Vineyard Chateau retreat, with exclusive use of pool, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms
- english, french
Here at French Vineyard Vacations we really appreciate all the careful planning that goes into the research and booking of a holiday and we hope this shows throughout your holiday experience with us. We aim to match your expectations and hopefully often exceed them to ensure your holiday includes lots of your favourite things to do ( even if that's simply relaxing by the pool enjoying the peace and quiet). In brief, we offer a unique blend of tempting and desirable holiday ingredients which can be individually adapted to suit all tastes. As yet, you won't find us with loads of reviews on trip advisor because this is our very first holiday season. Last year we followed our dream of owning a French vineyard and making our own wine (we'd already achieved this in the UK). After touring around France we believe we've found an idyllic location, just right for the perfect holiday. Not only is it situated within one of the world's finest wine regions, it's also surrounded with a really good balance of things to see and do. Wine Tours and Tastings (Degustations) Here at FVV we are very excited to announce we are very soon to become “Chateau Grande Etouble” because as from this year our vineyard will be re-producing it’s very own wine again. Ben is very happy to wander around our vineyard with you and chat about wine and its production. Please feel free to request a visit to a vineyard – local or further afield. We can either arrange a degustation for you or point you in the right direction for you to do this for yourself, whichever you prefer. All in all we're very excited and looking forward to hearing from you - everything is freshly decorated and equipped and waiting for you.
Gill purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2013
Why Gill chose Saint-Ciers-de-Canesse
We specialise in a more bespoke holiday experience, with luxury accommodation, located on our own vineyard with a cool, relaxing pool. Our guests can expect exclusive use of this pool throughout their stay. We love our typically French farmhouse because it is so special, on the inside as well as the outside. We've taken lots of care in all the rooms, in particular the large kitchen - to ensure it's fully equipped, comfortably and homely. Other rooms like the bathrooms and bedrooms have also been given a lot of thought and attention. Towels and bedding are of top quality - because you are worth it. Our aim is you find our holiday retreat is well worth leaving the comforts of your own home for. Even more appealing is the fact this holiday rental is conveniently located on the world famous wine trails of the majestic Bordeaux wine region and can include optional wine tasting, wine tours, good food and lots of other tempting, interesting things to do. Another thing we love about our place is it's location - there's lots of amenities on our doorstep and even more only a short drive away. Local Facilities The holiday accommodation is located within the small village of St Ciers de Canesse, however our closest amenities can be found in the nearby village of Berson (2 kms). Here you’ll find the artisan Boulangerie (Bakery) which is filled with the fresh aroma of warm, fresh baguettes and croissants for a typical French breakfast treat. There is also a boulangerie in the village of St Ciers de Canesse . The village of Berson also has a small supermarket, a butchers, a Tabac (which doubles up as a bar) and a doctors, dentist and pharmacy. Our holiday rental also enjoys the benefit of being close to some great local, artisan Markets and plenty of food supermarkets.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
We aim to create a finely blended and well balanced holiday experience that’s just right for you. Nestling within the peaceful and gently undulating hillsides of the Gironde Estuary, Aquitaine, South West of France, you'll discover a treasure of a holiday retreat which comfortably accommodates between 6 and 8 guests, depending on your groups dynamics. The perfect choice if you fancy getting away from your everyday life and restoring your get-up-and-go in a way that works for you. Whether you choose to relax by the pool and surround yourself with “soul food” or seize the moment and take part in one of the many activities in the surrounding area; we'd like to think our holiday accommodation includes all the right things to ensure your stay with us is really special and includes lots of enjoyment and good times. This area of France enjoys 2700 hours of sunshine per year, second only to the Cote d'Azur !

Lovely home in a vineyard with warm and charming owners
Our experience in France was pleasantly enhanced by Gill and Ben, the owners of this property. In fact, they were the highlight of our vacation. They personally greeted us when we arrived and gave us great ideas and help during our stay. They live on the property caring for their vineyard and winery as well as their guests. We had them over for dinner and learned about their lives and how they came to owning this property and winery, a very fascinating and warm couple. They reciprocated by giving us a tour and winetasting with great appetizers. We ended our stay by going with them on a boat cruise, with more wine, food and music. What a great time!
The house was fully furnished with everything we needed to enjoy our stay and cook some meals. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and quiet. The location was easy to find if you followed Gill's direction, and not GPS. The pool area was a bonus and we spent most evenings enjoying wine and appetizers by the pool.
The location was great for the Bordeaux area, Bordeaux was less than 30 minutes away. We toured from Cape Ferret thru Saint Emilion. But we were in the beautiful vineyard countryside and not in a city.
Hello to our wonderfully special US guests - first of our 2018 holiday season. Thank you so much for your kind and detailed review. It's so helpful for potential guests to know this type of info and that they can ask for our input on places to visit.
Thanks once again as well for the delicious birthday meal - it was a very kind thought and much appreciated after a long days work in the vineyard.
We have some lovely photographs and memories of your stay with us. We truly hope our paths will cross again in the future. You will always be very welcome here.
Fabulous from start to finish
This property has been lovingly restored to a really high standard by the very friendly owners Gill and Ben. The welcome breads, cheese and wines were greatly appreciated and quickly consumed! Everything you could possibly want is available, bikes, ping pong, petanque, badminton, lots of outside seating and loungers, as well as the lovely private pool. We have never stayed in such a well equipped property. The added bonus of the beautiful setting within the vineyard make this a fabulous place to escape and spend a wonderful holiday. We enjoyed touring the area and seeing different vineyards, but particularly enjoyed being shown round the vineyard we were actually staying in - We would love to visit again. Thank you for all your hard work in making our holiday so memorable.
Thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review. We really appreciate your very kind comments, it was a real pleasure to read how much you enjoyed your holiday here and the surrounding areas.
We'd love to welcome you back here a some time in the future and we wish you a wonderful summer for the rest of 2017.
Gill and Ben
From the moment we arrived Gill and Ben could not have been warmer or provided a better service. They live in the property next door and while they're keen to respect your privacy, we loved it when they occasionally popped round with a couple of cakes from the local baker, figs from their neighbour's fig tree, a bottle of their own vineyard wine (great with cheese!). They made our holiday really special.
The house itself is spacious and very well furnished. The photos don't show it but there's a choice of outdoor eating areas - in the sun or in the shade - although the huge kitchen is also a great place to entertain too if it gets cool in the evening. There's also a well stocked wine rack in the kitchen with an honesty box - nice to know you'll never run out of wine! The pool area is a great place to spend a few hours swimming or sitting in the sun overlooking Gill and Ben's vineyard. They've also built a shaded area by the pool with seats, a hammock and huge banana plant - a very relaxing spot.
This property is perfect for those looking for a relaxing break away from it all in a beautiful house with an exceptionally high level of service from its owners from the time of booking right through to the day you leave. Absolutely fantastic - thank you Gill and Ben, we'll remember our stay for years to come.
Hi Jeremy and Marion,
Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review of your holiday. We really appreciate your kind words and comments. Feedback is very important to us, we've noted all your comments and we'll be updating the website to show the outside eating spaces this year so thank you for feeding back.
We really enjoyed meeting you and your Mother and our chats over a glass of wine.
We have closed the gite now put on our "vigneron hats" to get ready to harvest this year's grapes and bottle and label up last year's wine. Thank you once again for your review and we wish you both a mild winter. Kindest regards Gill and Ben
Little peace of heaven in the vineyards🍇
La Grande Etouble is a little peace of heaven in the middle of vineyards. Ben and Gill are the most thoughtful, kind and discrete hosts. We had a charming wine tour & tasting with our family.
Everything is there to enjoy the holidays, badminton, tabletennis, petanque, the pool off course and different locations to have breakfast, lunch, aperitif or dinner. The plancha is ideal to grill fish, gamba’s, burgers and vegetables. The vine cellar(with honesty box)in the kitchen gives you an enormously privilaged feeling. And that is exactly the feeling we had during our stay, a sense of privilege. We had days we golden linings at La Grand Etouble. Thank you so much Ben and Gill. We wish you all the best and hope to come back soon!
It's great to hear from you, we really do appreciate the time you have taken to create your detailed review. We are so pleased you all enjoyed "your golden linings days".
Everyone is different and everyone has their own version of a successful and blissful holiday. It's great to know we matched your expectations and that you aim to come back. We're looking forward to seeing you all again very much.
Until the next time, Kindest regards Gill and Ben
