We chose this villa because of its location; you can walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and next City om thr coast; LaFranc.
The villa is beautiful, and even better than the pictures, filled with lovely arts and books. Clean spacious rooms with private baths and balconies, everything you need in the kitchen.
The owners was very warm, helpfull and polite and seems to care a lot for the villa and thereby the guests. Reccomend staying here to everyone; seems like 9 people would be max counting all the beds (not including small children in cots).
Fabulous villa in an excellent location
Derek and Anne are excellent hosts who were incredibly friendly and helpful to us throughout our stay. The villa is beautiful and perfectly set up for a large family. It is spacious and clean with very nice interiors and really well stocked. The pool is much bigger than it looks in the photos. It’s a fantastic pool in a beautiful mature garden. The garden has plenty of outdoor seating. There is also a great outdoor dining area with a bbq. We’ll definitely be returning. Thank so much, Anne and Derek for a fantastic stay!
Fiona and Billy
It was pleasure to have Fiona, Billy and their family rent our villa.
They were most appreciative of the house and its location.
If they decide to come to this area again we would be very happy to have them back in our house.
Anne and Derek
Outstanding Family Villa 6/5
Being a family with ages ranging from 8 to 69, our visit needed all members to be entertained and satisfied, and this Casa ticked all of the boxes. Ann and Derek met us upon arrival, immediately making us feel welcome and letting us know that help was on call if needed. After a welcome drink they left us to enjoy our stay.
We soon realised that the website photos did not give this house the justice it deserved. Clean rooms were spacious and comprehensively furnished with many accessories. The property is amazingly well stocked with books, regional information, video and audio CDs and even LPs for the nostalgic. Apart from the obvious need to provide fresh food, the kitchen was stocked with everything needed for self-catering. Excellent restaurants and "take-aways" are a short distance away,as is the small port with its coves and beaches.
This is an ideal spot for a self-contained holiday or as a base for exploring this wonderful area of Spain.
We visited Anne and Derek's beautiful villa in August 2016. We were provided with clear directions which made the house easy to find, and received a warm welcome complete with much needed cold drinks.
Our group consisted of 7 adults and 2 under 5s and the generous size of the rooms and gardens meant we had plenty of space to spread out.
The house is of a very high standard, and we particularly enjoyed the great selection of CDs and books available. The kitchen had everything we needed, and it was helpful to find herbs/ oil/ cleaning products etc. already in place so we could top-up stocks as we went along, rather than having to buy everything from scratch.
The location is ideal - around a 15 minute walk into Calella where we sampled some of the many restaurants on offer along with spending time on the excellent beaches. The house is in a very peaceful location, and we all enjoyed relaxing in the gardens and cooling off in the lovely pool.
We are already looking forward to our next visit!
Perfect villa for family holiday
A fantastic base for a family holiday. This villa will provide all you will need to enjoy a luxurious, relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of Spain. My family group consisted of 4 adults and four children aged 7 yrs and under. The house is very spacious, spotlessly clean with plenty of quiet areas to retreat to if required. The finishes and furnishing are of high quality and the outside areas and pool are beautifully maintained. The villa, placed in a quiet residential area is a ten minute down hill stroll from the town. The owners Ann and Derek were incredibly hospitable. Despite arriving 3 1/2 hrs early with a sick child they could not have been more accomodating providing drinks and ice lollies while they prepared the house for our stay.
I would really recommend this villa and would love to return.
We stayed at this wonderful villa in July 2016. It’s a spacious comfortable house, very nice and well equipped. Anne and Derek were very helpful at the arrival and always on the background if you need them. It's a great location in Calella de Palafrugell, quiet area and close to different beaches. It was a pleasure to stay and we will be definitely coming back.
About the area
The local beaches are within a 10 minute walk. Calella is a small fishing village with the beach area formed of various small coves each with its own personality and character. It is possible to go to a different beach each day for a week and think you are in a different village. Walking or driving a bit further afield you discover a coastline which was awarded National Geographic Tourist Destination Award 2012. A truly stunning experience.
There are several excellent golf courses all within a 30 minute drive. There is also a Par 3 pitch and putt course about 20 minutes away which is very popular.
How to get there
Girona airport 45 minutes, Perpignan airport 1h 30 mins and Barcelona 2 hours.
Use of a car is not vital as there is an excellent bus service to all local towns and villages. However, to truly discover all the gems of the Costa Brava it is ideal to have a car for at least some of the time here. Walking along the coastal paths (the Cami de Ronda) is the best way to view the coast but there are many inland delights where use of a car is the most practical way to get around.
Palafrugell is 3 kms from Calella and you can find everything you may require there. There are daily fish, meat and fruit and vegetable markets in the centre of town and the big market day is Sunday. Calella has a variety of shops and restaurants and a large supermarket in the summer months. The town of Palamos has a fish market which sells fish direct from the boats in the late afternoon. The walled villages of Pals, Peratallada, Palau Sator are a short car drive away.
The Costa Brava has the most stunning coastline in Spain. There are many planned walking routes along the famous Camins de Ronda from the Spanish/French border down to Barcelona. Whilst the coastline is stunning there are many wonderful towns and villages inland as well. The walled towns of Besalu, Peratallada, Pals etc are truly delightful.
There are leisure activities for all ages and stages. Golf, flying, paragliding,
surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing are all available close by.
There is a plethora of superb restaurants within an hour of Calella de Palafrugell. The number 1 restaurant in the world, El Celler de Can Roca, is in Girona - a mere hour's drive if you are lucky enough to get a table (book before you come if you can). Closer to home we have El Casamar (one star Michelin) in LLafranch which is about a 25 minute walk from the house and Els Tinars which is about a 20 minute drive. There are also many other excellent restaurants and tapas bars in the area.
Palafrugell has everything you need. It is about 5 minurtes in the car and there you have all shops, banks, post office etc that you will need.
The nearby villages of Tamariu and Llafranch are also popular tourist resorts but retain the village feeling.
