Why Mitzi chose Estes Park

Scenery and Serenity! Wildlife and wild flowers abound. If you want a get-a-way from the rat race and the noise of the city you have just found the perfect place - it doesn't get better than this! We are only minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park, yet only minutes from downtown Estes and all the shops and restaurants.

What makes this cabin unique

We are a legally licensed vacation rental home in Estes Park. We are legally required to collect and pay sales tax to the state of Colorado. However, since our property is located just outside the city limits of Estes Park, we are not required to collect and pay the Estes Park city sales tax, only the state of Colorado sales tax. This will save you money for a meal at one of many restaurants.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received this email on 9/9/15 from our guests who had just completed their stay with us at Moose Mountain Lodge:

Just wanted to say THANK YOU for an amazing place to stay for our family vacation in the Rocky Mountains. Everything was perfect! well except for the Aerial Tram ride during rain, wind and clouds....but it was still quite a view :) The sky opened up with sunshine for the rest of that day so we enjoyed another hike and drive thru the mountains. thank you for the hiking recommendations Mitzi ...bear lake was fun for all of us, I think it took 3 hours to get to Emerald Lake because we kept stopping to enjoy the sights and take pictures.

We all want to go back, so don't be surprised if you hear from us again about wanting to rent your beautiful, cozy, heavenly mountain home!

A Sweet Blessing!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our 14 year old neice, and I enjoyed a beautiful week at Moose Mountain Lodge, May 31st - June 5, 2011. We have booked vacation homes through VRBO several times and have always been pleased, but Moose Mountain was among the BEST we've rented!

Our top priority when booking was "the view", and we were not disappointed - it was spectacular! The first evening we sat in the hot-tub on the back deck and watched a glorious sunset over the snow-capped mountain range. As we were getting out of the hottub just after dark, my neice spotted an owl in the top of a pine tree, "welcoming" us to Moose Mountain. That was the first of our wildlife viewing for the week. The next morning, we were thrilled to wake up and look out the wall of windows to see the mountains and watch deer grazing in the yard.

This home was immaculately clean when we arrived and obviously very well maintained. It is very well appointed with everything we needed for cooking some meals, doing laundry, watching movies, playing games, and of course, the hottub, as I mentioned! The location was ideal for our needs. We loved being "out" enough to have a view, but also the convenience of being able to run into town within a matter of minutes for restaurants and shopping. Rocky Mountain National Park is just a short drive (maybe 20 minutes?) away.

Just the three of us had way more than enough room in this house! We could have chosen a smaller home, but the ammenities at Moose Mountain were just what we were looking for and we're so glad we chose it.

We checked out on Sunday morning and had a two and 1/2 day drive back to Ohio. The day after we got home, we had our security deposit back in the mail! That impressed us!

Thanks, Randy and Mitzi, for sharing your beautiful mountain retreat with us - it's surely a blessing too sweet to keep to yourselves!

Moose Mountain Lodge

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic trip staying at Moose Mountain Lodge. The cabin was perfect for our family of 5, which includes three children ages 6, 9, and 12. We loved being able to sit on the porch in the mornings and evenings and watch wildlife, which included deer, rabbits, and chipmunks. We did some elk in the neighborhood a few of the evenings. The views from the cabin are amazing. You can't beat a sunrise or sunset over the mountains while enjoying the cool mountain air. The cabin was well equipped with everything we could possibly need for cooking and grilling. The cabin is nicely located in a quiet neighborhood while at the same time only being about 10 minutes from town and Rocky Mountain National Park. We were able to get to the trail head early every morning for excellent hiking. We enjoyed getting donuts and cinnamon rolls several mornings from Donut Haus and had take out from Smokin' Daves, which was delicious. The owners were quick to respond to anything we could possibly need. We have already booked our stay for next summer. Perfect family vacation full of adventure and the great outdoors!

The cabin was beautiful and the owners have really went out of their way to make your stay great.

This was a family vacation and the cabin was plenty big enough to accommodate us all. With a bathroom on all 3 floors there was never a problem with showering to go out for the day. The kitchen was very well equipped .Upon our arrival it was clean and ready to be enjoyed, we all loved the decorations. We had a little trouble with the hot tub jets but we enjoyed it anyway. Would love to be able to come back for a stay someday. I miss waking up and sitting on the porch and enjoying the mountains and the wildlife.i would recommend this cabin 100%.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind remarks. Wish we had known about the hot tub jets during your stay. Our current guests sent an email today about the same issue. We have contacted a repair technician this afternoon (7/20/17) to address the problem. Thank you, again. Update, 8/6/17: The hot tub is finally repaired after 6 service calls and replacing every major part on it. This was a very frustrating process. And the hot tub is only 4 years old. Lightning must have been a culprit.

Mountain Log Home with Stunning Views

  • 5 of 5

Moose Mountain Lodge is a fantastic location for both day hikes in RMNP and evenings downtown. It is even closer to local hiking spots including Lily Mountain and Kruger Rock. The lodge has all necessary vacation amenities including hot tub, grill, and 2 decks! My favorite part about the lodge are the views, which can be enjoyed from the inside, with an entire wall of windows, or from either deck. The neighborhood is quiet and we spotted more wildlife here than in the national park! Definitely had a comfortable and enjoyable stay!

Perfect Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 took our first trip to Colorado for vacation & this home was perfect! We did a lot of hiking & it was so nice to come back & cook dinner & enjoy family time. We enjoyed putting a puzzle together along with the fireplace & the amazing views. The owners left us a bottle of wine & it was greatly appreciated. We also had a friendly competition at Ping-Pong! The home is nice, very clean & spacious & the views cannot be beat. It has everything you need! We loved seeing the mule deer feeding & bedding down in the yard along with a few chipmunks. There are a few homes around but the way it is situated gives you a lot of privacy. The weather in May was perfect & the day before we left it started to snow & was such a beautiful sight that we did not want to leave! The owners are so nice & easy to reach in case of any questions. Loved our stay & will not hesitate to come back!!
