About the property

We invite you to experience our delightful holiday home, suitably named “Cronan-Na-Mara”, which translates from the Gaelic to “The Murmering of The Sea”. If you are in search of peace, tranquillity and spectacular views over Loch Duich and the mountains of Kintail then look no further.

This south facing detached property is situated on its own secluded plot directly on the shores of Loch Duich. Open the front door and you are a few metres from the water, greeted with striking and uninterrupted panoramic views.

The cottage is situated in the small village of Inverinate on the north shore of Loch Duich in the Kintail/Lochalsh area of the Scottish Highlands. The location is quite literally a walker’s / outdoor pursuits paradise with hill walking, climbing, water sports and shore walks right on the door step. The cottage is a perfect base to experience everything that the area has to offer and is a fantastic place to relax and unwind in following a day in the outdoors..

Kintail and Lochalsh is one of the most popular areas for walking and climbing in the Scottish Highlands. Kintail itself is famed for its classic mountain ridge walks. The Five Sisters and the South Glen Shiel Ridge are particular favourites of Munro baggers, whilst The Saddle is one of the most magnificent mountains in all Scotland. Closer to Skye is the Lochalsh peninsula between the shores of Loch Duich and Loch Carron. This area offers varied walking with villages such as Plockton as well as the region's main town at Kyle of Lochalsh. Across the dramatic Mam Ratagan pass is the remote and secluded Glenelg peninsula, a tranquil and peaceful haven far from busy routes.

The area is rich in wildlife and with some patience and determination you will be able to see sea otters playing on the shore of Loch Duich and golden eagles soaring around the mountain peeks. There are also deer, pine martin, badgers and wild goats to be seen. There is good fishing locally both in the rivers and sea. Nearby is the Isle of Skye which can be accessed via the Skye Bridge.

Please note that a car is highly recommended to experience the Scottish Highlands. Travel times to some key locations and amenities are highlighted below:

Eilean Donan Castle.....................7 minutes

Dornie...........................................8 minutes

Kyle of Lochalsh...........................17 minutes

Skye Bridge..................................19 minutes

Plockton........................................30 minutes

The cottage has been extensively refurbished in 2015 and features an open plan living area with fully fitted kitchen and dining area. The property extends to approximately 1,000 sq ft (92 sq m).

There are two double bedrooms which each contain king size beds. Bedroom 3 contains Bunk Beds and features a double lower bunk with a single top bunk. (See photographs).

Lovely views of the loch

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Joy's lochside house. The house is very comfortable, and the living room is larger in person than it appears in the photos. We found the beds to be very comfortable, with great water pressure in the shower. The kitchen was well supplied, and it was nice to have a full sized washer and dryer. The location is very easy to find, just an easy turn off the highway. And although the house is fairly close to the road, noise was never an issue, even with the windows open at night.

Joy was easy to communicate with and responded quickly when we had a question about the operation of the wall heaters. Our security deposit was refunded promptly.

The house is well located for touring Skye and farther afield. We wouldn't hesitate to rent the house again if we were to revisit the area.

Perfectly equipped property with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

The property has a perfectly equipped kitchen including high quality utensils. The view from the living-room through the panorama window is outstanding. We were lucky and could observe almost every morning porpoises/dolphins in the sound. The location of the property is perfect for trips to Skye and the Applecross peninsula.

Absolutely beautiful location too call home base when exploring the Highlands

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time visiting the highlands. The cottage was in a perfect location to explore and come home too after our daily adventures. We visited Culloden in Inverness, took the Jacobite train in Fort William, drove the Bealach na Ba pass too Applecross, and explored a good portion of Isle of Skye. We had an amazing adventure every day.

The cottage was very warm and inviting with everything we needed. The views were breathtaking and it amazed us too watch the mountain views change with different lightning when the sun decided to shine. We even lucked out too see otters and a couple of Osprey hunting fish.

Thank you so much Joy for sharing your home with us.

An excellent week of relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week at Cronan Na Mara. It was an excellent home base on the days we wanted to sightsee (Eileen Donan is a five minute drive, the Isle of Skye was 20), was plenty close to excellent hiking trails, and was beautiful and relaxing on the days we chose to stay inside.

We had a great week! We'd recommend this house to anyone looking for a quiet retreat in Scotland or anyone looking to explore the highlands and the Isle of Skye.
