We visited in August of 2013. The house was great for what we needed. As the owners will tell you do not expect a 5 star hotel but do expect plenty of room and everything you need other then food. We had a large group of people with us and there was plenty of room for everyone to sleep comfortably. If you rent the boat it is good for cruises and fishing, plus the row boat, the kayaks, paddle boat was great for evening fishing near the house. The lake was as blue as people say, the fishing was fair. I did catch a few good bass out of the weeds and we may have broke a record for catching the smallest fish in the lake. All in all it was a great week and we would rent there again.
We had all 11 of us in the house very comfortably. The property was fairly well maintained, and the lake was excellent. Rooms were well insulated so noisy card players downstairs didn't wake sleeping grandkids upstairs. Neighborhood was quiet (except for the July 4 fireworks) and folks on the road (walking) were all friendly. Kitchen and other practical needs were in fine shape.
Only slight drawbacks: we were surprised to find there was almost no toilet paper when we arrived. Had to make a quick trip for TP and garbage bags. The mattresses were not that great. Coin toss left losers the air mattress bouncy bed.
There are a large number of water toys available, but if you're interested you need to ask ahead. The sailboats, pontoons, etc were not on the list of permissible stuff in the book at the house. There's a convenience store, very basic, a few miles away. Real groceries are 15 minutes away in Hillman.
Time and money for week-long vacations are not easy to find. When you decide on a destination, you want it to be perfect. Annie and Henry have just such a place. You get absolutely everything you'd hoped for. With 12 in our party we needed room. Their home is more than accommodating. Easily fit our party with plenty left over. Within minutes, we all felt 'at home'. It never felt like a rental. Queen beds for all, no lines for the bathroom, Caribbean blue water (seriously, it's like a postcard), linens and towels for a small army, fully equipped kitchen, canoe/ kayaks/ rowboat, toys and lifejackets. Did I mention the water? We spent most of every day on the private beach and even into the night with the requisite bonfire and S'mores. The only time we left the grounds was groceries in town, fireworks in Alpena (20min drive), and ice cream @ Lickety Splits. Every one of us will treasure this memory. How do you put a price on that? Save yourself some time and stop shopping now. You won't find a better deal than this one.
great vacation spot! lots to do in the area (golfing, biking, etc) for our family of 4 adult sibs, partners, and mother. the lake was clean and calm, and very amenable to using the various available boats. an added bonus were the loons calling in the nights. the property was just as adverised - big bedrooms, well equipped and just plain comfortable.
We had a total of 15 (8 adults and 7 kids between the ages of 6 and 22) stay for a week. Had a blast kayaking and canoeing and using the paddle boat. Very clear lake and calm for skiing or tubing. Good size yard allows room for lawn games and all 15 of us were able to sit around the campfire down by the lake. The upper deck is one of the best features of the house and we ate many of our meals there and just sat around talking and enjoying life. Plenty of room inside for sleeping and playing games. This is one of our best vacations and we have been going up north to different lakes and renting for the past 14 years.
Great time had by all. Grandkids and adults ages 3 thru 14 all had fun swimming and fishing. Nobody was bored. Great golf in area. Peaceful lake and clear water. House had plenty of room and large kitchen, clean and well maintained. Owner helped us find a pontoon rental. Would recommend to anyone.
