I grew up in Maryland and as a child visited the Chesapeake Bay on family outings and with the Girl Scouts. As an adult I lived in Annapolis and spent a lot of time sailing and boating on the Bay. I love a quiet beach to really relax and unwind. My dog likes to accompany me to the beach for swims and long walks looking for sharks teeth and sea glass. I love to cook and have equipped the kitchen with everything I need to prepare great meals for my family and friends.
Deborah Brooks purchased this house in 2007
My parents owned another home in Cove Point Beach in the 1980's and I spent lots of time at the house. I fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay Western Shore. I was delighted to have the opportunity to purchase this home as a vacation home and offer it as a rental for other families to experience life on the Chesapeake Bay. The proximity to my home in Ashburn, VA, allows me to getaway there throughout the year to work or relax with friends.
The location on the marsh side of Cove Point gives the feel of being secluded in a cabin in the woods. The front screened porch is a great spot for a meal or relaxing with a book in the rocking chairs. A short two blocks away is the private beach where I can let my dog off leash. The walk to the lighthouse and gentle waves of the bay make it ideal for children. The area is so quiet and peaceful, full of relaxing night sounds in the marsh. You will sleep well during your visit!
We are getting packed up here at your Cove Point home and we've had such a good time, thank you for offering such a comfortable vacation spot.
Again, thank you for the kind communication as we prepared for the trip and we'll be sure to recommend your home to others.
Have a good week.

My husband, son(2 years) and I stayed at Cedar Beach Lodge during a terribley rainy weekend in October. Despite the weather, we had a wonderful time! The house was spotless and decorated so beautifully! The covered wrap around porch was perfect to sit and watch the rain fall with a cup of hot chocolate!
I would highly recommend to anyone!
Our family had a truly relaxing time at this spacious and serene property by a private beach. We took walks on the beach with our dog and enjoyed beautiful views of the lighthouse and bay. We ran into so few people, it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves! The kitchen was well-appointed and we ate most meals at the house. Our six-month-old daughter loved it here. The house was laid out perfectly for her to take naps upstairs while the adults relaxed on the porch or watched a movie. We appreciated how we could leave much of the baby gear at home and use the crib, high chair, toys and even a toddler wagon that were provided here! A quiet and absolutely serene place for the parents and plenty of things for our kid to do made this hands down the best trip for us! Plus plenty to do for families in the area, including hiking at Calvert Cliffs, the nice restaurants on Solomons Island, and local kid-friendly museums and gardens. Highly recommend this lodge for families with little ones and furry friends. We can't wait to return!
We rented for the entire month of April and I highly recommend any opportunity to take advantage of this wonderful home. Our friends and family had a full month planned with events and outings and Cedar Beach Lodge proved to be an ideal home for visits, relaxation, sight seeing and easy access to the entire regional area.
We began the month with a beautiful wedding at the nearby Jefferson Patterson Park. The house was ideal for the bridal party to use for preparation. Its easy access to the wedding venue allowed the bride and her party to relax, dress and have lovely pictures taken before the wedding.
After the wedding we spent the rest of the month with friends and family coming for overnights visit. It was absolutely perfect. There was plenty of room for visitors. We were able to spend quality time with friends and family without rushing here and there. Everyone who visited felt like they were having there own vacation .... it truly was paradise.
The beach is so incredibly beautiful, morning and evening walks on the beach were enjoyed by everyone. The home was so comfortable, it is stocked with anything you could possibly want or need. We assumed we would stock everything we needed when we arrived (we were traveling from Milwaukee, WI) and we were delighted to find, literally everything we needed was provided in the house. We found a wonderful grocery store nearby and food was the only thing we needed to provide.
Over the course of the month we enjoyed grilling on the deck, the amazing seafood at Solomon's Island and exploring the extensive historical sites in St. Mary's and Calvert County. The easy drive to Washington D.C. made sightseeing easy and enjoyable. We could not have found a better place to stay to enjoy the kind of trip we had hoped for.
The homeowner was so easy and kind to work with. Given the length of our stay and the logistics involved our plans evolved over time. She was extremely flexible and understanding in anything we requested (in particular our pet situation changed and she was so kind and agreeable).
Our friends and family who visited enjoyed the house as much as we did. Most visitors were local and really enjoyed visiting Cove Point.
We will definitely be renting here again. This experience was perfect and exceeded all expectations we had.
It's the holiday season and I hate shopping! What to do? Find the perfect get-away home to share with my family.
Cedar Beach Lodge was about an hours drive from our nation's capital so a day trip was very doable. We had nine in our merry group ranging in age from 9 to 69...everyone was happy!
We like to cook and sit down together as a family and the kitchen, though a bit small was well appointed and we easily prepped and ate together...don't worry about needing to bring anything w/ you for cooking...it's there.
Not only is the kitchen well stocked, but just about anything you need for a fun day outside is there too...we enjoyed a quick ride to the lighthouse w/ the kids courtesy of bikes provided and bike pumps to be sure we had well inflated tires to roll.
This is a private community so there was very little traffic - we had no hesitation about the children crossing to the beach on their own or enjoying the yard. This also gave the feeling that the beach was our own, though we did meet a few other winter beach goers also enjoying the mild temps.
The home's decor is beach themed and focused on the area's beauty, but it's also kid friendly. A bonus too was that we could have our lovely pups along!
Whether you intend to enjoy the beach and the other small communities around or to tackle a day trip to the city you'll find this the ideal place to get away!
This was a wonderful weekend for several reasons. It was the Chesapaeake festival with so much going on, the weather was super mild, and we hadn't stayed here since 2009! It was fabulous! The house is so cozy and extremely clean and well stocked. We are a family of 6 and we are very comfortable here. With our four boys there is always some exploring, swimming, digging for sharks teeth, riding bikes to do. I found a shark tooth that would make Jaws jealous! The museum was free on this particular weekend, we explored the lighthouse, went out in a sailboat, and built our own model boats out of wood. My boys had the best time and can't wait to go back! We will definitely be returning to this top notch beach house!
What a lovely location for my husband and me, our daughter, our son and his wife, and their 1 and 2 1/2 year olds to connect for Thanksgiving! The owner was delightful during the booking process and any communication to her was answered promptly. This home was immaculately clean with a charming beach theme decor, and beautiful views of the woods. It is well thought out and organized for comfort and convenience with so many details like memory foam mattress toppers, night-lights, mirrors in all bedrooms, comfy throw blankets, highchair, well equipped kitchen, nice furniture, TV, wi-fi, etc. as advertised. The upstairs master is very spacious with its own bathroom and a closet large enough to hold the pack-n-play we brought for secluded sleeping for the one year old. The crib nook is less than ideal (we didn't use it) due to the loft nature of the master bedroom and the impact of kitchen and living area sounds from below. The two downstairs bedrooms are snug, but very comfortable. The continuous kitchen, eating, and sitting area is adequate for six to eat or sit comfortably. We were blessed with unseasonably warm weather for November and spent every morning on the beach, pulling the baby in the plastic wagon supplied in the storage area (much more was available too, like beach chairs, bicycles, sand toys). The beach is gorgeous, secluded, and offers shells, shark teeth if you are diligent, driftwood, logs, and a a fun place to walk and wade (a great surprise for November). We loved our lunch out at Stoney's Kingfisher's nearby where they had delicious crab cakes and shrimp, as well as landlubber options. We would highly recommend this home away from home.
Beach, lighthouse, museums, crabbing, fishing, shell collecting, fossil hunting, bird watching, water park, restaurants, shopping, water sports, relaxing, golf (optional)
The Calvert Marine Museum is a must see and offers many concerts with performances from artists seen at Wolf Trap. Anne-Marie Garden is a lovely sculpture garden in any season and has special events throughout the year, including the garden in lights during the winter holidays. Solomon's Island offers churches, shopping, restaurants, the world famous Tiki Bar, and a quiet boardwalk along the river.
Historic St. Mary's City is a short drive across the Thomas Johnson bridge and shopping at Belk, Target, Walmart, BJ's, Lowe's, etc. is conveniently located in California and Hollywood, MD, just over the bridge.
This area has something for everyone to enjoy.
Other Activities: fossil hunting, visiting historic sites, public beaches, Cypress swamp, and exploring the beautiful country roads throughout the area.
Golf: Chesapeake Hills Golf Club is a public golf course 2 miles from the house.
