We are a retired couple from Ontario, Canada
We stayed 9 nights at the guest house. This was our second trip to Costa Rica and this house was so clean and stocked with everything to have a comfortable and cozy stay. We enjoyed eating breakfast every morning out on the veranda where the dining table is and you can see why it is wonderful sitting out there listening to all the birds. Dennis and Laurice have a list of nearby beaches and we went to almost every one of them. Their suggestion for the local tico resturant, Restaurante Terraba, was our favorite. We went there two nights and were very pleased with the food we ordered. This was a great location for beaches. Dominical was great for buying goods from locals on the beach and restaurant Pescado Loco has great fish tacos! Not a bad drive to some of the national parks. Manuel Antonio National Park in Quepos is a must see. Would recommend and would stay here again. Thank you Dennis and Laurice.
We had a lovely 10 day stay at this guest house. Beautiful, quiet property close to several beaches, restaurants and natural attractions! Laurice and Dennis were very helpful and attentive with any questions we had. Had a great stay, would recommend! :)
We stayed at Dennis and Laurice's guest house for 9 nights in late February/early March, and loved both the house and the area. The house is very well outfitted, and has a beautiful view of gardens and the mountains across the valley. Dennis and Laurice are perfect hosts - providing privacy yet available to offer information and assistance (inc coconut water for an upset stomach!). We especially appreciated a drive with Dennis to show us the nearby sites, beaches and restaurants in order to get oriented. The house is a great location from which to explore the area - about an hour's drive to Sierpe, 15 minutes to Uvita, and the village itself is definitely worth exploring (bakeries, restaurants, lots of back roads to wander), plus several beaches nearby - our favourite was Playa Ventanas, just a few minutes' drive. Oh, almost forgot the lovely pool!
What a lovely vacation home Laurice & Dennis' guest house is. Hard to judge when the posted photos were taken, but the amazing pace of growth of their gardens suggests at least 2 years ago. But the house is as fresh and pristine as the mountains in the background. I could sit with a coffee or a cerveza for hours watching the clouds build, swirl and retreat over the mountains (they rarely reach Ojochal itself but provide spring water for household use and gentle garden watering). The property is built on sold notches cut into valleys between smaller hills and is easily accessible from the paved coastal road. Laurice had thought of pretty well everything you might need in the kitchen dept. and provides an amazing array of linens, towels, sheets etc. There is a lovely shaded patio in the "front" of the guest house where you can sit and watch the mountains change, and listen to the cicadas, the toucans and parrots. There's another small patio at the south east side of the house which can get a little hot in the afternoon but which for most of the day is right on the flight path of birds (like a caracara) that glide past to alight in trees lower down in the garden. If you are doing any amount of self-catering - there are two excellent supermercados (supermarkets) in Uvita - but there are two smaller but well stocked supermercados in Ojochal itself. If you want good food and pampering, there is a great choice of restaurants both in the village and in either direction along the coastal road. We have visited Costa Rica many times, but our stay in Ojochal stands out. Want some adventure? Ask Laurice to link you up with Lalo for horseback riding up in the lower mountain trails (Lalo also supplies gardeners to maintain properties like this one and when you stop at Lalo's home a short distance from the guest house to start your horse ride you'll see a garden that is outstanding in the community).

Linda and I would like to extend our sincere thanks to Laurice and Dennis for their hospitality during our recent stay, February 2 – 7, at their Casita.
From the tour of the local area to the education regarding the local wildlife and the details of owning a home in Costa Rica, every conversation was a complete pleasure. They are truly a lovely couple and are most willing to ensure your stay in their Casita and in Ojochal is everything you hoped it to be.
The Casita itself is all anyone could ask for when looking for a home base to explore the area from. The morning mountain view while enjoying a coffee and listening to the howler monkeys in the distances is as peaceful as you could ask for. Late afternoons spent by the pool while listening to the distant waves is just what the doctor ordered.
Be sure to take their recommendations for local dinners and make reservations when suggested. You don’t want to miss out of some of the wonderful restaurants in the area. Do remember to rent a 4X4 if you are planning to drive the roads in this area. It really is a necessity.
Wonderful location, excellent value and lovely people. We are already planning a return next year.
We must echo the positive reviews of those who have come before. "Heliconia" casita is easily accessed from the coastal highway (4x4 vehicle best) and perfectly located to take advantage of the the fine restaurants of Ojochal - the culinary capital of Costa Rica. It's a perfect mid-way point to day trip south to Sierpe and the Osa and north to Manuel Antonio and points in between. Our hosts, Laurice and Dennis, took us on an orientation tour of the immediate area on arrival which opened up all sorts of possibilities for exploration during our week's stay.
The house is comfortable and the kitchen well equipped for simple meal preparation. We enjoyed sitting on our patio in the evening watching darkness descend on our mountain view and awaiting the cooling evening offshore breeze to take away the heat of the day.
We fell into a rhythm of exploring the area in the morning (Sierpe is a must) and enjoying the glorious saltwater pool and fabulous gardens in the heat of the afternoon. The "sails" above and around the pool assured shade was always possible.
Although the casita sits on the same gloriously landscaped lot as the owners' home, our privacy was never compromised. The casita is physically set apart. Laurice and Dennis are very conscious of respecting personal space, but make themselves available to answer any questions and offer advice. When we did come together. we throughly enjoyed our conversations, particularly about the history of Ojochal. Learning about the development of this unique village is a Costa Rican exploration in and of itself.
