At Gites de Laprade we are focused on providing you with your ideal holiday in this outstanding area of France, whether it is total relaxation you are looking for or a more energetic time, then we can certainly help you get what you want. The Limousin is famous for it's forests and lakes and we have both here at Gites de Laprade, our location in the Haute Vienne region, is quite unique, the river Couze which surrounds our property, runs quietly by the gite and feeds our 2 acre lake (unfortunately this means the location is unsuitable for children), this is well stocked with carp up to 35lb+ and colourful Koi carp, maybe you could try your hand at a bit of fishing, we are also happy to welcome your dog. This beautiful area abounds with wildlife, deer, wild boar and buzzards are easily spotted and the mix of forests and lakes make for perfect walking, cycling and bird-watching. If you are a budding artist then this is also the perfect area, it was certainly good enough for Fred Yates, he lived in our local village of Rancon until his death in 2009

About Taunya Smith
We are, Brian and Taunya Smith, a couple from the North of England, now living permanently in France. We had a small hill farm in the Pennines in West Yorkshire and, as Brian wanted to take early retirement, we decided to move!!!! We would appreciate the opportunity to welcome you to share our 'Little piece of Paradise'.
Taunya Smith purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Taunya Smith chose Balledent
When we decided on France, Brian's only demand was that he had a lake to fish in. This house more than fulfils his wishes as, our house is actually built on the lake and, we are surrounded by a river. It obviously fulfils our guests wishes as well as we have lovely people we now call friends, who visit us time after time
What makes this Cottage unique
We didn't originally plan to have gites but, this property came with two buildings, perfect for our friends and family to stay in. So, we did the renovations and now we love welcoming our family and friends old and yet to meet, to our beautiful, tranquil home!

We are in the 87, Haute Vienne area of the Limousin. The area is famous for it's forests and beautiful countryside and, of course it's lakes. For lots of info about the Limousin, please check out 'I Love Limousin' website. There are two famous lakes in the area, about 20 minutes away is Lac St. Pardoux which is a popular holiday destination with beaches, jungle swings, concerts and fireworks and, all the usual water sports available. Further afield, on the Haute Vienne/Creuse border, is the immense 1000 hectare Lac de Vassiviere again worth a trip for water sport and nature enthusiasts and also the dining cruises which I can book for you if you would like me to. About 5 minute walk from our gites is the river Gartempe, a favourite with locals and visitors alike for fishing and canoeing, you will enjoy walking along it's banks, also our own river Couze, to see the wonderful wildlife, there are wild boar and deer, the trees abound with birds both large and small. We are able to arrange bicycle hire for you if that is of interest, the bikes are delivered to us here at Gites de Laprade, complete with helmets, locks and repair kit, with no charge for delivery from www.bikehiredirect.com The famous II World War martyr village of Oradour sur Glane is somewhere that is well worth the short trip to visit, a place you won't forget once you have been. The city of Limoges is famous for it's porcelain and has a superb historic centre with timbered shops , winding cobbled streets and houses which survived the war-time bombs, it is also on the pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostella and has a stunning Cathedral and art deco train station. There is the superb old town of Chauvigny with it's ruined mediaeval castle where you can watch the falconers flying a large variety of birds from Storks and Condors to Barn owls and Macaws, truly a visit not to be missed. These are just a taste of what is on offer here, there are so many other places to see, too many to list here but, in the gite you will find a file with lots more places to visit all with maps and directions. But, if you need any help with your itinerary, just ask and we'll do all we can to help, we want you to fall in love with this stunning area, just as we did.
