Nestled between Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Bastide St Pierre lies in a part of the world as much famed for its beauty, tranquility and verve as for its wine, cuisine and rolling vineyards. This elegant house built in 1860 in local French limestone has been lovingly renovated & restored (2014) over the last 2 years keeping both it's original Gironde charm with added modern convenience. The main bedroom has an Emperor size bed with large ensuite bathroom with 3 King size beds in an additional 3 bedrooms & 2 double beds in the fifth bedroom. The interior has a modern 65 sq metre kitchen that should accommodate the most demanding gourmet chef. All the rooms are of grand proportions so there is a wonderful sense of space that retains the elegance & grandeur of the vineyard owners who built the house during the reign of Napoleon III. The area is surrounded by the bustling local markets and antique fairs; to relaxing, with a glass of local premier grand cru in hand, on a local café terrace; to experiencing the history and wonder of the Unesco World heritage sites of Saint Emilion which is just over 10 minutes away driving through the some of the worlds greatest vineyards, the exciting city of Bordeaux just 45 minutes away by car. You are 10 minutes away from the beautiful market town of Libourne where you should visit on one of 3 market days when you will experience the idyllic charm of an authentic French food market. Farther a field you have the Unesco world heritage town of Cognac (1 hour 15 minute drive) & towards the coast you have the fascinating town of the Archachon & the famed Dune de Pyla (again 1 hour 15 minute drive). You are 10 minutes drive from some of the worlds most famous Chateaus such as Chateau Petrus & Cheval Blanc. For wine lovers who wish to travel farther a field the Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive. In addition you border the Dordogne & are 45 minutes from Perigeaux & Bergerac with Sarlat de la Canada being 1 hour 15 minutes away. If you love relaxing, the best food & wine there are a lifetime of choices available. Lastly make sure there's room in your bags to take a few bottles back !

I grew up in Nice on the Cote D'Azur before moving to the United States , I have travelled extensively having lived in South America & Switzerland. I currently call home London but throughout my travels I was always drawn back to the beauty of the vineyards of St Emilion & the grace of the city of Bordeaux.
Sonia purchased this Farmhouse in 2012
Why Sonia chose Saint-Denis-de-Pile
I spent years looking for the right property in the Gironde which would exude the charm & character of the area combined with the perfect location. I knew we would fully renovate the property with the principle being to add modern comforts while retaining the historical character of building.

Beautiful house, great size garden and the perfect pool
The house is fabulous and has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The rooms are divine and look like they belong in an interiors magazine. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need. The new pool is a perfect size and was a lovely temperature and well looked after throughout our stay.
The house is a short drive (definitely need a car) to Bakery (5mins), Intermarche, Pharmacy, Vet, Doctor (8/10mins) and so many great places to visit (St. Emilion, Libourne (15/20 mins) and then slightly further afield Bordeaux and Bergerac) and there are lovely walks and cycles around the vineyards close by.
What made this holiday extra special and completely stress-free are the amazing owners Sonia and Saul. From the moment we booked the house Sonia was very generous with her time, answering all our questions and providing so much wonderful information about the area, we planned pretty much our whole holiday on her wonderful suggestions. Also, the incredibly detailed house manual meant we didn't have to spend the first few days trying to figure everything out!
I would recommend this house to anyone - a group of friends, families with older kids, families with younger kids, families with grandparents (handy bedroom ensuite on the ground floor) or if you are looking for a romantic escape or even going on your own as you are surrounded by lovely neighbours and would feel safe.
Elegant property which showcases it's uniqueness with style
As previous reviews mention, no photograph prepares you for the spacious, superbly styled home that is presented on arrival.
No detail has been overlooked, from the sumptious bed linen, towels and bathroom accessories to the kitchen, which is equipped for any occasion.
We stayed a week in this property while celebrating our son's wedding nearby. We had 5 couples, enjoyed many evenings by the patio, swimming in the pool, cooking for our new in-laws.
We did little travelling as the property is so beautiful, we relaxed most evenings with our friends.
We have travelled considerably over the years, stayed in great hotels, holiday homes, apartments, never have we seen such quality and thoughtfulness in a home.
For sure it feels that you are guests in someone's home, a rare experience.
Sonia was so attentive, we exchanged many emails, history of the house, it's renovation, pictures from our family wedding. . . she took a genuine interest in every aspect of our stay.
Thank you for providing a wonderful home from which we've taken marvellous memories that we'll treasure forever.
An exceptional property and host, recommend it unreservedly.
Tranquil and Relaxing!
An amazing home away from home!
Truly mesmerising nights watching stars and relaxed evenings in the pool.
The home is just magnificent and feels really private from rest of the world.
Thank you Sonia and Saul for this amazing time!
Staying at your home in St Denis De Pile was just like hugging a long lost friend felt good - Merci! xx
I rarely write reviews but I felt this home deserved my praise.
Let me start by saying that unlike most things in life this house significantly surpassed expectations & as mentioned by other reviewers it is better than even the pictures reflect.
The house gives you an elegant French experience with a no expense spared renovation that provides all the modern conveniences. The attention to details is reflected down to even the small details such as the quality of the bed linens & tableware in the house.
The kitchen is exceptionally charming & opens out on to the garden. It is sizable enough for significant family gatherings & is very well fitted with whatever could be needed. The bedrooms are beautiful with the main bedroom being extremely impressive. The master bathroom is magazine worthy & I would not want to estimate what was spent to have achieved that level of finish.
The house is very clean & has a freshness as you walk through the door.
My favourite part of the property was outside. The pool is just simply beautiful & sits in front of the kitchen patio. It is heated & is great to use in the evening under the sparkling stars of Aquitaine. In the corner of the garden the owners have rebuilt this large pavilion using the original French limestone with large fireplaces, it is the perfectly captures the romance of the area & is wonderful to enjoy candlelit evening dinners under the stars & chandelier.
The house is in perfect proximity to St Emilion with the drive through the rolling vineyards being as enjoyable as the town itself.
I very much recommended this home if you are looking for the ideal to meet reality.
Luxury Character House
Our stay at Bastide St Pierre was wonderful. The property had such amazing character and history but yet had all the luxury amenities you could want! It was situated in a perfect location to explore the beautiful area of Aquitaine. We particularly love St Emilion and had an incredible meal at Logis de la Cadène. We went back twice it was so good! I cannot stress how helpful the owners of Bastide St Pierre were, they were always at the end of the phone to help if we had any queries or issues. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at this beautiful property.
Beautifully restored French Bastide
We had high expectations after looking extensively for a holiday rental in France and we were not disappointed! We loved the house and all the furnishings- the master suite is delightful, the kitchen is a lovely space, more than big enough for the ten of us and the pool and outside dining area (the pavilion with chandelier) were great fun, we spent every evening here enjoying the local wine while the kids enjoyed the heated pool - it was perfect!
We really enjoyed a trip to St Emillion, Bordeaux and lunch at Le Clos Mirande. We also stumbled across a fantastic outdoor restaurant in St Denis de Pile called La Lluna for a fantastic Steak & Frites in the evening sun with a glass of Rose whilst the kids played rounders! We also made use of the bikes at the house to get bread and croissants in the morning from the local boulangerie. We highly recommend this property- Sonia will respond instantly and also sends a comprehensive guide to the area and her home before arrival. We loved it!
