This recently converted apartment is one short block from the Place des Vosges. In the 18th century it was a coach house and stable.
The apartment is 400 square feet (37 sq m), and retains the original ceiling beams; it has a recently renovated designer kitchen and bathroom, and a separate wc.
The front two rooms have been opened up to make a light and pleasant double studio. The private entrance opens directly onto a planted cobblestoned courtyard. Access from the street is restricted by electronic code. The neighborhood is extremely quiet and residential. Transportation (bus and metro) is close and simple.
All amenities are new as of February 2007: queen size bed; sunken bathtub with a shower; fully-equipped separate kitchen; central heat; double glazed windows; telephone with answering machine, Internet access, cable television, DVD player and CD player / radio, washer / dryer, safe. Excellent lighting.
The apartment is ideal for two people, although it has a sofabed.
There is so much to see and do in this neighborhood, The Marais, that I sometimes had to force myself to leave it. And to me it seemed so much more a real Parisian neighborhood than other areas in Paris where there almost seemed to be more foreign tourists than actual French people. This apartment is on a quiet side street one block from the elegant Place des Vosges. There are countless interesting shops around and the restaurant choices are almost overwhelming, whether it be a casual brasserie or something fancy. The owner, Florence, really helped in this regard with her suggestions. I loved the Cafe Chinois and ate lunch there several times. And, if you want to eat in, there are several supermarkets within blocks including one that sells primarily organic produce and products. There is also a fantastic boulangerie half a block away which I patronized probably more than I should have but, hey, that's what vacations are for.
The Paris metro is one of the most user friendly subways in world and will easily and quickly take you wherever you want to go. The Chemin Vert stop is only a few blocks away.
You enter the apartment's cobble-stoned courtyard through one of those massive, heavy doors that formerly opened to let in horse-drawn carriages. Florence's apartment is in the courtyard so there are no stairs to climb. It is simply and rustically furnished with everything I needed. The kitchen and bathroom have been remodeled and I loved the exposed beam ceiling in the bedroom area which had what seemed to me a huge bed compared to those in other places I've stayed. The living room area is small but comfortable with a desk, an armchair, a dining table (that can be folded up into the wall if you want to make more room) and a large, comfortable floppy sofa.
I really enjoyed my stay here and unhesitatingly recommend it.
Thanks Florence for letting me stay in it.
Florence was a most hospitable host, mindful of all of our needs, answering all of our questions and attending to any concerns we voiced. We loved this cozy apartment and found it perfect for our needs. The bed is very comfy and the kitchen is well-supplied with everything you'd need. We liked being on the ground level in this quiet neighborhood and enjoyed seeing the children going to school down the block the the morning. Local restaurants are good and the croissants at the corner are the BEST! We loved the location and found it convenient for accessing our favorite museums and sites by boat or on foot.
I will be brief in my confirmation of the sustained excellence of this 5 star rental. Immaculate, contemporary bathroom, home-like comfort bedding, well-stocked kitchen, and quiet yet efficient washer/dryer. The nearby farmer's market at the Bastille (Sundays) just added to the perfection. Almost forgot, the local boulangerie, also excellent, is right at the corner.
My husband and I have been to Paris many times but this was a first for using an owner-operated site vs. a hotel. The apartment gave us room to move around and was very clean and charming, with a well equipped kitchen and everything you might need for your stay. It was quiet yet so close to everything in Le Marais - a thriving, interesting part of Paris. Florence is lovely, very responsive and helpful - including recommendations for nearby restaurants - 2 of which we sampled and were fantastic! We do not hesitate to recommend this apartment.
We had read the other positive reviews and hope this apartment would be as good as those reviews indicated. It was wonderful, as was the owner, Florence. The apartment was clean when we arrived and everything was in order. The location is very quiet and we got a good nights sleep each night. There was a wonderful bakery at the end of the block and a couple of wonderful restaurants within 2 blocks. My wife and I do not see how a rental apartment could have been better.
My wife and I have been incurably in love with Paris and have visited the city more than 20 times, which makes somewhat connoisseurs of the place. During all these years we stayed in different hotels and also rented apartments. There is no doubt in our minds that THIS is the place for us, and thus, we rented the apartment 4 or 5 times since 2008. It would be hard to surpass such ideal lodgings: the location is perfect; the apartment is charming and well appointed; Place de Vosges is a quick one minute away, yet in spite of all the hustle and bustle of Marais, the spot on Rue du Foin is an oasis of calm and quiet; a lot of the major Paris attractions are within one hour walking distance; restaurants and elegant shopping practically on your doorstep, etc. But above all, what makes the stay here all worth it, the clincher, is the owner: she is the friendliest, most competent and accommodating host one could ask for. Charming and exceedingly pleasant, speaks impeccable English, has always made a point to meet all our requests, and even made the time to get together with us socially. She lives just a few minutes away and is always available to pick up the phone or come to the apartment upon request, should we need anything. By highly recommending this owner and her apartment we wouldn’t be giving them enough credit. Thank you, Florence!
The apartment is situated one block from the Place des Vosges. It is in the heart of the oldest, and most historic part of the Marais, which has some of the most beautiful surviving 17th and 18th century buildings in Paris. These include the Hôtel de Soubise, the Hôtel de Sens, the Hôtel de Rohan, the Hôtel de Sully, the Hôtel de St. Aignan and the Hôtel Salé.
