We are delighted with this property and accommodations. Loved the off road drive that set the tone for being "in the woods." I'm glad I was in my Honda Pilot but my daughter negotiated the road in her Honda Prelude. The log cabin is extremely well constructed with the amenities that made "roughing it" not so rough! =) The cabin has heat-pump central heat and air so in the summer I imagine it would be not the hot box that plagues some rustic cabins. We turned down the heat and enjoyed the fireplace on our cool early spring nights. The cabin and the generous grounds are extremely clean - no clutter anywhere to spoil the experience. Just a charming and private setting!
We decided to eat in as the kitchen was so complete. But 10 minutes away is a funky diner called the Cedar Mountain Cafe. Perfect for a late breakfast or lunch and dinner late in the week and on the weekend. The drive to Brevard was 25 minutes but we chose to "stay put" as it was such a calming, peaceful place.
Dupont Forest gates were 5 minutes away as well as most other trailheads. A biker/hiker paradise. The kids played game after game of "extreme bocce ball" in the cabin clearings and spent endless hours viewing the trout in the stocked ponds. When we left the cabin, we enjoyed the waterfalls and other trails in Dupont Forest. We didn't have to load up and drive forever to have an outing.
We loved this cabin and is on our A-List of places to revisit and make more family memories with our grand-children!
The cabin was wonderfully comfortable. All we need was groceries. The quiet seclusion is what we wanted. And, still close to hiking, Mt biking and Brevard.. we would stay there again without hesitation.
We enjoyed our stay at the cablin. It was nice and clean and a true getaway for my wife and I. The cabin had everything for a home away from home. We like hinking and that there were so many close by. We plan to do it again and this time bring our kids with us.
This was our second stay in this adorable, spacious, secluded cabin tucked away in the woods in Cedar Mountain with a trout pond just outside the front porch. We spent early mornings rocking on the porch planning our adventures for day. Should we visit the waterfalls in DuPont State Forest or Pisgah National Forest, travel the Blue Ridge Parkway, go horseback riding, zip lining in Cashiers, tour the Biltmore and Biltmore Village, or simply explore the mountains right outside our back door. Our evenings were spent enjoying the wood burning fireplace and watching the deer romp just outside the windows. Everything you need is provided for you, including a fishing pole! All we needed to do was relax and enjoy! We've stayed during winter and fall and we're planning a summer stay next! We hope to bring other family members with us - after all, there's plenty of room in the upstairs loft!
The Gem in the Forest is a lovely, clean and well stocked cabin. We were very comfortable there for 7 nights. It is extremely private, with beautiful land surrounding the cabin. Easy and fast access to the trails and waterfalls in Dupont State Forest. It is about a 20 minute drive into Brevard from the cabin. The important thing to be aware of is the approach to the cabin does require a car with high clearance, and while not absolutely necessary, we used our 4WD to make the climb up the steep, rocky road. Had we not taken our truck, we wouldn't have been able to get there in my Prius. I think this should be a bit more clearly stated to prospective visitors.
We had a great time during our stay. Lots of hiking around the trails, fishing in the pond, hanging out on the porch, cooking in the grill, and a nice fire in the fireplace in the evening. What is really great about this place also is the closeness to Dupont State Forest. My wife and little girls loved it there and it was hard to leave. Very relaxing and everything you need is there. Really a great place, you wont be disappointed
