Nestled between Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Bastide St Pierre lies in a part of the world as much famed for its beauty, tranquility and verve as for its wine, cuisine and rolling vineyards.This elegant house built in 1860 in local French limestone has been lovingly renovated & restored (2014) over the last 2 years keeping both it's original Gironde charm with added modern convenience. The main bedroom has an Emperor size bed with large ensuite bathroom with 3 King size beds in an additional 3 bedrooms & 2 double beds in the fifth bedroom. The interior has a modern 65 sq metre kitchen that should accommodate the most demanding gourmet chef. All the rooms are of grand proportions so there is a wonderful sense of space that retains the elegance & grandeur of the vineyard owners who built the house during the reign of Napoleon III. The area is surrounded by the bustling local markets and antique fairs; to relaxing, with a glass of local premier grand cru in hand, on a local café terrace; to experiencing the history and wonder of the Unesco World heritage sites of Saint Emilion which is just over 10 minutes away driving through the some of the worlds greatest vineyards, the exciting city of Bordeaux just 45 minutes away by car. You are 10 minutes away from the beautiful market town of Libourne where you should visit on one of 3 market days when you will experience the idyllic charm of an authentic French food market. Farther a field you have the Unesco world heritage town of Cognac (1 hour 15 minute drive) & towards the coast you have the fascinating town of the Archachon & the famed Dune de Pyla (again 1 hour 15 minute drive). You are 10 minutes drive from some of the worlds most famous Chateaus such as Chateau Petrus & Cheval Blanc. For wine lovers who wish to travel farther a field the Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive. In addition you border the Dordogne & are 45 minutes from Perigeaux & Bergerac with Sarlat de la Canada being 1 hour 15 minutes away. If you love relaxing, the best food & wine there are a lifetime of choices available. Lastly make sure there's room in your bags to take a few bottles back !

I grew up in Nice on the Cote D'Azur before moving to the United States , I have travelled extensively having lived in South America & Switzerland. I currently call home London but throughout my travels I was always drawn back to the beauty of the vineyards of St Emilion & the grace of the city of Bordeaux.

I spent years looking for the right property in the Gironde which would exude the charm & character of the area combined with the perfect location.

I knew we would fully renovate the property with the principle being to add modern comforts while retaining the historical character of building.

Exceeded our expectations by a mile!

The 12 days we spent at Sonia and Saul's beautiful home in Sept & Oct were amazing. The property is a dream property and the owners have obviously put a lot of thought, planning and love into their restoration of this venerable farmhouse. They saved the 19th century character of the farmhouse and made it luxurious by 21st century standards. The kitchen served us so well and the summer house in the back was a perfect place for an early evening barbecue dinner, chandelier and all. We spent hours in the back yard with a glass of wine and snacks from the local markets in a second wonderful outdoor patio setting. The pictures on the listing are all spot on. The house is so well equipped and wants for nothing to prepare wonderful meals or simply enjoy the fabulous local wines with equally wonderful charcuterie on the patio. The location is superior allowing easy access by rental car to the city of Bordeaux, the Medoc, and of course the fascinating village of St. Emilion. With a rental car it was an easy day trip drive also to the fascinating prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux. So much to do and so little time... but we spent as much time as we could in this house because it is spacious, has all the creature comforts one could possibly need and is, in a word... comfortable. We had 6 people there at once but it could easily comfortably accommodate 8-10 guests. Sonia was available for any questions and provided great written information on the local area to optimize our time. For those who have the time and/or the need, the wi-fi is very good as well. Frankly we had too much else to do so didn't spend much time on devices. We had good friends who referred us to this property and we intend to do the same with others. Try it and you will love it!!

Wonderful

A group of six of us have just had a week at the villa and it was amazing. Everything you'd possibly needed was there and Sonia was always on email to advise or help out. The villa was just beautiful and an easy drive to St Emilion and the Bordeaux region. We would thoroughly recommend it and hopefully one day we may get back.

Beautiful 5* luxury stay!

Our stay at this absolutely stunning French farmhouse was perfection! The house is beyond anything we imagined and the pictures don't do it's beauty enough justice. Sonia and Saul have restored the property so beautifully ensuring they kept the character of the property and original features and still giving it a luxury 5* feel.

Although we enjoyed going out and exploring this fantastic part of France our most favourite times we're sitting in the pavilion with a home cooked meal and bottle of local wine gazing at a sky full of stars!

The recommendations for places to visit were fantastic and wouldn't have found them without Sonia and Saul's expert advice. The guide they have created so lovingly for guests is full of helpful tips to make your holiday as enjoyable and as stress free as possible.

We have had a absolutely amazing holiday and are very much looking forward to returning in the future.

Incredible!

Look no further! This property is fabulous! A spacious old French chateau has been tastefully transformed into a comfortable accommodation. We woke up to the sounds of birds and roosters, enjoyed fresh croissants from the corner bakery and visited nearby wineries. Owner Sonia's recommendations for local restaurants were most helpful, and we enjoyed several unique French meals in bucolic spots. We were a group of seven friends. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thank you again, Sonia, for making it possible!

Stunning property sets the stage for an unforgettable vacation

We were absolutely blown away by this property! The location is perfect for a quintessential french vacation with vineyards, bakeries, medieval towns, and world class dining all within a 15 minute drive. The house has been carefully renovated with no expense spared on comfort, function or esthetics. We loved cooking in the large kitchen and brought our meals outside to the one of a kind patio area (that was once the farm managers house) whenever the weather allowed.

Sonia was a very attentive and thoughtful host and ensured we had everything we needed. The guidebook and GPS were very helpful in planning our outings. We were 4 adults with 4 young children and the house and yard suited our needs perfectly.

We have stayed in many vacation rentals over the years but this one has just set a new standard I'm not sure we will see again! We are already daydreaming about when we can return!

Outstanding Experience!

We are a family group of eight adults and we found this lovingly reconstructed bastide near St. Emilion perfect in every way. The building has been renovated beautifully reflecting its historical roots and incorporating modern creature comforts. From the huge, superbly equipped kitchen to the large comfortable bedrooms, no detail has been overlooked. The property is very large and private and includes among many wonderfull details an artfully rebuilt ruin equipped with some easy chairs, a dining table and chairs allowing for wonderfull al fresco dining. We enjoyed this space often.

As a group, we have rented many large villas throughout Europe and each one was excellent in their own ways. Despite this long history of staying at great properties I can safely say that this bastide and the care and level of service provided by the owner, Sonia, provided us an unparalleled experience.

In short, I recommend this property very, very highly. At twice the price we paid it would still be a bargain.
