Pristine beaches, Caribbean paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a wonderful week in Eleuthera at Magic Sand vacation rental. Seamless from the start- Hugh (the owner) gave good instructions and we rented a car from his contact. She met us at the airport, and all went well from there. Driving took a conscious effort initially, but quickly became second nature.

The house was very comfortable and well outfitted. We were happy we had stayed on the Atlantic side, as there were terrific ocean breezes. We had no problems with mosquitos or no see-ums during our stay.

The Double Bay Beach was private and very pretty. During low tide, there were many rocks and tide pools to explore for treasures, as well as a nice beach to walk. We found Magic Sand to be at a good spot on the island, allowing us to explore the Northern, Southern and Central parts of the Island. The island is stunningly beautiful- a treat to the senses. We enjoyed trying to find remote beaches (SUV necessary) and trying local cuisine. We bought fresh grouper at Tarpum Bay dock, and cooked at our rental. The house is equipped with spices, pots and pans, a grill outside, and all we needed. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the porch deck and in the Tiki covered deck

with a glass of wine in the evening, or our breakfast in the morning. The house had comfortable beds, good water pressure in the showers, and a large flat screen in the living room. Many dvd and cds were available, as well as books for most genres. The wifi is iffy-

and seemed to be better in the evenings.

We enjoyed frozen daiquiris and conch salad at Leo Rose after searching for sea glass at James Cistern beach (awesome finds). Tried Tippy's which was fun but pricey, and The Buccaneer. Grocery stores were adequate- we did buy produce at Island Farms, and found someone selling stone crabs- delish! Residents were friendly and helpful.

We have only positive things to say about this trip and rental. Would return in an instant!

Great Property/ Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Magic Sands late Oct 2015 with another couple. The property is totally secluded and the house is very comfortable. The house layout is perfect for 2 couples. Bedrooms are spacious, beds and linens are very nice. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you have at home. Lots of beach toys, "floaties", etc. The TV and movie/book selections were incredible. Everything was clean and modern. Double Bay is a wonderful beach.....can walk for a long way without seeing anyone. Only problem we had was the Gas grille wasn't working but there was a charcoal grille on the property . Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise!!!!

Owner's Response: Real glad that you folks enjoyed our place in paradise. Did you note that the gas grill is stainless steel. This goes to show just how severe the conditions are being that close to the ocean. Really unbelievable. Anyway, come again when you can and thank you for your honest critique. Hugh

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My 2 adult children and I traveled to Magic Sand for a week and were amazed!

The home is incredibly private, well appointed and almost luxurious in its furnishings, yet at the same time, homey, warm and very comfortable. We loved the views from both porches and literally felt like we were the only people on the beach! Walking down from Liki Tiki, it was rather lava rocky, but we loved exploring the tide pools,(saw LOTS of hermit crabs!) and a mere few feet down the beach was pristine, pink sand, calm aquamarine water, palm trees and a 10 star beach that we were able to walk to! Perfect!

We explored French Leave Beach, saw the Glass Bridge, loved the jerk sauce, bread, pepper jelly and salsa from Island Farms and lunches at Wild Orchid and Beach Club.

We did have a few days of rain, but it brought out the most awesome tropical tree frogs! And the crabs were running down the street! Loved it!

The sunsets were nothing short of amazing. Sue was awesome with helping with the car.....even helping us when we took a wrong turn!

To be totally honest, beware of the no-see-ums. They are brutal. Even with Off bug spray, we all got chewed up pretty bad.

We have visited many islands in the Caribbean and according to all 3 of us, this was definitely one of our very favorites!

Thank you Hugh!

Magic Villa

  • 4 of 5

We loved our first trip to Eleuthera. Beautiful beaches, sleepy villages, great restaurants and friendly people.

Magic Sands is centrally located which made it a good base for exploring the island. The house is spacious, nicely furnished and very comfortable. The porch overlooking the ocean is amazing. We had breakfast there every morning, surrounded by palms, flowering bougainvillea and oleander waving in the ocean breeze.

The downside—and this is outside of the owner’s control—was the beach. At the moment it’s all lava rock and pretty much uninhabitable. Just our luck. However, we found that a ten minute walk in either direction took us to nice sandy beaches so it wasn’t so bad.

By car, the house is 10 minutes away from fabulous Ten Bay beach—our five-year-old’s favorite—and about 20 minutes from famous French Leave. Apparently these are among the best on the island. The house is also close to Island Farms for fresh bread, vegetables, and cheese; Millard’s and Lakia’s for eggs and milk; and many good restaurants in and around Governor's Harbour. It’s a 90 minute drive to incredible Lighthouse beach at the southern tip of the island—a perfect day trip. Stop by Kinky’s Shell station in Tarpum Bay on the way and you’ll hear some great stories while he fills you up.

Sue was helpful with the car, but the house was so well stocked with essentials and beach gear, we really didn’t need to bother her with many questions. Hugh and Margaret have a great spot. Hopefully the sandy beach comes back soon.

Magic Sand Villa nice but beach very disapointing

  • 3 of 5

I am only giving Magic Sand Villa a 3 but not because of the villa. the villa was pretty much as advertised, very comfortable and clean, although the owner is going to need to spend some time or money on the maintenance if is to remain looking nice. The beach was not at all what we expected. The picture shows a beautiful sand beach which we assumed was right at the front of the house. Depending on the season of the year, the beach may be different, but for us, there was nothing but lava rock out in front of the house and for a good ways down the beach. It was not possible to get into the water close to the house. This also eliminated using the kayaks, which we were looking forward to. The pluses--beaches on the Caribean side of the island are beautiful white (or pink) sand beaches that gently go from shallow to deeper. Snorkeling was pretty much a waste as we saw very few fish the three or four times that we went out. Everywhere we went, people were very friendly and helpful. We had wonderful weather, although very windy. We left Ohio at 2 degrees F, so we very much welcomed the sun and 80 degrees!

Owner's Response: Yes, folks from OHIO it is correct to assume that the beaches change on a seasonal basis I took the picture myself in the month of August. You never know from year to year when and how long the sand will be there. I can not control that. I am sorry that you let that ruin your stay at our beautiful house and I believe that a 4 star or 4.5 star should have been the appropriate classification Sincerely, Hugh

Paradise Found!

  • 5 of 5

As we drove toward the lush greenery and flowering shrubs along the last sandy lane off the palm-bordered road, we felt as though we had discovered a hidden tropical paradise. And then we saw the amazing view from the veranda and the Tiki Liki. Aqua colored ocean waves crashed on the pink sandy beach. It couldn't get any better!

We were delighted to discover three excellent kayaks that took us on many adventures including escapades to the nearby island. There was great snorkel gear which we used in the water in front of the house, and at other reefs. How fun to find sand dollars and to see lovely fish and coral! Magic Sands is a delightful combination of private hidden paradise, and a headquarters for adventure. Thank you Hugh and Margaret! I believe you have thought of everything!

Sue, the helpful caretaker offered to buy a few groceries since we were arriving on Sunday after the stores were closed. She also told us a five gallon jug of water was provided as well as a cell phone for our use. We had good service for our Verizon phones, and were grateful for the WIFI which helped us keep in touch with the business at home. We brought a cooler of frozen meat with us, and purchased fresh vegetables, fruits, juice, jerk sauce and home made bread from Island Farms just up the road. The helpful gardener who came twice a week to keep the flowers and grounds looking lovely, cut down coconut for us. We enjoyed visiting James Cistern Wesleyan Methodist Church as well as gorgeous Light House Beach. Ocean Hole was also very intriguing.

The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well furnished. When the breezes were still at dusk and dawn, we learned to stay inside to avoid the noseeums.

How delightful to wake to the lovely views, and then to have the beach all to ourselves.

Our 8 days at Magic Sands were all we had hoped for and more. It was a peaceful retreat with gorgeous sunrises and views as well as the launching pad for many exciting explorations and adventures. Our vacation at Magic Sands was one of our favorite ever!
