Perfect relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

Il Turello is completely secluded offering the perfect relaxing holiday. It is situated on a wooded hillside giving great views of the valley below. The patio and pool area were a highlight, we spent a lot of time relaxing here. As well as a well equipped kitchen there is a wood fired pizza oven and BBQ's so you are never short of options if you don't want to go out to eat. Inside there is fireplace which we made use of on some of the colder September evenings. The whole property was clean and well maintained.

Barga is close by offering a selection of restaurants and smaller shops. Slightly further away in Gallicano there is a large supermarket.

As other reviews say the first drive up to Il Turello is a bit daunting, however you soon get used to it. We managed it in a fairly large automatic estate car in the rain without issue, a 4x4 is really not necessary.

Our 10 days went by far too quickly and we would love to return if we get the chance.

A perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful location and very comfortable place to stay. The property was very clean and well-maintained with good equipment and wi-fi signal. The owner was very helpful. The only draw back would be if you had a very large car and didn't like a narrow road with sharp bends. However the privacy and great views compensate for this inconvenience. There were four of us aged between early 60's and 20's and we all had a great time and would highly recommend this property.

A fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Turello. I can honestly say we have never stayed in such a perfect setting. The views are stunning and the pool was great - our girls loved swimming in it every day. The location was good - we enjoyed trips to Barga, Lucca, the climbing forest and even a day in Florence. Yes the drive to the house is daunting on that first arrival but it is so worth it. We would love to return one day!

Relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday at Il Turello. The property was very clean on arrival and all facilities were as described. Amadeo and his wife were extremely welcoming and on hand for any questions. The gardens, pool and views were some of the best we have experienced. Barga provided many restaurants to sample and nearby Lucca was definitely worth a visit. We would recommend this property albeit with its very steep entrance!

A house with a view

  • 5 of 5

Il Turello provided us with the perfect holiday. It is totally private with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, and the owner, Amadeo, is charming and funny, helpful if you need it but never intrusive. The wonderful swimming pool was the icing on the cake, we had some lovely evenings stargazing and even though there is so much to do and see in this beautiful area, it was tempting to just stay put!

The local town of Barga has lots to see and lots of nice little places to eat. Further afield is the medieval town of Lucca, well worth a day trip and don't miss the Ponte di Diavolo on the way.

Just one note of caution - the road up to the house is extremely steep so if flying hire yourself the smallest 4x4 you can - it gets easier with practice and is totally worth the effort.

We left totally relaxed and refreshed, and I very much hope we will return in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We agree that the surroundings here are breathtaking and it is good to hear you enjoyed the place and also Barga itself which is a wonderful little town. The approach road does take some getting used to, but just for future guests, do note most guests go without a 4x4 car, and is is very do-able without - I think the first time is the most daunting, but as this review says, it is worth it! Hope to hear from you again Sally Lorraine at tuscan-retreats
