I had to edit this description because I'm getting inundated with requests: I DO NOT RENT "NIGHTS" OR "LONG WEEKENDS" IN THE SUMMER SEASON. No one on Nantucket does. That's what hotels are for.
A new, custom designed home on Nantucket, 3 miles from town, ¼ mile walk to beach, or drive ½ mile to beach. The home is surrounded by 100’s of acres of conservation land. This 5 bed/bath “upside down” home was designed to take advantage of the great sunset views from the upper deck. A “Great Room” has the kitchen and dining area, and a comfortable living area. There are two master suites, one with a private sitting room that leads to a private porch and deck. There is a media room with Internet connection. Quiet location. A detached garage has the beach chairs which can be used by the renter.
I’m the owner. I just became aware of the one negative review for my listing. I have been renting my home for nine summers. Over 9-years, I'm guessing that's about 126 rentals. And out of that 126 I have ONE negative review?
VRBO does not allow me the space to fully respond. If you want to know details, contact me directly. I can tell you the reviewer rented the year before and was difficult.
The doors were damaged when Nantucket was hit by a nor’easter and were, literally, pulled from the house. When I ordered the new doors I sent a notice to EVERY renter describing the damage and showed the access to the deck. Not one wrote back, including this reviewer.
When the doors were ready no renter before her - and herself – would not allow the carpenters come and install them. Here's the "hardship" over those doors my first renter that year suffered and wrote in my guestbook: “We had a fabulous vacation….Thank you for the use of your lovely home. We were so comfortable here and many lasting memories were made.” She enjoyed the house as did every other renter. Why didn’t the reviewer?
I found out the clothes washer in the cottage was broken when the reviewer did and had it fixed in 48-hours. The reviewer never mentions that I PAID my cleaning people to come every day, collect their laundry, wash, dry, and return it. And they continued to do this even AFTER the washer was fixed!
The SECOND outdoor shower was not inaccessible because of overgrowth.
The "growth" was roses, honeysuckle, and tall grasses surrounding the shower pad to give privacy when you are outdoors and NAKED! No other renter had this problem.
The reviewer failed to mention that my caretaker went to town and bought new beach umbrellas for her. And he charged me $60 for the umbrellas – and another $75 for his time! She has no complaint at all here.
The security deposit. All she was owed was refunded. I let her slide on the extra laundry fees and I did not yet know about the umbrellas. For tax purposes I keep all invoices. If she wanted to see the cleaning bill, all she had to do was ask. She didn't.
The sofas were two sofas that were custom made, upholstered in silk fabric. And they cost $12,500. Each. They were damaged over the years by renters. It was going to take 9-months to get them reupholstered and $7K. Too long and too much. Both were replaced this year. Other than this reviewer and one other, no one complained.
My husband, teenage son and I recently stayed at this property. We found the house to be beautifully decorated and fully equipped with all the amenities one could want in a Nantucket rental. The furniture, linens, beach towels, chairs, etc all seemed to be new. The views off the back deck look out over conservation land and offer distant water views. The sky at sunset was not to be missed. Our family decided to eat every meal at home because we could not imagine a more beautiful setting at any of the local restaurants.
The layout of this house lends itself to large groups and entertaining but is cozy enough to not feel immense for smaller families such as ours. Although the walk to the beach is doable it is a bit far to carry beach chairs etc. But there are so many wonderful beaches on Nantucket that you can drive and park at that what this home offers in terms of privacy and tranquility is worth that slight inconvenience.
The owner of this property was responsive, accommodating and eager to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. When we had a slight problem with the Internet he had the Internet provider contact me and also walked me through steps that promptly fixed the problem. We truly enjoyed our stay and, if schedules allow, would return again next year.
There were numerous problems with this rental. The upholstery was dirty and torn; one of the two sliding doors to the deck did not work and made use of the full deck impossible; the washer was broken as were the beach umbrellas; the outdoor shower was inaccessible because of overgrowth, etc. On top of this, our security deposit was not returned within the contracted one month period, and when it was several hundred dollars was deducted without the required documentation of expenses.
Very secluded as nearest neighbors are at least 1/4 mile away and a wetlands preserve are on one side. Very clean, modern design with an outstanding second floor deck off the great room/dining/kitchen. Fireplace faces both inside and outside deck great for cool nights. Private baths for each bedroom
The property is accessed via a private road and is in an area that is low, rolling conservation meadow on three sides with wildlife habitat. Distant water views of Nantucket Sound a short walk away. Conservation land to the west will soon have nature walks. Bike trails to town and beach were put in years ago. Sunsets are wonderful and the reason the house was designed the way it was. There are few homes in the area, all are on 2-acre parcels that cannot be sub-divided.
