Beautiful mountain cottage located at 1000 metres in the Julian Alps.
Crocus Cottage (so named after the wild crocuses so prevalent in this area) is a traditional Slovene mountain cottage, sympathetically renovated. It has three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin) and can sleep 6-8 people (there is a double sofa bed in the twin bedroom). It is extremely cosy, with efficient under floor heating and a wood burning stove in the sitting room. The bedrooms and shower room are upstairs. Downstairs is an open plan kitchen and sitting room, utility room (with a washing machine and a tumble dryer) and a bathroom with a large freestanding bath
Outside is a large decking area perfect for barbecues, or sitting and watching the spectacular sunrise, or just taking in the sounds of rural Slovenian village life.
The property is managed by Jackie Moolman who lives close by, and her contact details are available in the property guest book should you stay here, so please feel free to contact her if you have any queries during your stay. And if you do rent it, we hope you love it as much as we do!

Why Owner chose Municipality of Bohinj
We fell in love with the house. It was in a terrible state of repair and was clearly going to require a lot of work. Many people asked why we didn't just knock it down and start again. But we had bought it because we loved the exterior and we loved the village, and we wanted to keep it at least externally authentic. Originally we had planned to live in Slovenia once it was done, but our lives followed a different path, ultimately, so we didn't.
What makes this Cottage unique
Apart from the lovely village and spectacular views, this cottage comes with a rich history. During the Second World War, the owner used to hide resistance fighters in a man hole underneath what is now the bathroom. During the renovation, the builders found an old WW2 German bayonet, inscribed as given to a soldier for his faithful service. Quite apart from this, it is just on a stunning plateau and so well placed for so many different activities, we realise how incredibly lucky we were to find it. Each time we go out, we discover more about this lovely country, and the countryside and history and people.

Beautiful property in an idyllic mountain village
We had a fantastic stay at Crocus Cottage in this pretty Slovenian mountain village. The accommodation was very good for the five of us and has been very carefully renovated to a high standard - including a superb free-standing bath!
The family that own the property and the local agent are all extremely helpful. There was plenty to occupy our family (two adults and three children aged 11-15) for the week we were there and we would strongly recommend the chance to white water raft (with Life Adventures).
Thanks so much for the lovely review. It's really good to hear that people had a good time, so we're delighted that you did! Sophie & Duncan
Perfect mountain setting, lovely house and gorgeous part of the world
We had a wonderful time staying here, the house was spacious, clean, well looked after and felt like home. A beautiful view from the terrace down across the meadow to the quaint little bar that offered a friendly service and ice cold beer!
From here we ventured out to Lake Bled, Straza park, Lake Bohinj, Postojna Caves and seeing as it was 34 degrees most days we also jumped in plenty of rivers and found perfect spots for wild swimming and adventuring.
Travelling as a family of 4 (children age 8 and 5) plus the grandparents. This house suited us very well, gave us all enough space and allowed us to have a great holiday together. We found some great restaurants on trips between the house and Lake Bohinj and also managed to have some lovely meals & bbq's in.
The hosts were very helpful and the information we received from the owners before going was incredibly helpful at planning our trips out.
We're really glad you had such a good time, and thank you so much for the review - we really appreciate it. Best wishes, Sophie & Duncan
Beautiful cottage in the beautiful Slovenian mountains
Crocus cottage is as nice as described on the site : 3 big bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, nice decoration and furniture and a beautiful view over Koprivnik, a lovely small village. It's 30 mn away from Bled and Bohinj lakes and there are a lot of walking trails nearby.
There is a nice small bar/restaurant in the village but the nearest shop is 15 mn away in the valley.
Jackie, the property manager, is very nice and friendly and always ready to help. We also had very friendly contacts with Sophie, the owner, before arriving.
It's a perfect place for a quiet family holiday !
Thank you so much for the lovely review. We really appreciate hearing about people's time at Crocus Cottage and we're delighted you had a good time! Sophie & Duncan
Zeer naar wens
We hebben naar zeer tevredenheid een week in dit huis verbleven. Niks op aan te merken, alles netjes schoon en niks tekort gekomen. Mooie omgeving en goede vliegvismogelijkheden.
No. 13 Koprivnik is situated in a small farming village at an altitude of 1000 metres in the Triglav National park. It is perfectly placed for skiing (downhill and cross country), hiking, fly fishing, and white water rafting, amongst many other things. There are many beautiful places to visit - castles, caves, lakes, forests and gorges - there is even a car train situated in Bohinjska Bistrica, 15 minutes drive away, which can take you through the mountain to the Soča Valley. There is something for everyone, summer or winter. There are some amazing places - in particular the Lakes Bled and Bohinj, both stunningly beautiful and within a half hour's drive: the Postojna Caves, about an hour and a half's drive away, are genuinely awesome. Even if you don't ski, a trip up to the top of the Vogel cable car is recommended. Lake Bled is beautiful, with the island monastery often hazily rising through the mist out of it - you can take a boat trip there and have a wander around. For those who like a thrill, there is also an adventure park in Bled. You can kayak, canoe, skydive, toboggan summer and winter, dive and swim in the lakes, hike, go canyoning or paint-balling, and play tennis - there are endless activities to enjoy. In winter you have alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, snow shoeing and ice climbing.
Grocery shopping can be done in Bohinj, 15 minutes drive down the mountain from the house. Bled is 30 minutes drive away, and Ljubljana just over an hour. Ljubljana Airport is just under an hour's drive, but you can also fly into Klagenfurt (roughly 1 hr 35 minutes drive) or Trieste (2 hrs 30 mins drive).
There is a lovely local pub about a minute's walk from the house, where you can find local food (whatever they're cooking that day) and drinks (including absolutely delicious hot chocolate - make sure you ask for it with cream!). In winter there is lots of room for sledging and a proper sledging slope about 15 minutes drive up the mountain at Poklujka. This is also an ideal area for small children to learn to ski. In spring and summer the flowers are out and the cows wander freely around, cowbells lazily announcing their presence. The people in the village are very friendly.
There is a great pizza place (Pizza Ema) and a good local restaurant (Rupa) about 15/20 mins drive away in Srednja Vas. Both are well worth a visit. Plenty of traditional gostilnas (restaurants) can be found in the small villages leading to Lake Bohinj and also in Ukanc on the north side of the Lake.
