t-shirts that had unfortunately been delivered too late for the weekend. She retrieved the package from the porch, put our UPS label on it, and gave it to the UPS driver. Thank you so much!!!

Owner's Response: I admit to being nervous about a "group of middle-aged guys" renting the Manor for, of all the weekends in a year,.... St Pats! But, when a group is genuinely sweet and considerate leaving my home in clean and well-cared for condition, then they are perfect for the Manor and for any of the other 52 weekends on any year. So this group is welcome to return anytime! Glad to hear J. Christophers was good. I know the portions are large. A definite plus with men! As for your t-shirts, sorry they weren't delivered till after your stay. Delighted ya'll enjoyed walking to the parade and other downtown sights and restaurants along with the comfort and convenience of the Manor! Definitely worth a return visit!

Amazing House in Beautiful Savannah

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and best friends planned a weekend getaway in Savannah and stayed at Taylor Manor. We could not have had a better stay at the house.

We were greeted by Suzanne, who was so wonderfully nice, and she showed us a map and pointed to all the best places in town. The house is only a short walk from the best restaurants and shops. We took advantage of the distance and spent the entire weekend walk around to all the places Suzanne recommended.

The house was superbly clean and the beds were so comfortable! I usually can never sleep when I'm away from home but had no problem in this house! All rooms are beautifully decorated and the attic would be such a treat for children. The patio outside had a comfortable hammock which was perfect for the warm weather!

I would absolutely recommend this rental to everyone!

Amazing Place for Girl Scout Troop

  • 5 of 5

Our Girl Scout troop of 7 and some moms came to Savannah and absolutely loved our stay at Taylor Manor! The attic bedroom was the perfect place for all the girls to stay. Suzanne, the owner, was such a delight, so easy to work with and very welcoming-greeting us when we got there and providing suggestions for places to eat and visit. The Taylor Manor is situated in a nice, quiet neighborhood in easy walking distance to all the downtown adventures from River Street to the Visitor Center and everything in between. The Manor was nice and roomy for the evenings when the moms played games at the kitchen table while the girls played games in the dining room. We had such a fantastic time and can't wait to come back to Taylor Manor very soon! I highly recommend this property for groups big or small! It will certainly exceed your expectations!

Owner's Response: Such fun to read that you played the board games provided and loved my suggestions! Living downtown for the past 17 years means I keep up with the where-to-go places. I have to... shops and restaurants are ever-changing! So the variety of what to see and do downtown is HUGE...and my being able to point a group into the perfect direction for the ages and interests of their group the fun part of greeting of groups when they first arrive. And a goal of mine is to have great suggestions available at my guests fingertips...even when I'm not there to greet them! Delighted you all loved the Manor's spaciousness, its location, and true convenience. As mentioned, the Attic Bedroom is a huge draw for the younger ones, families and older lady getaways or bachelorette groups. While the private Queen bedrooms on the 2nd floor are great...sometimes you want a room where 4 - 6 of you can gab away in PJ's or challenge each other with the nintendo game cube that's up there (always a fave with the 5 - 32 year-olds! ) But your best comment was you would love to return. Happily returning guests are definite favorites!

Girl Scout Trip

  • 5 of 5

I brought a group of Girl Scouts to Savannah and everyone LOVED Taylor Manor. The owner, Suzanne, was wonderful to work with. She met us at the door the day we arrived and took us through her beautiful home, gave us suggestions for places to eat/visit and answered all our questions. The girls had so much fun exploring the house and they all loved the attic room bedroom. I stayed in the master bedroom and the mattress was awesome - I did not want to get out of bed in the mornings. The house had everything we needed. We cooked some of our meals at the house. The kitchen was well stocked and there was room for all 10 of us at the dining room table. There were even games and books for the girls. The property sits on a quiet street and we felt completely safe, even after walking back late from our ghost tour. Highly recommend the Old Savannah Trolley Tour and the Pirate House. We had a great time and I would definitely recommend this property.

Owner's Response: I so love a review that makes me know my goals for providing guests with everything they need to make their stay memorable...was met! And the ones that include not just why (I agree with the mattresses which, along with the location, is one of the biggest compliments I get on the Manor)...but also the other sites you enjoyed while in Savannah. Your Scout troop was a delight as were the chaperones and, as a former Scout myself (way back in the day) and a Mom...I know what makes a home fun for the younger set. So glad they loved the home and hope to have others feel the same you did! Appreciate the review so much.

50th Wedding Anniversary Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I can not possibly say enough wonderful things about this home! It was absolutely perfect for my parents 50 year wedding anniversary family vacation/celebration! We had more than enough room for the 10 people who traveled there to celebrate. The kids LOVED the attic bedroom! In the 7 days we spent in Savannah we never heard "I'm board" when the adults wanted to be at home a relax. This is a HUGE plus and if you have children you know what I mean. The other bedrooms were wonderful as well. The beds are very comfortable so you don't have to worry about not getting quality sleep. All three levels of the home are beautifully furnished. Suzanne has thought of everything you will need. The huge kitchen is fully stocked and the dining room sat all 10 of us. We had a wonderful time and will definitely visit The Manor again!

Helpful hints... Dinner at The Olde Pink House is a must. The Pirate House is good too and the kids loved it. Cupcakes from Mabel's!! The haunted trolley tour. Cupcakes from Mabel's is worth mentioning again!

Owner's Response: I am always so delighted when my mattresses are mentioned! And... the Attic bedroom! (I nicknamed the Attic bedroom the "Louisa May Alcott" Bedroom" and that one and the Master bedroom nicknamed "Italian Renaissance" are my faves. But the "Civil War" Bedroom and "Rosebud" Bedroom are charming and the twin masonry fireplaces in each one...definitely were a such a treat to restore when my husband and I bought and restored the home in 2001. So...I guess they're ALL wonderful :). After reading this review though... I am heading out my own front door to Mabels and grabbing a cupcake :). Gotta LOVE living in the heart of Savannah's downtown district! Hmmm...or I could try to bake something in my own kitchen...which is why I know everything a kitchen "should" have in it and have aimed to make sure guests find that in the Manor :).
