Idyllic setting, perfect for a family getaway
We wanted a quiet setting nestled in the mountains with indoor and outdoor space for a family of four and our dogs. We found it at this rental. Soaking in the hot tub and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery after a day of snowboarding was the icing on the cake. The property was clean and had a nice size common room with a wood stove where we spent our evenings in front of the fire. The decorating is definitely unique, but we thought it was fun and gave the house some personality. The owner was very accommodating, prompt to answer questions and overall very nice to deal with. Looking forward to booking again next winter.
The views and stars are forever without another soul in sight...
I never write reviews, but this place was special. "Relax in the Hot Tub Under the Catskill Stars," doesn't even begin to explain the incredible and expansive views all around you. As a New Yorker, we forget how awe inspiring the stars can be... especially soaking in a hot tub.
The views are outstanding, with lots of room for my dog and kids to run around. There is a farm down the road with fresh veggies that we cooked up. Plenty of cookware.
One of the best things about the place is Max the owner. He's easy to deal with and everything I needed for a relaxing weekend was already there. I have been burned by rentals on sites like this before and so I brought everything but the kitchen sink with me, but Max had it all there for us, from wine openers to cleaning supplies.
One note about being burned, when you walk into the first floor, don't worry... it's just the basement area. Once you go upstairs, open a beer and kickback on the deck, you'll see why this is the best bang for your buck in Roxbury. The town of Roxbury is cute and close to lots of fun getaway stuff. Totally recommended! Heading back again this weekend.
Peace, Quiet, and One Hell of a Getaway
Beautiful landscape, nestled among the mountains (little cell phone service), this is a charming little spot for a restful and restorative getaway. Clean and well kept, it has windows with magnificent views in most every direction and a wonderful wrap-around porch on which to dine or sit out in the cool evening breeeze. Fabulous area for dogs to run free, as the grounds are surrounded by tall, luscious shrubbery creating a clear perimeter. It is not escape proof but does give a well trained dog boundaries.
We were only there for a few days in the early fall, to escape the hustle and bustle of NYC, but it did the trick. The host was communicative and responded right away to any questions. Much appreciated. One drawback for me was that WIFI was really only accessible from one of the bedrooms, as was the TV. But the astounding selection of CDs and the piano in the living area were delightful. All in all, a great, great getaway!
A CATSKILL GEM OF PEACEFUL SOLITUDE
We stayed for a week in mid summer and it was a most enjoyable and relaxing visit. The place was clean as a whistle and well equipped. Beds and furniture were very comfortable. The only negative aspects for me and my family was the lack of an outdoor fire pit or anyplace outside to light a campfire to sit around, which probably is the #1 thing on many upstate NY visitors' do list. Stoking a fire under the stars and throwing back a few cocktails is not only a ritual for me and my (NYC) tribe, it is a family tradition and not being able to do this in such beautiful and peaceful surroundings was a great disappointment. The place did have a woodstove in the living room and an unlimited supply of firewood, but lighting an indoor fire in August would be impractical for obvious reasons. Also, having the only available TV on the premises in the master bedroom left the other guests with no way to entertain themselves once my wife and I went to bed (which is usually pretty early). This arrangement confounded me and left the other guests in our party whining about it every night. In summation, the place itself and the location are hard to beat, but the lack of an outdoor fire pit and the TV limitations leave the place lacking in two significant "family entertainment" areas. I would consider another stay, but unless the firepit & TV issues were addressed, it would have to be just me and my wife and it would have to be in the dead of winter when we could fire up the woodstove.
Thank you for taking the time to review my property. I will consider your recommendations, however I would like to add that in addition to over 100 dvds and video tapes I provide over 300 CD's and hundreds of books for entertainment purposes.
Great skiing weekend
We really enjoyed our stay in Catskills. We skied 2 days in Belleayre ski resort(25mins away) and 1 day in Plattekill (20 mins away). Cabin was very comfortable, wood stove was great since the temperatures hovered around 20-25 degrees at night. Hot tub was a God send after a day of skiing. We will be back, thank you again.
The scenery was beautiful, hot tub was great!! The house was clean and had all basic necessities. Driveway got icy and could be difficult for small car to drive up it.
Ice is unusual on the driveway and there is a snow plowing service for the property.
