As soon as we topped the last hill and the cabin came into view, we knew we'd made the right choice. I felt like Little Red Riding Hood, but we never ran into any big, bad wolves! It was an extremely peaceful week beginning with beautiful, sunny weather and ending with a couple of days of beautiful, rainy weather. Sitting on the porch in one of the 4 big rocking chairs listening to the raindrops on the metal roof was so relaxing and the misty fog just added to the magic 'lost in the forest' feel. We left the cabin almost every day and even after a few steady showers and some heavy rainfall, we never had any problem with the gravel road (driving a low-to-the-ground sedan). The road is very well maintained. If you turn left at the bottom of the road, instead of right toward the paved road, the gravel road takes you 7 miles or so through beautiful scenery - gorges, lakes, and a dam.
As for the cabin itself, it has everything you need in every room, and a charcoal grill outside.
We loved the trails through the property and the trout pond. We don't fish, but we loved watching them swim around as we walked around the pond.
We plan to return with more groceries and less activities so we can spend more time just enjoying the cabin and the grounds.
Thanks for sharing your Gem in the Forest!!
Great launching spot for Dupont and surrounding area. Our 4 year old granddaughter certainly enjoyed her first trip to the area.
The photos didn't do this cabin and property justice. It's a quaint and cozy getaway, off the beaten path, and very comfortable and safe. We felt right at home!
We are delighted with this property and accommodations. Loved the off road drive that set the tone for being "in the woods." I'm glad I was in my Honda Pilot but my daughter negotiated the road in her Honda Prelude. The log cabin is extremely well constructed with the amenities that made "roughing it" not so rough! =) The cabin has heat-pump central heat and air so in the summer I imagine it would be not the hot box that plagues some rustic cabins. We turned down the heat and enjoyed the fireplace on our cool early spring nights. The cabin and the generous grounds are extremely clean - no clutter anywhere to spoil the experience. Just a charming and private setting!
We decided to eat in as the kitchen was so complete. But 10 minutes away is a funky diner called the Cedar Mountain Cafe. Perfect for a late breakfast or lunch and dinner late in the week and on the weekend. The drive to Brevard was 25 minutes but we chose to "stay put" as it was such a calming, peaceful place.
Dupont Forest gates were 5 minutes away as well as most other trailheads. A biker/hiker paradise. The kids played game after game of "extreme bocce ball" in the cabin clearings and spent endless hours viewing the trout in the stocked ponds. When we left the cabin, we enjoyed the waterfalls and other trails in Dupont Forest. We didn't have to load up and drive forever to have an outing.
We loved this cabin and is on our A-List of places to revisit and make more family memories with our grand-children!
The cabin was wonderfully comfortable. All we need was groceries. The quiet seclusion is what we wanted. And, still close to hiking, Mt biking and Brevard.. we would stay there again without hesitation.
We enjoyed our stay at the cablin. It was nice and clean and a true getaway for my wife and I. The cabin had everything for a home away from home. We like hinking and that there were so many close by. We plan to do it again and this time bring our kids with us.
