Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This large 2-story home is on a beautiful and tranquil tidal creek located in a quiet and serene neighborhood near Darien on the Georgia coast. It is convenient to I-95, Savannah, Brunswick, St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and Jacksonville, FL and is surrounded by majestic oaks draped with Spanish moss. The house has large windows and doors allowing beautiful views of the river and marshes. There is a screened porch and large deck overlooking the river from the main level and a large deck and lanai overlooking the river downstairs.

The Kitchen has Jenn-Air and Bosch appliances and overlooks the dining area and a large family room with fireplace. The Master Suite, which is almost as large as the kitchen, dining, and family area, has a king Select Comfort (sleep number) bed, sitting area, fireplace, mini-office, and spacious bathroom with large soaking tub and private shower and toilet. The other bedrooms are large with private vanities and beautiful views of the outdoors. Open the casement windows to enjoy the coastal breezes or take advantage of ceiling fans in every room.

There are 2 single person kayaks, 1 double kayak, and a canoe that can be enjoyed during your stay. There are also paddles for the canoe and kayaks, life jackets, and adult and kids bicycles in the 2-car garage. The biking is relaxed and beautiful while winding through the live oaks and wildlife that cover the peninsula. There is also great bird-watching with a nature trail that allows you access to rare and exotic wildlife.

There is a marina with a lift and boat ramp only minutes away where you can put your boat in the water and purchase bait. Bring your boat, tie it to the dock, and enjoy it for fishing, water skiing, tubing, and access to the nearby islands. But please note, no personal water craft (PWCs) are allowed and idle speed (no wake) is required near docks and boats.

If your goal is to find quiet and spacious relaxation, you'll find that here. And if you're looking for activities that connect you with the outdoors and renew your spirit, it's here and within your reach. Either way, the tranquility and variety of Coastal Georgia is only a click and a phone call away.

About Cindy Irwin

We love the relaxing atmosphere of our home and the appeal of the Darien area. We also enjoy bringing the kids down with their friends to fish, swim, ride bikes, and canoe.

Our favorite places to go and eat are B&J's in Darien, which have the best fried shrimp around, and Willie's Weenie Wagon in Brunswick for their fish sandwich, fries, and sweet tea.

Cindy Irwin/Owner/Agent-Licensed Realtor in state of Georgia for Solid Source Realty.

Cindy Irwin purchased this house in 2007

Why Cindy Irwin chose Coastal Georgia

Jeff is from this area and in 1989 we were married in the old Presbyterian Church in Darien. This was my Mother's home and is where we had our wedding reception. We wanted to keep the home in our family to be able to enjoy the beauty and fun of this community and area. We also wanted our children to experience this special part of Georgia.

What makes this house unique

There is a deep hole right below the dock where the fishing is often tremendous! In fact, it's common for folks to travel some distance by boat to fish here. In addition, porpoise feed here on most low tides and manatees are sometimes seen during the summer.

Wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

Such a nice place to spend a relaxing week. Everything is provided and there is so much attention to detail. We enjoyed biking, walking in the beautiful neighborhood, crabbing, fishing, kayaking and canoeing, playing board games and watching the beautiful views. We saw dolphins everyday. The sunsets were beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at your lovely home for 10 glorious days. Our ages were from 4 - 85! Each one enjoyed and was able to truly call this a home away from home. The owners truly outdid

themselves focusing on the details from kitchen utensils, to extra towels, nice sheets to extra everything you could ever need. The furnishings were very nice and I especially enjoyed the large dining table as we were all able to enjoy a meal together! We loved walking and exploring Darien. So many cute hideouts and fun restaurants to enjoy. Tolomato Island in itself brings you back to lost time with the wonderful mighty old oaks and mossy trees planking all the streets. The bikes helped explore this wonderful hideaway. The fishing on the dock was so fun to see the grandchildren and even "bigger" kids catch the sheep head fish, reds and other interesting fish. The dolphin visits every day was a highlight as well. Because the house faces west, the sunsets were unmatched. If you are looking for a place away from it all..this is the spot. Its a good 40 minute drive to St. Simons but we planned accordingly and knew when we arrived back to the house..we would have a beautiful sanctuary of peace waiting on us! . If you are handicapped or just need help with stairs...the stair lift truly was a blessing to my sweet Mom. Thank you Cindy for sharing your special home with our family. We just loved it!

Awesome sunsets, peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in May and were prepared for Southern heat but were amazingly greeted by a wonderful breeze which engulfs this island/peninsula home most of the time as I am told by the friendly neighbors. The house was clean, very comfortable and had everything we needed- so nice not to have to lug everything with you. Sheets/towels/toiletries provided were big plus! We enjoyed walking/biking in this beautiful enchanting Southern landscape with the Live Oaks and their draping moss. Most of all we enjoyed the western facing location with dramatic sunsets over the marsh which captivated our souls-only to be topped with star studded nightscapes! I am currently painting a picture of one of the sunsets over the marsh which is mitigating the effects of vacation withdrawal! The provision of the kayaks/canoe and all necessary gear was most convenient and enjoyed--go left or go right from the dock and the paddling is good! We enjoyed watching the fish and crabs as the tides rolled in and out but unfortunately did not get to see porpoises or alligators (the second of which my sister was glad of!). We explored quaint town of Darien and Jekyll island from this centrally located house after spending the first 2 nights in beautiful historic Savannah but this house is close enough to Savannah for easy daytrips. We also explored Bonaventure Cemetary, Fort Pulaski, Tybee island and Wormsloe Plantation, all worth seeing! Recommend Vic's on the Water in Savannah (shrimp and grits are to die for!) Also recommend the outdoor setting and the food of The Crab Shack on way to Tybee Island. My husband, sister and brother in law all enjoyed relaxing in the house! We appreciated the promptness and attentiveness of the owners, The Irwins and enjoyed the books they have about the area, especially Sapelo Island which we unfortunately did not get to see. We are grateful to them for sharing their home and especially for allowing us to bring our Belgian Sheep Dog, Atticus, as it is that my husband will not go on vacation without his dog! Thanks again! (The only thing that I would recommend is an outdoor picnic table for eating crabs.)

4 Yankees from Baltimore with dog! (all currently experiencing vacation withdrawal effects-Northerners just don't do grits like the Southerners)

Owner's Response: 4 Yankees from Baltimore! You guys are so sweet. 'm sorry it's taken me 5 days to respond. When I read your review I was blown away that you took the time out of your day to write such a thoughtful review. I can't begin to tell you how it made me feel when I read it. Thank-you so much! You are a great writer. I had to read multiple times because the way you describe the view of the sunsets etc. Exactly how I feel when I get to be down there. The stars too are unbelievable. I've been out there at times and seen multiple shooting stars. I would love it if you'd send me a picture of the picture you are painting. :) Thanks you too for sharing all of the great information for other travelers. Some of the places you visited I've never been to like Wormsloe Plantation and Bonaventure Cementary. These places sound interesting and hopefully we'll be checking them out in the next year. I'm still dying to go to Cumberland Island to see the horses. Hopefully, Atticus enjoyed himself too. :) From one mid-western (Indiana) transplanted yankee to another...............we hope you'll return. We intend to get a picnic table as you suggested and think that is a great idea!! Thank-you for your suggestion and your review. Cindy and Jeff

Great house with fantastic views!

  • 5 of 5

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Irwin's! The house has a great layout! The views from the house, the deck and the dock were phenomenal. We saw dolphins feeding in the river almost daily. We saw alligators in th small pond up the road and stingrays in the river when we took the canoe out. We were able to fish and crab off the dock at the house and the public dock which is a short walk down the street. We can't wait to plan our next visit!
