Seclusion Waits for You.
The wife and I have been going to th Hawaiian Islands since 1994. After visiting all Islands we decided on Maui "The Valley Isle", and the location at Ma'alaea. This was the most centrally located place on the Isle that we could find and the last undeveloped area. Ma'alaea is a nice little quaint harbor village. When we want busy we can drive the 20 to 30 minutes and retunr to our "Hideaway"
The Owner purchased this condo in 1999
We chose to buy at Ma'alaea because it is easy to get to from the airport and still is very remote, which keeps it from geting to crowded. When we bought the Ma'alaea Triangle (Ma'alaea Harbor Shops) did not exist. Now it is quaint little village with novelty shops and 5 lowrise restaurantes. Some people drive right past Ma'alaea and not even know it was there, it is behind the sugar cane fields.
Another Nice feature is that we are next to Ma'alaea/Sugar Beach, which walk most mornings and if we see 20 people , that is a crowd. You can walk all the way to Kihei and back. You can wake and sit on the Lanai and watch the ocean come alive, or visit our "Tidepools" in front of our location as I do every morning.
Stayed here 2/09/2010. It was a great choice for us. It was everything Wendal said it would be and more. Very clean, well equipped and a great location. Great ocean front location, watched the whales, turtles everyday from or balcony.
My wife and I stayed in this compact but well maintained condo for two weeks this past March. All amenities are provided from coffee brewer to ice maker as well as pool toys snorkeling equipment, etc. The view from the second floor lanai was spectacular and we were able to see whales and sea turtles during our time there. I've stayed on Maui in the past but always in the Ka'anapali area. This place, Ma'alaea, is much quieter and less congested and is centrally located to other attractions on the island. Several golf courses are nearby as is the Aquarium. We really enjoyed the swap meet/farmers market held at Maui Community College on Saturday mornings. There was excellent produce, friendly vendors, and a nice selection of Maui keepsakes to bring home.
I'd highly recommend this Maui getaway. Note that it sleeps four, but it is compact, so you better all be close friends! I should mention that the owner was very responsive and called us several times to make certain we had everything we needed. Nice touch!
We really enjoyed our stay for two weeks! Very centrally located to visit other areas of Maui. It's a short walk to the Harbor on one end and a short stroll to the other end is the Haycraft Beach Park access with miles of beach to walk! There's a shower area to wash off the sand at the park (& at the condo). It gets a little crowded on the weekends with the locals, but it's entertaining and during the week more private. My husband and I walked to Sugar Beach Resort a few times (almost 3 miles one way) and enjoyed a bite at Dina's Sandwitch (fun unique place to go - opens at 11:00 am). We agree with the other positive reviews so won't duplicate info. We would recommend this unit for a couple or single person, unless you want to use the pull-out bed, but it would be tight. We were able to watch whales from the lanai with our binoculars (the unit does have binoculars, but ours are easier to focus). The complex has it's own private smaller beach we enjoyed almost nightly watching the boats, some whales and turtles swimming. I would recommend getting your own oil/butter, coffee and all food essentials (Costco is close to the airport). The unit is well equipped with pots/pans, dishes, serving/cooking utensils, beach towels, etc. There are coffee filters, salt and pepper and some cooking sprays and one steak seasoning. Would also recommend shutting the drapes once the sunrise turns into direct morning sun, since it can get very warm for a couple hours (good time to hit the road/beach!); though once it passes, the breeze and views are wonderful the rest of the day! There is an air conditioner for those that prefer that, but we don't.
The Maui Dive Shop rents snorkel gear in the harbor, and is very convenient to return. The harbor also has a few eateries that were okay depending on the day. The Happy Hour at Three's in Kihei is a great spot with local shopping booths, also the Happy Hour at 5 Palms & great calamari (can rent paddle boards, kayaks, etc. too). Captain Steve's whale watching excursion was very good. Highly recommend the hike around Dragon's Teeth in Kapalua! The traffic during high season is the drawback, so be patient and go early to your destinations. There is plenty to see and do in Maui and two weeks didn't feel long enough; recommend reading the Maui Revealed book (there's an older release in the unit). The beauty of this condo is its stellar ocean-front view and sounds!!! Enjoy!
My husband and I very much enjoyed staying in this condo for a month and will return next year. It is not a large unit but fine for a couple. It has a nice stove and from the kitchen one can look out at the view of the ocean. We cooked all our meals but one, bought candles and ate dinner outside on the balcony most evenings. Coffee in the mornings, watching the sunrise was also a highlight. The condo building is quiet, has a very helpful onsight manager, ample parking and pretty grounds. Most of our days began with a short walk to Sugar Beach, swimming and snorkelling and sitting in the shade afterwards watching the turtles. We saw lots of whales very close in Maalaea Bay. We also swam at Wailea beach and Kapalua, both lovely. The security of the building is very good, especially as the owner gives the guest a code to enter the unit. He is also very easy to contact by phone or email. We look forward to going back next January.
The condo is well situated on the island, being about 15 minutes from the airport and inbetween Lahiana and Kihea. The condo is very quiet, neat and clean. Items to care for the condo and yourself are provided. The view from the lanai is beautiful. You can leave the windows open at night and fall asleep to the sounds of the waves as they lap onto the beach. Sugar Beach is a 4 minute walk away from the condo and that beach is great for walking and sun bathing. Also, a 4 minute walk away from the condo in the other direction, is the harbor shopping area with a few nice tourist stores, a restaurant and the aquarium. The condo is nicely furnished and the bed was very comfortable.
Though four persons can stay at the condo, that would be a little crowded. The couch in the living room folds out to a bed, but that makes things "tight" for everyone.
The owner was very responsive and very helpful. He was very helpful in his suggestions of what to see and where to go while in Maui and even sent us numerous brochures to help us decide what to do while there.
The condo property has a very small sandy beach, however, in the morning and evenings a number of turtles come very close to the shore and are fun to watch.
I would highly recommend this property to stay at while in Maui.
My husband and I absolutely loved Maalaea Banyans. We explored the whole island (except we skipped out on the road to Hana) and don't think we could have picked a better place to stay. The Condo was perfect for us - quiet second floor, away from the pool area. Oceanfront view. Reasonable price. Perfect for couples, not too many young children. The view from the lanai was spectacular. We watched the sun rise over Haleakala every morning. The complex was very quiet, clean, and perfectly maintained. We loved Maalaea. The complex is about a block away from a 7-mile long quiet sandy beach. There is a beach in front, but it's small with rocks out front. Maui has a lot of sea urchins so I wouldn't recommend wading out onto the rocks - but if you're careful it is possible to put on fins in the shallow and snorkel out over the rocks without damaging the sea life. Being a block north of the public beach (and inaccessible from there because of bulkheads on either side) was nice because we didn't get the campers and beach traffic in front of our condo.
Maalaea is a small town on the dry side of the island on the edge of the valley between the 2 mountains, in a harbor that is mostly protected from the open ocean. There are only a handful of condos and no hotels. We were able to see the weather and somewhat predict where the rain would be just by watching the clouds blow over the mountains on the north and south shores. If we saw Kihei was clouded over we would go north to Lahaina and vice versa. We were able to avoid the rain for most of our trip. Being in the valley between the mountains means Maalaea is windy. My husband and I enjoyed the wind. It kept the weather and our condo from getting too hot. We never needed to turn on the air conditioner. We just opened the windows on both sides of the condo and let it blow through.
We really only found 1 viable restaurant in Maalaea but it had the best happy hour we could find - Beach Bums - great BBQ and their mai tais were stiff and cheap ($3.50 during happy hour 3-6PM).
The condo had everything we could possibly need including a fully furnished kitchen, plenty of towels, beach chairs, boogie board, etc. We had a great dive trip with Ed Robinson Scuba and took a bike ride down Haleakala. Overall, best vacation we've had yet. Can't wait to come back.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The view was spectacular and the grounds were kept up beautifully. We sat out every morning on the beach and watching the sea turtles became a daily event. The location was perfect, close to our favorite shopping spots and restaurants. We got to go to Mama's Fish House, a special treat every time we get to go to Maui. Toured the middle of the island this time and drove to Hana. If you get the chance stop at the arboretum on your way to Hana, it was our first time, flowers and the view were wonderful. We look forward to coming back, hated to leave. Highly recommend!!
Ma'alaea Harbor / Village is a 5 min walk from our 'Hideaway'. There you can find boating, snorkeling, scuba diving and sailing adventures. In Ma'alaea Village you can find the world famous Maui Ocean Center which also has a 100' acrylic tube underwater you can walk through. There are multiple restaurants and stores in the Village also. All this within walking distance. Ma'alaea is the last undeveloped area on the Island and is centrally located and not busy. You can drive to busy in 15 - 25 min, depending on where you want to go. You then can return to seclusion and not busy to relax. Ma'alaea - 180 deg from Ordinary
