Car: recommended

Especially to our cottage is situated in a Greek village just outside the popular tourist area. It is wonderful in the evening to sit on the terrace and enjoy the peace and the stars. It is an ideal base for hiking. It lies on the edge of the village Mavrata and if you walk up the dirt road you are three minutes in the village. There you turn right at the local butcher, with a genuine curiosity shop. In summer you can eat a simple meal on the terrace with him.

About 10 minutes walk from a grill restaurant, which is open all year. You can get great food for little money. Even out of season you can find in the restaurant the authentic atmosphere of the local Greeks.

You can make beautiful bike rides in the interior of Kefalonia.

Katelios (translated: 'under the olive trees)

Katelios is the nearest beach town. By car you are in 5 minutes. It consists of an upper part ano Katelios and a lower part right on the coast, Kato Katelios. In the valley of Katelios are several pools that can be completely free to use. There is also a number of supermarkets and of course a wide range of restaurants. Katelios also has a sympathetic beach. For a very special beach to do something more.

Beach, Koroni

Sunset at Koroni Beach. For a very special beach to do something more. To reach this beach you must make a journey of about 15 minutes. The newly paved road spicy descent is doable. Halfway through the descent, you will pass a small tavern for snacks and drinks. Highly recommended in combination with a beautiful sunset!

Beach, Kaminia

Kaminia name comes from the brick ovens that once stood here. Paralia Kaminia is a wide sandy beach stretching from Katelios to Skala. The turtles lay their eggs there. Volunteers Turtlewatch operate to secure the eggs. You can reach this beach by driving towards Skala. In the first village you come Ratzakli, take the road down towards the beach.

The sea turtles on Kefalonia and Zante lay their eggs in the flesh can often be seen in the port of Argostoli. Near the fishing boats have the turtles a pleasant hangout and do well with the fish that are thrown overboard.

Melissani is an underground lake with beautiful blue water. Part of the ceiling has collapsed, leaving a ghostly lake with dark blue water formed. The water goes through two subterranean passages from Katavothri (northwestern Argostoli) to the cave Melissani on the road from Sami to Agia Efimia. Previously, the force of the water was used to make windmills rotate, which is yet to see a copy. The cave Melissani can be visited daily by boat from 8. 00-18. 00.

Stalactite. These caves are located on the road from Sami to Argostoli south of Sami. It's a huge room full of stalagmites, o a. Is used for concerts. You can visit the caves daily from 8. 00 - 18. 00.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Good to combine with a trip to Assos and Fiskardo.
