About Martin & Julia Copeman
Having refurbished our original sister Grade II Listed Thatched Cottage, Sticky End, in nearby Cottesmore & taken bookings since 1996, have constantly had excellent feedback from guests & repeat bookings. The same is true of our 'chocolate box' thatched cottage, Little Thatch in nearby Seaton, which we opened in 2013. And now Autumn Cottage completes the portfolio, providing Sticky End and Little Thatch with the perfect sister property!
Martin & Julia Copeman purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Martin & Julia Copeman chose Preston
Rutland is truly an unspoiled little gem of a county. Multum in Parvo', the apt motto of the County of Rutland translates from Latin as 'Much in Little'... the same is true of all three of our cottage, Autumn Cottage, Sticky End & Little Thatch.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have made all our thatched holiday cottages 'extensions of our own home', positioned at the high end of the holiday let market. Guests always comment very positively regarding how extremely well equipped & furnished they are......'more than just a holiday home'.

Raising the bar...
A delight to stay in, Autumn Cottage was, perhaps the best of the numerous holiday cottages we have stayed in. Located in its own attractive, well-tended grounds, it is a lovely old building full of character ( open beams, low doorways, steep staircase, central fireplace), which has been refurbished and decorated with style, taste and humour. The Copemans seem to have thought of everything a person could want or need while holidaying. From the warm personal greeting, to the detailed, most informative guest guidebook, to the care taken to make the cottage cosy, comfortable and immaculate, the Copemans were wonderful hosts who clearly care about their guests' holiday experience. We hope we will be able to return some day. C.and E. McCormick, Halifax, NS, Canada
Delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Autumn Cottage & many thanks for taking the time out to post such a great review. Glad you had a safe journey home to Canada. We hope that you may return one day too!

Perfect cottage, lovely setting
This is a beautiful cottage in a lovely quiet village. It is very well furnished and full of lovely accessories to make you feel at home. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The owners are really friendly and helpful. We were welcomed with homemade cake! Fresh milk, tea, coffee, biscuits all provided - even toiletries. This area is great and you will not run out of things to see and do.
The cottage is very well appointed and the owners have gone the extra mile to make the cottage cosy. Everything you could need in a holiday cottage was there. Very clean and well maintained. With lots of interesting extra things such as old books to peruse.
Preston Village is very quiet and we found lots to do in the surrounding area. Recommend visiting Oakham Castle, Richard III Museum in Leicester, Stamford and Uppingham also very nice.
Delighted that you enjoyed tour stay at Autumn Cottage and the week exploring the local area. Many thanks for posting a great review and we hope to be able to welcome you back to one of our Rutland thatched cottages before too long. Martin & Julia
Wow, what a lovely cottage, had everything.
We were so pleased that we chose Autumn Cottage to spend three weeks in Rutland. The cottage more than exceeded our expectations. It had everything we needed, beautiful decoration, great views, very convenient location for everywhere in Rutland, surrounding villages, and also Leicestershire. We found Julia and Martin very helpful and easy to deal with, really hope we have the chance to return, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family. Val and David, Brisbane, Asutralia

Our stunnung stay in Autumn Cottage!
Through the years we have stayed in many a lovely home all over Europe, particularly in Britain. We rate Autumn Cottage as certainly one of the best. Of course the county of Rutland and the quaint village of Preston are to a certain extent also responsible for this, but the house itself is in a league of its own. Well-furnished, very comfortable and in everything showing the owners' great sense of detail in making the guests happy.
Highly recommendable and we surely hope to return again in the not too far future!
Thank you for taking the time to post feedback & indeed for your very kind comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed your Christmas week stay at Autumn Cottage & we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

RUTLAND & SURROUNDING AREAS Preston is a charming & tranquil small village with many Grade II Listed properties. It is situated in the East Midlands county of Rutland, a small but beautiful and unsung area just waiting to be discovered (unless of course you are already familiar with its unique charm!). Nestling in Middle England, one hundred miles north of London, Rutland is bounded on the west and north by Leicestershire, northeast by Lincolnshire, and southeast by Northamptonshire. Ideal for couples and perfect for a romantic escape, this charming Grade II Listed thatched cottage has been lovingly restored and furnished to a very high standard to provide a warm and welcoming holiday or short break retreat. Autumn Cottage is located in the peaceful rural conservation village of Preston, in England's smallest county, Rutland. Autumn Cottage is an ideal base for exploring the region including the nearby busy market & impressive public school towns of Oakham and Uppingham, and is only 12 miles from historic Stamford (Sunday Times "Best Place to Live in Britain" 2013, filming for the 2005 movie Pride & Prejudice and TV's Middlemarch). Rutland is a truly unspoiled rural gem in the heart of Middle England. Rutland Water, along with the surrounding countryside and villages, provide a beautiful back drop for sailing, water sports, fishing, cycling, bird watching, golf and walking. Traditional country pubs offer excellent cuisine, stately homes such as Belvoir Castle, magnificent Burghley House (home of the famous Burghley Horse Trials and popular film set) and National Trust properties including Woolsthorpe Manor (Sir Issac Newton's Home) and Belton House at Grantham are within a short drive, whilst shopping tends to be "unique and antique" and a pleasurable world away from the shopping centre chains. Geoff Hamilton's legacy of his famous Barnsdale Gardens are close by, as are Easton Walled Gardens. The Stamford Shakespeare Festival (June-August)is held annually at Tolethorpe Hall where a picnic on the lawns, a stroll around the lawn, pond and flowerbeds and shrubberies all add to the magic of a visit to Rutland Open Air Theatre (6th June-26th August 2017 - A Midsummer Night's Dream ; Much Ado About Nothing ; Hobson's Choice). Rockingham Motor Speedway and Rockingham Castle lie just 8 minutes drive south. The Stunning Belvoir Castle stands splendidly in the Vale of Belvoir just 40 minutes drive to the north.
