A traditional, Michigan, lakefront cottage/home on a bluff 6 miles north of Rogers City. This cozy home accommodates 4 - 6 people with most amenities. Great beach walks, sunrises and sunsets. Located only 3/4 mile from the 40 Mile Point Light House. Good fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, cross country skiing, are just outside your door. The private wooded setting is entered through a 300' paved driveway.
The spectacular views of Lake Huron are breath taking. Relax on the multi-tiered deck overlooking the lake and watch the Great Lake freighters or explore the beautiful beach front and search for that Lake Huron stone that may entice your love of nature. Ride or walk the 10 mile paved bike path along the water front to Calsite - the world's largest limestone mine. Explore the Rogers City marina or golf the Country Club.
Bring your own bicycles or use mine. Six (6) bicycles provided for use on the bike path to and from Rogers City.
If you like a quiet place where you can relax, listen to the waves hitting the shoreline, enjoy a breeze off the water, have a refreshment on the deck over looking Lake Huron and explore the shores of Michigan you have found the right place.
Chris Kurowski purchased this cottage in 1998
I purchase this cottage in 1998 for my family to enjoy and get away from our busy schedule. In 2006 my wife passed away and my kids moved to a new life thereafter on the west coast. The cottage rather than be an vacant nice place is now a year round home to anyone interested in wanting to enjoy the outdoors or just relax to their own schedule. Most guests return the following year for they have confirmed Relaxation on Lake Huron is just what says it is.
The great view of the water is unbeatable. Just terrific. You will be awed. If you like walks down the beach you will always remember this one. The 40 Mile Point light house is just 3/4 of a mile north and it will entertain your interest. Bicycling, walking, running, or just loafing will be energized with the possibilities presented. A 10 mile paved path that boarders the water and winds through some of the forests will open your mind to the beauty of Michigan.
My guest post a couple of cons in their review and I would like to respond. First of all pictures do not lie. My pictures included in my postings are what they are and the view of the lake is a bit obscured with some trees and scrubs. I trim and clear these areas in the spring in an attempt to provide a better setting and view of the Lake Huron. I agree more can be done but not without sacrificing others view which are more positive of the lake. Also, there can be an erosion issue on the hill if I would remove trees in greater quantities. I have chosen to be selective and retain the beauty of the trees and the lake.
In further response to the lack of A/C in the home. About once every 10 years or more we are blessed or cursed with some warmer weather in the north country. It is well taken that some fans may help these rare happenings. I will get a couple of fans to help.
Overall, a great stay. Our first through a VRBO. Accomodations were more than enough for my wife and I. We happened to stay on a unusually hot weekend...for northern Michigan. Our only disappointment was other than a ceiling fan there was nothing to keep the inside cool. We didn't realize how little the wind blows on Lake Huron. We are accustomed to the westerly wind of Lake Michigan We were fortunate to find a fan nearby in Rogers City. One of those little things you don't think to bring or ask about prior to staying. Leaving the windows open on the front of the house at night helped too. That's when/where the breeze would pass through. Awesome sunrises on the beach below. Even caught a strawberry colored moon rise off the water. Coffee in the morning sitting outside watching the birds pass through the trees. Got exactly what I had hoped for when I booked this place. Worth every minute we had there. Made a great anniversary weekend memory. Thanks!!
Cons: No view of the lake. The hillside leading down to the lake is over grown with small pines and scrub trees obscuring the view from both the house and the deck on the steps. No air conditioning. House temp can only be regulated by opening and closing windows. We struggled to get the temp below 80. We went to the local hardware store and bought a fan, then we were fine. I suggest that Chris buy a couple of fans for the rooms and then it would be no problem to not have A/C.
Pros: Extremely quiet and private! House is comfortably furnished. Ocqueoc Falls is a must see. The family can easily spend a day swimming in the falls. Tahquamenon Falls is only a couple of hours a away, so that is a fun day trip (don't forget Oswald Bears :)). The bikes are great on the walking and bike trail. The bikes Chris has are nice. Plenty of areas to see the lake and some beach areas close by. The lime stone quarry is interesting. The fire pit is relaxing, you will want to pick up some wood for the fire that is dry. Chris has games for the family and some movies for fun time at the cabin. We enjoyed ourselves and had a great time. As noted there is plenty to do near by, and the cabin is relaxing and private if you don't want to go any where. Chris also refunded our security deposit very promptly.
Large property with room to gather with family on the patio or around the fire pit. Larger than it appears in the photos. Would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet getaway.
This is a lovely, small cottage sitting above Lake Huron. There are stairs required to get to the beach, and honestly this year the water is so high, there isn't much beach, plus there are rocks in the water at this point of Lake Huron. However, there is a patio facing the water, and a side yard with a firepit and grassy area which worked great for us and would provide room for some play space for kids. The cottage is also within relatively easy walking distance (along the water) or biking distance (bikes available at the cottage) to some small, sandy public beaches, as well as Hoeft State Park and the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse. The Lighthouse complex is well taken care of by a local volunteer group and worth a visit.
The cottage itself was clean, cozy and comfortable. It's very quiet with only the occasional sound from the neighbors; mostly it's just the birds and the sound of the waves hitting the beach. It was very private and just what my husband and I needed to get away from work, the news and everything else.
We did a fall getaway. The cottage was wonderful, clean, and comfortable, very quiet and private. Beautiful view of Lake Huron. Would definitely recommend for a week or weekend stay. Nearby hiking trails .
My fiance and I stayed at the cottage during mid-August. I was so grateful to have found a lakefront location that would accommodate a weekday to weekday stay rather than a Saturday to Saturday, and that would allow us to bring our dog. It was easy to find off 23. The home was very clean, well-appointed, and comfortable. The property was beautiful and private with its tall birch trees and long staircase to the beach, allowing us to let our dog off-leash to roam around. The lakefront here is beautiful--clear water and a major view of the lake. We made ample use of the kitchen to cook most of the meals we had during our stay, the innertubes in the garage, the fire pit, and the beautiful bike path nearby. I would happily stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others! Chris was always fast to respond and very thorough with all of my questions, which was also sincerely appreciated.
Some of our favorite spots during this stay that we would recommend: The Chicory Cafe, The Painted Lady Cafe, Rosa's Squeeze Inn, Karsten's Restaurant, and the Domaci Gallery.
Lake Huron 'Rock hounding' highly recommended. Six (6) bicycles of various styles provided for renter use on 10 mile bike path to and from Rogers City.
