About Andrea Wooten and Steve Ray
Originally from Texas (Andrea) and California (Steve), we consider ourselves 'refugees' from the Washington, DC suburbs, where we lived and worked for 18 years. We first visited Rappahannock County in 2002 for a retreat, and immediately fell in love with the Blue Ridge and all the area has to offer. After several years of looking at real estate, we bought the historic 130 acre county 'Poor Farm' in 2002 and began an extensive remodeling of the old farm house and barn. We also added ponds, roads, a dock, fencing, an orchard, extensive flower and vegetable gardens, and animals (mules, horses, goats, chickens, dogs, barn cats, guineas, ducks and cattle). In 2010, we moved to our new home on the farm--a Virginia farmhouse with a big wrap around porch. And in 2012, we restored the old chicken coop and added chickens to our little menagerie. We also completed work on a new barn that includes a new 'Barn Loft' to accommodate additional visitors. A total renovation of the only standing "Poor House" was completed in June 2019, and may prove to be our most popular property. Our farm is our little slice of heaven, and we feel blessed to share it with those who stay with us!

Why Andrea Wooten and Steve Ray chose Sperryville
The Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia are one of the most beautiful places on earth to us! And Rappahannock County embodies values that we hold dear: close friends, strong sense of community, amazing commitment to conservation and stewardship of the earth, and a rural lifestyle that allows us stay in touch with ourselves and live our priorities. The area also has a vibrant arts community, world class hiking, excellent restaurants and inns, including the Inn at Little Washington, interesting shops, art galleries, and antique stores, and holistic medicine options. It is also close to Washington, DC and Charlottesville, Virginia, and a little over an hour to both Dulles and Washington Reagan airports. We could not think of a more ideal place to live and work!

Awesome Weekend Getaway
This property was fantastic. Was an amazing break from the city life. Peaceful for adults and fun for the kids. Everyone had a wonderful time. We substituted electronics and phones for farm animals, hiking, and card games. I recommend this property to anyone who needs a 'break'. Cute town just a few miles away with quaint little shops and cafes as well as a short drive to hiking trails and other scenery. The hosts were great and I couldn't have had a better time. Thanks again!!
Our farm is ideal for hikers, located only 10 minutes from the entrance to Shenandoah National Forest and Skyline Drive and a few minutes more to the base of Old Rag. The local area offers a variety of activities from antiquing and shopping at local art galleries to award winning wineries, breweries, and a whisky distillery.
Foodies often come to experience the Michelin award winning Inn at Little Washington or to dine at the newly acclaimed Three Blacksmiths. In addition to these upscale restaurants, the area offers a variety of other dining options from pizzerias to fun taverns and bakeries. Coffee lovers will want to make a stop at Central Coffee Roasters and you won't want to leave without fresh vegetables, fruits, and meats from local growers. Luray Caverns, less than 30 minutes away, is a popular destination, and we are ideally situated for day trips to Charlottesville and the greater DC area.
